@@Rex1987 hey man im playing these days. Download this mod IAAM 3.2 What the mod has ? I can tell you, first it brings some new needs to the people, you have new production chains, like potatoe liquor, you have tons of new ornaments and beautifications, you have new ships, a new monument for the orient, new buildings for both orient and occident, many Quest bugs where fixed, you can make a venetian civilization, you can change how some buildings look, you can make them look theyre made of wood or stone or make them covered in Snow. Some attainments were changed, also farm layouts. And the best thing is, the enemy ai was improved 1000x they are more active, more agressive, they actually build more, make troops and all. But bear in mind, just like the normal game without the mod, they still give up 8/12h later in the game, you know, they stop doing everything. Ive read that it only happens with easy and medium ai, but, im on a game, and ive defeated kardinal, and now i have still Helena and Marie and they stopped building One hour ago. But before them Lucius stopped building first. Maybe because Helena has tons of islands and he got behind idk. Im gona try a new game with 3 hardest ai to see if they do really give up still. Aside from that you still got a lot of new things, even music. Try it 😎 i can help you if you have any doubts on how to install and etc
I just started playing this game last month, in April 2023, because I got it for free somewhere down the line, and I also thought it was probably a good one to start off with, because it's not too old, and I wanted to at least play one of the older ones before jumping into 1800, which I was more interested in. - I got hooked, to say the least, cause when there's a resource-management and building game that is good, I will keep coming back. - I do have some criticisms, though... One of the more critical things being the fact that things aren't explained well enough. Although, then I did probably play the wrong mode first, which I think was the Campaign (which I chose simply because it's at the top in the main menu), in which they expect you to do a lot of things very quickly. But because it was going from chapter to chapter, and it went from simpler to more complex stuff, I thought it was basically the tutorial. However, in the Scenarios mode, you actually get more explanation with little information-panes that pop up when something new is introduced. - So it totally screwed me over and I didn't know a lot of the things, such as "passive trade", which is probably why I couldn't get through the last chapter in even 4 tries. Other than that, it's smaller things. Like the notifications, as the AI players keep yapping on about things, especially when you move to different locations or they come to trade with you. The goal basically becomes to get them to shut up, as it's so repetitive. Similarly for whenever buildings stop working, which is just hard to balance, as the solution often isn't that simple. And the norias for water... you just get spammed with the messages that they're about to run out or have run out, even when using the large ones, because you end up with so many of them, even when placing them efficiently. - Speaking of moving around, it does become exhausting jumping back and forth between locations, trying to juggle everything, PLUS quests in between. I know that's the challenge, but it's a bit much in that it becomes annoying. That said, eventually things calm down and it feels like it pays off in a way. It's really a brain-straining kind of game in that sense, which... I enjoy, I need that stimulation once in a while, but it also starts feeling like "work", and it's not something you play to really relax after actual work or something like that (unless you are further into the game where things are set up and you have little to worry about), more when you're rested and clear and up for a challenge.
I agree land invasions and battles should come back. In 1800, you just attack the enemy port and poof, you win the island. Not enjoyable at all. Especially once you get lots of ships.
i so agree with you, after all this is the era of industry, they could like put in some victorian era troops and ww1 era troops (they did put in ironclad/dreadnought for navy)
I didn't really like land combat in 1404. It was slow, messy, and the AI seemed to have an endless supply of goods. So a war of attrition seemed ineffective.
A few tipps and a glitch ( your choice if you want to use it) You can shrink in the upgrading of the houses in the market If you place multiple norias on a farm you need less fields The glitch: if you have an island item you can duplicate it by click spamming it to the island slots
Holy cow ten years!? Used to love Anno 1404. The newer ones just hadn't reached the same level I think. Looking forward to Anno 1800 as it looks promising at least for now ^^
I recently bought 1404 with venice ofc on steam as an old veteran and started of with the scenario "karge küste" something like "arid coast" I think you have almost no fertility and have to build a cathedral as an endgoal it's just really amazing how it's totally possible to get enough wares by trade taxes and trade in general in this game aaand this is ultimately what made me realize what the new anno games are lacking: custom missions with unique maps and/or circumstances I mean sure the main game is what's best about the games but these additional challenges not only were really interesting, they also helped you learn different mechanics of the game and made you use them (like trade taxes I would've never used much otherwise) also the unlockable titles, portraits etc. were much more engaging than what 1800 offers (again that's not what makes the games good but to me it's a major step-back)
@@shanaqbaimuru353 history includes venice yes the difference is it's updated for modern systems, WQHD / 4K resolution and more ram utilization in gold edition it was common that the game crashed with too big population/ship count etc. because it ran out of memory even if you had 8gb or more if you already own the gold edition you don't "have" to get history, especially if you're not building massive populations etc. I personally grabbed the whole collection to replay the older titles at a sale
Oh yes! 1404 is one of my favourite games, glad you've now played it :D Personally I found the ground combat tedious but you can always do a naval blockade of the enemies main island and cut off his supply of luxury goods. Then you can watch the population revolt and burn the island for you >:D

There was a Anno 1404 version for the Nintendo DS called Anno: create a new world. I loved playing that. Yes it was more simplistic and limmited than the PC version... but what did you expect from a DS game. The key gameplay was pretty much the same, and it had its own campaign storyline. Pretty enjoyable and highely recommend buying it just to have something fun to play while traveling!
