    I am an old fusion jazz piano guy with tears streaming down my 75 year old face. Forty years ago, the soul-stretching “Take 6” transformed me with their dense, complex, unfamiliar harmonies. Today, a 20-something Londoner creates his own international genre, now known just as “Jacob Collier-type” Pop and the entirely world swoons with me. Thank you Jacob . . . I am resting peacefully.

    What a legend. This honestly looks like a scene from a movie. But truthfully Jacob has an incredible way with show business. From the crowd engagement to his movement. But more importantly, his musical talent is so genuine, raw, and honest. He’s an amazing musical, performer, and artist. I’m definitely a fan and I’m hope I can eventually go to a concert ✨

      I love your organic and honest approach towards his music. I attended a concert of his at Sydney Opera House about 3 years ago. This concert reminded me of what I loved of his music....and also reminded me that as much as I love this man's work....I really am not a fan of his Djesse 3 output. This is simply a matter preferences. This is simply an example of respect for a person's work...but not a love of their entire catalogue.

    I just love how Jacob uses his vocoder-ing, vocal abilities and seemingly bottomless knowledge of chords and harmonisation to bring out the fragile emotions of the song. He even brings out some tasteful flourishes that weren't there in the original (e.g. the chords when he sings 'somebody' the first time). Like when you chuck a bit of extra paprika or garlic or whatever, despite what the recipe says, and it works out.

They’re full of people who compare the two, so I’ve started watching to see what was all about, since I love Cole’s music. I don’t get the comparison though, Cole is ironic, self aware, humble, and a real master at everything I heard him playing. A true genius. What I like the most about him is that he doesn’t pander to his audience, he just brings the goods and is a true original. Jacob Collier all i see him doing is pandering, winking at the camera, being all knowing and all meaning and spiritual but at the same time goofy and zany and weird… i don’t know, he looks like an act to me. And he’s not an original, this video where he “plays” his audience, he lifted it up straight from bobby mc ferrin

    • @JillKnapp
      @JillKnapp 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +17

      Nope! You'll know what to do even without practice or training; trust your heart. We need to stop telling ourselves that only certain people are "allowed" to sing. Sure, maybe not everyone should be singing solo center stage, but community singing is part of our collective humanity and it links us together in that present moment, and it links us all back to thousands and thousands of years of humanity. There's no feeling in the world than singing with other people. We all vibrate together. It's one way we create peace. ❤ ❤

    This is what I call music. He shares the whole experience with his audience by making his audience part of the music. This is what a concert is. It's not just about going an listening to the musician but you can tell when the audience is really feeling what he's making them experience deep within themselves when they cheer for it. Everyone is his instrument and he's using everyone's emotions in the room. This is true talent and I haven't seen a single musician do this with is audience. He's taking everyone into consideration and showing a group of total strangers that they are all beautiful especially when they work together. This is truly healing to my soul.

    The beautiful thing about singing/music is that it unites everyone in the same activity.
    They are breathing as one
    communing as one
    rejoicing as one
    It sounds odd to people who haven’t found their rhythm and tone….. but it is truly life changing when you join in with the sound.

    Love how most stage performances finish off with a big moment - stand-ups wrap with their best joke, actors finish on the plot resolution, most musicians show it out with their most famous song. But Jacob Collier finishes his set with just a goose-bumps imbuing chord that makes everyone in the audience shiver to end his performance.

    Did some research on the mic he used for his vocal while playing the piano. It says Shure and is wired. However Shure mics usually have that tapered-off design around the capsule. It turns out to be a wireless condenser mic capsule (KSM 11, very high quality) used on Shure's VPH system which converts a wireless mic capsule into a wired mic. Good balance between cost and sound quality!
