Ive just finished my first full week as a fully self employed domestic spark, took the wife out for a nice meal as celebration, got home having a beer watching your video. I’ve been commercial on the books 15 years, youre a big part of why I’ve decided to go on my own, I identify so much with your attention to detail, your pride in your work, and just your general working style. Thanks so much for being part of the push to working on my own! I might be slightly drunk and emotional, but you’re making a difference doing your thing, keep it up!
Good luck with your new business mate. I was so close to handing my notice in on Friday. Might still happen this week but it’s bloody terrifying the thought of giving up a steady wage 😂
Good luck pal with your own business I wish you every success. Where are you based? I need a great electrician who works like Nick, for a new consumer unit. Im near Preston Lancashire, are you in my area? Take care, best regards, Chris. 👍👍👍
@@richardclatworthy6381 I left a company on JIB rates, with 50+ sparks, with zero control of my destiny, where you had to beg for overtime to make any decent wage, where we had to be on shitty freezing cold building sites at 7:00 in the morning, where the office had no respect or value for their lads. I’m now my own boss, charging double(sometimes more) my old JIB rate, getting more sleep, working on my terms, doing jobs I want, knocking back the ones I don’t want. No brainier to me!
I moved into a house a few months ago that needs a lot of work doing. I might be getting some spot lights fitted for the bedrooms in the future and those are really nicely designed. I've bookmarked them for future reference!
Redid our bathroom last year and replaced 4 downlights with two LED runs. So much better. Much flatter lighting, far less shadowing. As a bonus they're also tunable white. We used PVC ceiling panels and I found shallow profiles which I could just cut and glue into the panels.
As someone who normally doesn’t install integrated downlights I must say I do love the X50. My only gripe would be that a 76mm hole would mean I can get my hand in. Also that 3 gang switched would surely be easier with a double box and grid switches?
Can’t say I’ve ever thought of getting a customer to record measuring out downlights 😂 providing they’re clipped correctly and in coiled loops (not in tied knots) you’re normally ok!
You mentioned pushing the wires back up into the conduit for your switches. Can you explain why and how you used the conduit for your twin and earth to your switches? Thanks Chris
Hey nick - what are your thoughts on how downlights are normally installed down here - most of them are just an inline power socket in the ceiling which is switched, and then the downlights are just plugged in to the socket and the pushed up into the ceiling. So when one breaks all it is is, drop down the light and then unplug the socket and plug a new one in.
Nick, think about wot you said at 13.51 for a minute.when you run 3 core n earth on a 2 way and intermediate how many of those cores do you connect to the intermediate switch? and how many just get joined together in a wago and stuffed in the back of the box?
Does not matter that there is an intermediate switch in the circuit. Only connecting the L1 and L2's together so only 2 cores required, plus the CPC. Also, the switch you held up only looked like a two-way switch, only three connections??
I still don’t get why so many sparks still cut the lights out after skimming, I get its not always possible but I just couldn’t cope with it, always cut mine out on 1st fix even if it means a visit just to cut them out.
Do those x50s dim all the way down, I usually only fit gu10s but sometimes you need a shallow light but I’ve had to change a few lately coz they only dim 50%
I've just fit 75 Aurora Downlights in my house and very jelous of the JCC ones! The bloody springs on the are so tight and there is no chance you'll get them out without chipping a bit of the board off!
@@stevenhinchley3588 Main reason I was avoiding integrated fixtures and wanted GU10s I could easily replace without messing about pulling the entire downlight in future. I overlooked the fact that they would need to be pulled out anytime you need to paint the cieling, However its not like this happens every year so I guess its not too bad.
I've seen you recommend those downlights a few times. Why do you rate them so highly Vs others? Also curious how have you got the wiring to go across the joists? Did the plasterer wire than in for you? I'm used to seeing holes where a spark needed to drill a hole through the joist
At the risk of having a senior moment in public, could someone please explain how you don't need the third strapper just because the power feed & neutral are at the switch. If there were a switched feed from the 2nd switch directly to the lights, then Yes - easy peassy. But without the third wire, either as a strapper or as a switch wire from the second switch; I can't make it work. And an intermediate switch only uses 2 strappers, so I don't see how that makes any difference.
I just found SuperSparks previous comment on previous video. He does specify need to have switch-wire at second switch, so all good. I have done this in the past. However I still used 3 Core because we still need to get the 3rd core to carry the neutral form the first switch to the switch-cable at the second switch. If not we have to supply a separate neutral to the light fitting.
Fischer was always better than the rest....others have challenged them , price & quality . But in the end theirs is more than a piece of moulded plastic.....They actually work....

You’ve left commercial to do domestic? Are you mad?? 😂😂

Good to see you back in action, I was starting to get a bit worried.
glad to see you're still alive. I've missed your videos
Love that your parents corrected your pronounce of water I am at my kids all the time.

you could also mark on the floor which doesn't change and use the laser to shoot the point up to the ceiling
So much better watch nick than watching artisan channel guy annoying sales man. Keep at it nick your do well.
yea artisan has lost its grip on friendly, they are now just sell sell sell ☹️ at least nick pulls you in and makes you feel like a mate
@ Artisan talks out of his ass watched 3 of his videos in total and never again can’t stand guy.
Nick… Nice to see you back.👍
For your LED tape profile use the one that’s got the mesh either side … once it’s plastered in it looks the business 👍
Looking in bloody good shape mate!

See those magnets in a few videos - Amazon find? Might have to try find some.
Knightsbridge do a modular system , can have a intermediate and 2way on a 2 gang without using a grid system.

You’ve returned! How dare you take such a long break from youtube and spend time with your family!😂
I always cut the spots out before it gets plastered
Good to see you back bud

Have you considered doing wireless switches with the receiver on the light fitting, Nike, thus saving having to wire all the switches?
You can get grid units for bg evolve
My kitchen isn't that big but we have 18 down lights the wife wanted it really bright 😎

What happened to the van?
no offense nick but your videos always seen to have the volume reduced compared to other vids...or is it just me
You're right. It does seem very low
Yeah the audio in this video is really low
You can turn on 'Stable volume' in the TH-cam player if you don't mind a little distortion from time to time.
@@Shocker99 how does that help us if it's recorded low?
Wheres the van gone..