It was one of my first games ever and my entry into the anno universe. I loved it so much but than my sister accidentally threw it (she was hiding the nintendo case with a few games in the garbage can to play in the night (an illegal thing), sadly it never came back out)
I'd love to see you take a look at the later games and see how they compare to 1800 too. While the games before 1404 were mostly evolutionary, 2070 had a few obvious departures and 2205 often felt radically different. How does the multiple map feature of 1800 compare to the multiple map feature of 2205?
I always imagined in 1404 that people lived in those farms that they worked in, makes sense to me since it´s how it pretty much worked in the old days. I grew up in such a farm after the Salazar period in Portugal, all we had was a small store with various goods which provided everything to various farms around. I learned how to read and write in that farm as well as a kid, it wasn´t until I came to Denmark as an 11 year old that I started attending school. We are talking about the late 1970s here :), things have changed a lot in Portugal since then.
@@ToDie4r The grass is always greener on the other side, in this case quite literally. But you underestimate the boredom that comes with the location. Especially when children grow into youth.
There's a chance they'll add it later in an expansion. I think it might be too much for the initial release. It looked cool enough in the beta though :)

Yeah going back to it I couldn't play with the almost top down mode by default. Pressing "End" after you zoom in will keep the isometric view at all distances

Scrolled through and I didn’t see anyone that mentioned the ACTUAL ORIGIN GAME of Anno 1701. Made by Sunflowers which was later bought by Ubi....by far my favorite but was very excited to see 1800 come out and “rollback” to a finer age!!!! Great vid sir!
No, I am sorry but that is not right. I am assuming you are pretty young, because the first Anno I played in Germany (the OG version) was "Anno 1602", give it a look because it is the origin of this series.
denizo Actually I’m kind of on the older side, but I was looking and did see that the release was quite a few tears earlier that 1701. Apparently here in the states there was a delayed release and they were very pleased with the sale of approx 200,000 total by year 2002. It didn’t get much traction until about 2006 about the time that 1701 was making an amazing launch which broke many sales records. I think that may be why I was so off with my comment. I really appreciate the correction as it got me to dive into and learn some more of the background behind one of my favorite games!!! Leave it to Germany to make something so fantastic!!! (Said by someone whose name is supposed to have umlauts😁!!)
I must say I missed more comparison to the new title. I know 1404 by heart (thanks for reviewing it) but did not hear many comparisons to the new one and what I can expect.
If you have the time, check my Anno 1800 video, this video kind of assumes you’ve seen it already, which is my fault. Sometimes I forget I’m not always talking to just my subs or that my subs dont watch every video.
Its kinda odd in anno 1404 that you dont need villagers to work the fields on your resource islands, its cool they changed that in 1800. i never really liked that system.
Your voice is much easier on the ears than a lot of the other channels that reviewed Anno 1800. I suspect you didn't have anything to do with it, but much appreciated nonetheless.
I started with 1701 when i was 7 , got 2070 with 10 , 1404 with 12 , 2205 with 13 and now 1800 with 16 and somewhere between also 1503. I just cant decide which one is the best because the series haunts me through over half my life. If its the nostalgia with 1701 or the very cool production chains of 2070 or the objectivly best one 1800. I never really like 1400 that much because it overlaps parts with 1701 and 2070 which i both played before but no doubt that its a good game
As a new Anno-player (how have I not heard of it before being an avid Civ and AoE player?!) I found this video so reassuring! I didnt feel comfortable spending 80 euros on Anno 1800 since it was a game I hadnt heard of, so I got 1404 +Venice from Steam for 15 euros, but kept thinking how I wish I had 1800 instead! This video made me realize I bought a real gem and I don't feel bummed that I didn't get the expensive 1800 first!
