My theory:
The story of the Dodorex, the Dodowyvern, and the power of the Dodo:
A long, long time ago, Dodos ruled the world. They were all powerful and strong. They kept peace on the Arks, and helped the weak. But the dark lords, the Pego and the Ichthyornis, did not like the prosperity the Dodos had created. So, they assembled their armies and went to wreak havoc on the peaceful world. They split a massive trench in the highlands, and emerged from the depths of hell. The evil forces had two favorite targets, the Rex and the Wyvern. Both of these targets did not have power at this time, and so the Pegos terrorized the Rexes on the ground and the Ichthys terrorized the wyverns in the sky. The Dodos saw the chaos, and sympathized for the Wyverns and the Rexes. So, being the kind, brave, and empathetic Dodos they were, they gave all of their power to the Rexes and Wyverns, making them strong to fight the Demons. But the dodos knew it was a sacrifice, and they had no more power. They were reduced to tiny and weak beings, but it was necessary to help the Wyverns and Rexes. In this transfer of power, two animals were born, the Dodorex and the Dodowyvern. Now, every Halloween night, they both emerge, and the Zombdodos are the remains of the old powerful Dodo.
