You know that's not totally true sometimes given the right circumstances the mom will go down, people being there where the baby is detracts from the Mom going down, let me ask what did the mom do when she was reunited with the baby ? usually they are very emotional. Also sloths cant see 4 feet in front of themselves they have really bad eyesight hearing and smell is what they use, so if the mom is high up and has no idea where the baby is it doesn't make sense to go down so that plays into it. I think the same about the people, but I'm glad that the baby is with his mother, I just think it would have gone a little gentler ... I wonder, why did the baby fall down? Too weak to keep up? And has it not suffered any damage during the fall?
@@stocker535 Well if you ever watch the babies with mom they start off slow then as time goes on they get braver going further away from the mom trying new climbing endeavors and they make a mistake or a branch breaks many times the mom and the baby fall together or sometimes moms get in fights with other sloths and the baby falls also. If you watch close when a sloth climbs a tree it will constantly smell the branch its on this is for many reasons to learn which trees are which to smell for other sloths and to smell if the wood is rotten and the branch is sturdy. As far as falling they usually Mom or babies do not get hurt when they fall they tend to land on there backs & there backs are made with bones & stuff that break there fall protecting them but its different if they fall on cement that can kill them soft grass there usually ok. Mother didn’t come down because of the clamoring crowd of humans around where the baby fell. Good on the guide for helping but these tourists likely triggered the mother’s flight response or scared her into freezing.

Sometimes it’s what’s best for the sloth esp if it’s hurt or sick the sanctuary is the best for helping baby sloths

Lucky you were able to save it. When small sloths get separated 99.9% of the time their just a quick snack for animals walking by.