Hey, check out the Venice Addon and reconsider, it the Multiplayer Aspect of 1800 lives up to past standards. I just love to gather a friend and play ANNO together with him as one Player. It is the one thing ANNO 1800 definitively lacks.
You can totally play this game without quests and even without other AI players, by fiddling with the settings when you set up the game. You can also play without corsairs. It takes longer to build up honor points, but you can still get honor by trading with the Lord and with the Vizier, and by upgrading your population. I like that you can play without battles and military campaigns, as I generally find them annoying as I prefer to focus on keeping my population happy and wealthy, and keeping supply chains from breaking down.
Anno 1404 is one of those games i've always loved and even though the game is 10 years old the game still looks fantastic, it's just sad that there are still some bugs that disappointingly break the game whenever they happen. A good example is the memory bug, so if you have played one of your sandbox playthrough for a long time eventually the game says it doesn't have enough memory so you need to restart, truth is however that the game doesn't recognise you restart the game, so at upmost you can play for 10 mins after you've restarted till the message pops up again. Leaving the game running with this message can and will eventually crash your game if you don't restart. Still even though this and multiple other bugs exist i definitely think its one of the better anno's ever brought out

Totally agree, after all those years 1404 is still highly playable. One of the timeless games I know besides Half life. But you need the Venice expansion pack, get it on steam you cant go wrong with it. But beware of the CDKeys and other game key suppliers. The key might be legit, but not how the gamekeys are obtained.
i’ve done extensive research into cdkeys. I do not endorse, support or use sites like kinguin, g2a or many others, but cdkeys track record is clean, and having worked at a AAA company before, we had no keys unaccounted for from them. This is why I affiliated with them.
I like Anno, but I just wish they could make a proper remake of Patrician 3. I know pretty much no one played this game outside of Germany and Eastern Europe, but it's a really decent economic RTS that in many ways preceded modern versions of Anno (Patrician 3 was released in 2000) and had a really unique focus on trade as you controlled a person (as opposed to a city) who had to climb up the social ladder by trading between the different Hanseatic cities. And you could eventually progress up to being a Mayor of any of the cities in the game, from London to Novgorod too. Shame the series died in early 2000-s and they only made one more game in like 2010 which was just a remake of Patrician III with (crappy) 3D graphics
@@derharlekin5205 AFAIK it's just a remake with 3D graphics. and not even the best 3d graphics at that (it was released in 2010 o rsomething like that)
honestly i prefer this and Anno 2070's system of not needing roads or population to produce goods. What they did in 1800 games like Tropico already did better. this just makes 1800 more micromanagement-y
They really need to make a 30k/40k 4x space colonisation game where you can play as different races, build up production facilities etc and control the galaxy. random events like tyranid hive invasions and ork waaghs etc.
Anno 1404 is the best, however, it has a severe memory leak and crashes in long games. It also has a glitch where a giant stick figure is seen through you city sometimes.
Many, sadly, dislike 2070. Personallly i love it. There is so much to do. And i like the eco&energy Management a lot. But since there are quite a lot of titles to choose from, everybody should find the one they like the most.

It is a great mod. FabbedT from Diablo 2?
I've been looking for mods but couldn't find any! Which platform provides your recommendation?
@@Rex1987 hey man im playing these days. Download this mod IAAM 3.2
What the mod has ?
I enjoy, I need that stimulation once in a while, but it also starts feeling like "work", and it's not something you play to really relax after actual work or something like that (unless you are further into the game where things are set up and you have little to worry about), more when you're rested and clear and up for a challenge.
there really is something very charming about the art style in 1404, i love it.
it's 1701 artstyle the even more charming part of it is how well the whole gameplay works out
I agree land invasions and battles should come back. In 1800, you just attack the enemy port and poof, you win the island. Not enjoyable at all. Especially once you get lots of ships.
i so agree with you, after all this is the era of industry, they could like put in some victorian era troops and ww1 era troops (they did put in ironclad/dreadnought for navy)
ground combat in anno is a burden and hinders the player.
I didn't really like land combat in 1404. It was slow, messy, and the AI seemed to have an endless supply of goods. So a war of attrition seemed ineffective.
