Kev Mac this interview of the legend Bird 1 is one of the best! Very distinguished and well spoken individual who had respect in LA, no matter what the Color of your skin or language spoken. His book I have to buy.
In 1962 bird of Slausons, Already a legend, I was 7 years old living in Pueblo Projects, all I ever heard was Slausons village and Bird of Slausons for 61 years I have respected my brother, Happy new years sir....
To live your life, to walk your walk and talk your talk and stay alive up to 80 years and beyond to tell your story and be respected the whole time as a real one is a blessing. May peace be with you.
Hey, on the real, Bird got to be about 80 years old!! That makes this interview even more special!! Shout out Kev Mac for blessin us with this. Much respect Bird 1!!
Gabby Baeza and Snuffy were founding members of the M in DVI in 1957. Phillip Black Segura went on to become a federal commissioner for the M in the BOP.
Thunderbird!!!!!! when I get old like Bird this is how ima dress!! damn he got 15 kids and 40 grandkids!!!???? Ok I wanna dress like bird when I get old but I dont want all those kids!!
I think Bird might have his years mixed up because Florence and surrounding areas were like 90 % white in the 50s and not sure if any Latinos were over there at that time
@Andre-cl2qt Incorrect! Bird definitely has it right. As a matter of fact, there were more Latino/Mexican families on the block in the Florence area than there was when I grew up there in the 1960s and 70s. By that time, most of the Mexicans/Chicanos were moving eastward of Hooper Avenue. The area around Florence was predominantly white, but the Mexicans were there along with a few Black families. Before my family moved to the block in the Florence neighborhood, there was only one black family that had been there since the 1940s. At that time, I believe that there were at least three Mexican families on that particular block. The other side of my family moved onto that block in 1951. That side of my family originally lived further north off of Hooper Avenue (The 40s) at least since the early 1920s. That was 43rd & and Ascot, to be exact. A few chapters could be written just on this particular topic. But no one wants to read that much in the comments section. I will, though, leave this bit of valuable information. The name is Manuel Nieto. This is a Black Latino man who was from the 1700s that was sent to settle the lands of Southern California. Feel free to do the research.
If you aren't from the east side of South L.A. or the vicinity...you don't have anything to say....he grew up in a diverse community.....and he was cool with who was cool with him....the gangs in LA were always mixed one way or another...so if you arent from L.A. stay out of it.....from Temple street in downtown L.A. all the way to Compton there was diversity...Blacks in Mexican gangs...Latinos in Black gangs....Asian hanging out with Black and Latinos...Whites in Black and Brown gangs...this generation is the most racist...you the world in the palm of your hands (ie: internet, etc) and yet you still haven't been able to achieve what previous generations have....L.A. has one of the most diverse populations in the world and we navigate it daily.....The only ones with the problem are idiots who don't know how to get along with other ethnicities and that is why he said he was more than a "mayate"...he turned it around on them and said, "mayate mas". my father has a library of at least 1000 books on African diaspora topics, Latino, Native American and other history topics....My father didn't lust after anyone...it was mutual....I have even witnessed women of other races check out my father back in the days while we were walking down the street. and whomever thinks he only liked Latinas...you are wrong..the majority of his kids are by Black women, myself included...only 4 are by other races (Latino and Asian).
Anyone ever talk to a Latina or white girl, who got kids by a Black man? Ask them how some of their men view them in many cases. Like they're dirty or no good once they find out about the Black kids. Is it absolute? No But if they're truthful many have experienced it.
The Second "blackie" Bird mentions has to be Philip Segura aka Blackie who is Mexican Mafia. The time period would match up. Very likely related to the First "Black/Blackie" he mentioned.
I remember watching Mundo’s (defector of the EME✋🏿) channel where he mentions an individual who was half black that was part of the early early generations of the Mafia✋🏿, wonder if that’s the dude you or him mentioned.
@bornsupreme2304 I had mentioned Leo DeCoud from the Ochentas. Mundo mentioned "Cheneno" Jordan. So that's when I Brought up Leo. I'm surprised Bird didn't mention Leo DeCoud, since he knew Leo and Brought up the Ochentas.
He only wrote "mayate mas" one or two time and others saw it...he didn't go around writing "mayate mas" all over the place...you people take things out of context...and when I say "you people" I am talking about you people in this generation or you people who are not from L.A. or are late to the show
Bird is the Wilt Chamberlain of KMV
