Judging by how Max talked about them in Parents Day and how his file was done it looks like they just generally don’t care about Max’s wellbeing everything about Max screams neglect he reacts badly to displays of affection, his teddy bear is damaged with practically zero repairs done to it, he knows jack shit about his cultural background and the camper file was quickly scrapped together with no actual camp activities put on it
my favorite part about this animatic is how real it is. nobody is out of character, and this is an actual thing that could happen. 12/10 love that angst

Even though he tries to act tough, Max is still a child. And being abandoned by your parents would be a horrible thing to go through for anyone at age 10. As sad as it is, this is actually super realistic for something that could happen at the end of the show. Max's parents never signed him up for an activity, didn't show up on Parents Day, and we've heard absolutely nothing from them at all during the show. It's entirely possible that they just wanted to get rid of Max and that they don't care where he ends up.
I love how accurate things are here. Max indeed would miss his friends, as seen when he says " We were temporary friends at best " and regrets saying it afterwards. Awesome animation !

This whole animatic is beautiful, but I really want to give some praise to the style. The characters feel very sympathetic, and a lot of it is in how their eyes are drawn. And Max especially is drawn in a way that makes him look like what he is; a kid. It makes it feel more real when you see the pain he's in, because deep down he is just a scared little kid. And I love the little adoption bit at the end, because everyone seems to agree it's what Max really deserves. ♥️

If David ever meets Max’s parents in-show, I’m honestly expecting him to explode. Gwen just stares at him in shock as he curses them out because she didn’t think it was even possible for him to get *that* angry. He’s genuinely frightening. When you push a sincerely kind, caring person past their limit, they’re scary as hell.
you know what i think would be an amazing episode? so every kids parents has to write them a letter, and everyone gets a meaningful and sweet one expect for max, because his parents didn’t send one. so before they hand them out david writes a letter pretending to be max’s parents to make him happy. max is finally happy, but david tries to spend the episode hiding the guilt, until he finally tells max in the end, which makes a dadvid moment happen where they hug. i would pay to see it.
You know what else is sad? Max’s name itself. Think about it, Max is a pretty common name, like the first boy name you probably think about. Meaning that his parents didn’t give any thought in his name and just chose one that doesn’t really have personality. Another point to show that they don’t care about him