@@---uf2zl so they should evolve it, not devolve it...
@@---uf2zl land combat in 1701 was the best
You're gonna love the Venice/golden edition. Its amazing.
I can't believe he only got the base game. Venice is a must have. Hopefully he gets to it.
A few tipps and a glitch ( your choice if you want to use it)
You can shrink in the upgrading of the houses in the market
If you place multiple norias on a farm you need less fields
The glitch: if you have an island item you can duplicate it by click spamming it to the island slots
Holy cow ten years!? Used to love Anno 1404. The newer ones just hadn't reached the same level I think. Looking forward to Anno 1800 as it looks promising at least for now ^^
I played 1404 on the DS back when I was little.
I recently bought 1404 with venice ofc on steam as an old veteran and started of with the scenario "karge küste" something like "arid coast" I think
you have almost no fertility and have to build a cathedral as an endgoal it's just really amazing how it's totally possible to get enough wares by trade taxes and trade in general in this game
aaand this is ultimately what made me realize what the new anno games are lacking: custom missions with unique maps and/or circumstances I mean sure the main game is what's best about the games but these additional challenges not only were really interesting, they also helped you learn different mechanics of the game and made you use them (like trade taxes I would've never used much otherwise)
also the unlockable titles, portraits etc. were much more engaging than what 1800 offers (again that's not what makes the games good but to me it's a major step-back)
is the venice pack included in the anno history pack ? What is the difference with the anno gold edition?
@@shanaqbaimuru353 history includes venice yes
the difference is it's updated for modern systems, WQHD / 4K resolution and more ram utilization
in gold edition it was common that the game crashed with too big population/ship count etc. because it ran out of memory even if you had 8gb or more
if you already own the gold edition you don't "have" to get history, especially if you're not building massive populations etc.
I personally grabbed the whole collection to replay the older titles at a sale
@@brohvakiindova4452 thanks for the answer
I’m obsessed with 1404. Just bought it last week on sale for few bucks on steam
Oh yes! 1404 is one of my favourite games, glad you've now played it :D
Personally I found the ground combat tedious but you can always do a naval blockade of the enemies main island and cut off his supply of luxury goods. Then you can watch the population revolt and burn the island for you >:D
Evil!
Yeah ground combat is really slow, but otherwise other gameplay aspects might suffer.
So you guys tell me i can do this aswell on anno venice? To block all shores? And thats it? fucking hell i made so many ground armies over 20 just to conquer 3 islands simultaneously lol
@@RepublicOfPlay But effective...
Call me crazy, but these graphics are more appealing than they are in 1800. The houses and brick roads look so good.
Anno 1701 is my personal favourite. It would be a hit for multiplayer as well in the upcoming history editions. The Combat system is the best.
100% agreed, I just recently bought the history edition of 1701 so I can play multiplayer, would you be interested in playing with me ?
@@fuyoutubeck would be awesome to play
darin? YOU ARE THE MAN. awe some content!
I loved it so much but than my sister accidentally threw it (she was hiding the nintendo case with a few games in the garbage can to play in the night (an illegal thing), sadly it never came back out)
Not 1404, it was 1701
i actually played that today on my phone with DraStic emulator :D
What better childhood to wish for than one surrounded by nature. Being surrounded by concrete makes one appreciate nature.
@@ToDie4r The grass is always greener on the other side, in this case quite literally. But you underestimate the boredom that comes with the location. Especially when children grow into youth.
I hope anno 1800 will add a land combat system. Anno 1404 combat was a lot of fun once you got the hang of it
There's a chance they'll add it later in an expansion. I think it might be too much for the initial release. It looked cool enough in the beta though :)
Its not an rts, get used to it D;
I still play that old 1404, and the graphics are actually VERY modern, even with a good GPU getting the settings maxxed up is hard...
Only play at 1404 Venice. Love it. Can't wait to get a better computer for 1800 :)
Even though i played this game several times and passed it three time in easy dificulty twice in medium and once in hard i still come back to this game and i havent never unlocked the copper mine and Copper smelter and Optician workshop you need 2200 nobleman for all that buildings i have trouble maintaining 1000 of the nobleman neverless 2200 its pretty hard to keep up with there demands but its still pretty fun to play.
