@@awesomekling I don't know if it's nostalgia or just my point of view changing as I grew up, but the SF I remember from the early/mid-90s seems worlds different from the past decade. Maybe the problematic elements were always there, just not so pronounced? Anyways, I know they're not as popular with views, but I appreciate the Commute Talk posts. :)
Thanks for talking about this. As someone who has lived exclusively in the US I think since life here is always pedal to the floor when it comes to work, school, and relationships it's really easy to fall into those traps and a lot of us drink and do other things to try and get our minds away from that business. My parents were both always alcoholics and having them as an example I'm able to exert self control and don't drink often but the few times I do I always fall into that rhythm of okay I'm not going to stop until my body says so lol. My wife's family who all immigrated from Ecuador are constantly telling me how everyone here works like dogs in comparison to the relaxed lives they had back in Ecuador, so I'm curious if quality of life is also overall better in Sweden? I know as soon as I get off work I'm going to school, as soon as I'm off school I'm trying to sleep to do it again. On the weekends I'm working on cars as a side thing or vegetating on youtube because I spent all my energy during the week, but even then I still have to do some remote work on weekends and take my wife to and from work because our schedules are one day off from each other's. I'm glad you've recovered from that hectic life though and that now you get to do the fulfilling personal coding you like and still give us great content :^)
Thank you for the great video Kling! The idea of obfuscating and seeking in browser optimizations is silly and the thought of that brought a stupid grin on my face. :^) I have also been really liking your JS videos!
Maybe you would’ve been more at home in Seattle. The culture and weather are closer to Sweden, that’s for sure! Also, have you always had a somewhat American accent, or did you pick it up in the US?
I think Swedish accents are closer to a North American accent than they are to most European accents, and most Swedish people I have ever met that have really good English skills just sound American to me.
Thanks for sharing this! I feel like I'm in a very similar situation right now. About to join Apple, dropped out of uni long ago to work on my stuff, and just like you I will also need to wait a year to qualify for the L1 visa. What made you choose to stay in SF instead of Cupertino? Obviously the commute time was way way longer from SF. Also, in general, how were you doing financially there? I don't mean the numbers, but were you able to save some portion of the Apple income while living in the US? Keep up the commute talks! I watch them every day at work :)
Hey Antonio! Anything above 5mg is way too strong in my opinion. Somewhere between 0.25 and 1mg seemed ideal for me. But instead of sticking to those, I would usually buy 10mg pills and take those every night, leading to the side effects I described. Nowadays I take nothing at all and sleep better than ever. Go figure :)
Ahmed Tarek yea when your messed up like me you take adderall for morning and benzos/ambien to sleep. Not a great solution to things but at a time it’s the only thing that helped me live day to day
Yeah for other people watching, if you find yourself wondering if you should take melatonin, you should have an honest conversation with yourself and try to figure out what may be disturbing your sleep pattern/cycle. It may provide a benefit in the short term but you shouldn't depend on it as it doesn't fix the underlying cause which is usually either stress, anxiety, or just poor bedtime routine. A lot of the over-the-counter medications shouldn't be taken long term because oftentimes it's just masking the problem. Source, am a pharmacist.
The melatonin thing is actually a big thing about America. In Finland 6mg and above is pharmaceutical grade and you need a prescription to buy it. In the States you can just buy ridiculously strong stuff over the counter. I just wonder how many people there are going through life completely exhausted and have no idea they are constantly overdosing on melatonin.
I think it is quite amazing that you can talk about your past the way you are. I assume it takes quite some effort to do so.
Thanks Andreas!!! :D
idiot you idiot
> when i was in the US, I lived in San Francisco
…I'm so sorry.
Indeed..

SF is a lovely city, but living anywhere near the tenderloin would definitely ruin the experience.
Thank you for sharing that! 🤗 You're always welcome to come see me in Oklahoma. I'm sure we can find you a nice calm job here with free soda. 😁
Going to Oklahoma this weekend. Quiet and peaceful.

Thanks for sharing! Very interesting
Wonder if we ever crossed paths on the block ;) I lived at Turk and Hyde from 2011 to 2014ish

Did you guys have office sword fights when you were waiting for code to compile ?
Glad you are in a good place now, Andreas. I also live in Lower Non Hil right next to that Trader Joe's :)
Thanks for sharing. Dark stuff.
Just out of curiosity, what is, in your opinion, a strong dose of melatonin?

@@awesomekling Hhhumm the ones I have are 10mg..... maybe I'm also taking too much! Thanks
pftt Benzos for the win.... just kidding, don't ever do that

its a pretty common pattern in the US. First you get into the grind, then the grind gets into you.
You quit your job at apple cause they stopped giving you free soda and snacks :^)
Do you drive a Ford Focus?

Mac33 don’t they sell codeine OTC in those countries though?
in70x In finland? No.
Mac33 oh, maybe it’s the UK. Dunno why I thought that.
