I think the reason your 800T was over exposed is that the camera only reads DX code up to 400iso so it immediately defaults to iso 100 when it doesn’t recognise the coding. With regards to the flash if you hold it the camera seems to forget you’re pressing it after a while. I found if you treat it like a double shutter (pressing the flash then immediately take you’re shot) the flash will be suppressed. Great camera, I love mine.
