    Do any of you native Seattleites remember the sign by Boeings that said " Last one leaving Seattle,turn out the lights." ?

    • @curbozerboomer1773
      @curbozerboomer1773 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes..that was around 1970, when Boeing cut around 30,000 jobs--a huge blow to the local economy..this was before our hero, Bill Gates, invented Microsoft!

    • @leekoss7083
      @leekoss7083 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      That was when 33,000 or so Boeing employees lost their jobs overnight when Congress pulled the plug on research for a US supersonic transport jet-1970 or 1971. My dad, an engineer, was transferred from Seattle to the Washington DC office of Boeing in the summer of 1967. He was one of these workers.
      It was a challenging time for our family.
      I loved growing up in Seattle 1958-1967. Gratefully I’ve been back twice.
      It’s time to go back-maybe Summer, 2024.
      We grew to love the East Coast, Virginia and Delaware - but Seattle was special for sure.
      ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤

      You are totally correct. I remember Seattle’s beaches as littered with kelp and with very cold water.
      One time my mom, an RN, took my sisters and me swimming in the Sound near a water treatment plant. She said that this was where the Sound was cleanest.
      It was a small sandy beach. ❤❤🎉🎉🎉

    So in 1950's Washington, citizens could play with the wild bear cubs. That's pretty cool. All kidding aside, it would have been nice had there been a shout-out to the Native fisherman. There's nothing like the fresh seafood from the Reservation. I remember often getting a wide variety of it amazingly cheap in the 80's.