I was looking at getting some games from the Anno series and your video really got me in the direction of 1404 to try it out. Cheap price but the game play looks really fun and your description / review is really good. Ill get this before spending the 100 bucks on 1800 and its addons. Thanks
Wow , played anno 1404 for years. But i didn't had the idea to turn the camera more isometric like your , looks much better.
Yeah going back to it I couldn't play with the almost top down mode by default.
Pressing "End" after you zoom in will keep the isometric view at all distances
I play 1404 for Years, untill 1800 comes out.Now after over 2000 Houers i played 1800 ,i can say,for me is 1800 thegreatest and best Anno of all Time.I am not a Fan of DLCs,but for Anno its ok and worth every Penny.I was one of the lucky Ones who become a Tester for the upcomming DLC "Land of Lions"and just can say,its just great what comming and cant w8 to play the final Version!
(Said by someone whose name is supposed to have umlauts😁!!)
great now i want to play 1404 again
FYI, ANNO 1404 = Dawn of Discovery (on steam) go for the GOLD version of either game as it includes the Venice Expansion.
As a beginner of Anno, I'm considering between 1404 and 1800 and your explanation/analysis is really good! I really enjoyed watching this video ^^
I'd say both. 1404 holds up really well. It has some dated aspects to it, but not in a bad way.
The best Anno's were 1701 and 1404! The first two were praised by the hardcore fanbase but are really challenging to master...
I've played the game for hours and hours, and I'm just learning about the "provisions" thing now.
@@RepublicOfPlay I will
ohhh you really should try out the Venice DLC! It lets you build a big Palace!
Started playing IAAM mod in this locked down situation
Never really been into these kind of games. Going to try this one cuz it was free
Just snagged it as well. Pretty fun so far. I love micromanagement games and the soundtrack is so beautiful.
Anno and Settlers are best game. Thanks for video. Love it.
I'm a huge AOE2 and Anno 1701 fan as well, if you wanna play on DE or history edition I'd be glad to play either game with you
only played 1602 and it was awesome
Anno 1602 one of the first games I got hooked on.
There's something about this game's graphics that makes it look beautiful like good old 2D RTS'
I only played and have Anno 1503 and even in 2020 it's still an excellent game
1404 is the best anno currently. i love it.
i think 1800 will be great, i will just miss land combat.
There is a borderless window mod and better zooming options as well, look for i.a.a.m. To this day i put almost 650 hours in this awesome game 🏡🌄
Still even though this and multiple other bugs exist i definitely think its one of the better anno's ever brought out
Heyo, you definitely should play the missions, they are really really well balanced!
Nice video :)
Sooo, who won at the end?
For me, 1503 was the best one, even though 1602 was my first

Totally agree, after all those years 1404 is still highly playable. One of the timeless games I know besides Half life. But you need the Venice expansion pack, get it on steam you cant go wrong with it. But beware of the CDKeys and other game key suppliers. The key might be legit, but not how the gamekeys are obtained.
i’ve done extensive research into cdkeys. I do not endorse, support or use sites like kinguin, g2a or many others, but cdkeys track record is clean, and having worked at a AAA company before, we had no keys unaccounted for from them. This is why I affiliated with them.

ANNO 1800 is mind-blowing ...
Excellent is just not enough to describe it ....
I played this game for three years without knowing how to get prestige. Still played it though.
I loved Patrician 3. Did you play Patrician 4? I wonder if it is as good?
@@derharlekin5205 AFAIK it's just a remake with 3D graphics. and not even the best 3d graphics at that (it was released in 2010 o rsomething like that)
Russian reporting in. Patrician was THE economic RTS jam for me. Sunk countless hours in the series when I was a teenager. This and the Gothic 2.
honestly i prefer this and Anno 2070's system of not needing roads or population to produce goods. What they did in 1800 games like Tropico already did better. this just makes 1800 more micromanagement-y
What would Anno 30k be like during the Horus Heresy?
They really need to make a 30k/40k 4x space colonisation game where you can play as different races, build up production facilities etc and control the galaxy. random events like tyranid hive invasions and ork waaghs etc.
1404 is a classic!! 😍
Anno 1404 is the best, however, it has a severe memory leak and crashes in long games. It also has a glitch where a giant stick figure is seen through you city sometimes.
I would advise you to play 2070 as well. There is an amazing mod out there called A.R.R.C which makes the game even better.
Many, sadly, dislike 2070. Personallly i love it. There is so much to do. And i like the eco&energy Management a lot. But since there are quite a lot of titles to choose from, everybody should find the one they like the most.
