I made nice reusable metal frame ends that the legs slide under into the skid s .The bucking and splitting process is right in front of the skids . Throw the wood right on the Skids too a pile then it’s right there for stacking . So much easier and faster working back stacking . 👍👍👍

    Hi Chris - it's Big Rodders in Ireland. I used pallet ends for years but I find it more convenient to use ropes instead of the planks and nails. The system is fast, versatile and has never failed. However, I use rope found when beach combing - not an easy option for you!!

    • @InTheWoodyard
      @InTheWoodyard  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      So how do you attach the rope and where?

    • @rodneysweetnam8653
      @rodneysweetnam8653 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chris - Big Rodders again. I have a stock of two different lengths of rope. I first use 2 short pieces to tie the base of the vertical pallet to the horizontal one. Then I use 2 X 6ft lengths at 45 degrees just like your 2 planks to keep the end pallet vertical. I have an aversion to nails, having knelt on them in the past but if I had to use planks I would use screws and a drill driver for speed and ease of dismantling. Now get back to stacking, with or without Dave - and Irene!

    After doing the corner stacking, I went to this method last year. Since I don't sell wood, or worry about stack size, I just pick a few trees that look like 3 or 4 pallets will fit and then set a pallet up against the tree. You're are on to something because it is much easier.

    • @InTheWoodyard

      I tried that and I still have to stack it eventually for measuring and I found that the debris gets piled up on the bottom and stops the air flow anyway.

    I stack along the back wall and side wall. From floor to ceiling. 8’. Back wall 5.5’ long. Three rows deep, side wall is about 4’ long and two rows deep. Pieces run 16” to 18” long but some are. 19”/20”. I have not perfected cutting each piece exactly the same length. My stove can take a 24” stick. My sons stove takes 20” I think, so we have to be a little more exact with his wood stick length.

    I never use plastic or a trap on top of my firewood. IT GET MOLD, AND WET. I got some fiberglass corrugated panels, That what i use on the top with bricks for long term storage run some bailing wire. The stack that i going to use brick works great~ The Plus is? it stay dry! air can get to it faster this way I just got out of 5 days of rain. and loaded up on firewood every other day in the rain. and EVERY BIT OF IT WAS DRY, the bottom of the stack might get a little damp. from rain bouncing on it. but the panels keep it dry. I just lay a panel out long ways on the front side of the stack

    • @InTheWoodyard

      If you cover just the top to keep rain and snow off it is best, some people cover the whole pile to the ground and then trap moisture and the it molds.

    Good method of stacking. Saves us tons of time too. Lol, I'm such a cheapskate -- seeing you toss "full length" pieces into the wheelbarrow to clear space for next pallets you lay down kills me. I know it's "kindling" thin pieces, but I always take the extra few seconds to stack that with the rest of the wood.
    Lol, again that's ridiculous. I know. I wish I had a method to keep as much of the kindling & bundle it up for clients. Right now it would cost so much more to keep track of it & sort it from the bark & dirt & any rotted soft bs wood that you definitely don't want mixed in with good seasoning wood. It's a work in process, ha.

    In the long run the fiberglass panels will last for many of years. while plastic and traps only last a few month. Plus the condensation from the plastic and trap makes firewood wet. These panels there no condensation> So panels is the way to save in the long run
