The account got hacked and that was the point where I quit playing. I feel so sorry for anybody who didn't personally experience this period of Runescape. This was the absolute PEAK of this game's existence. 2004-2007 is the RS golden era and that's not even up for debate.
Back in 2007 doing barrows was the equivalent to doing raids and you were probably looked at as a god if you were consistently completing barrows runs.
It didn't help that the closest teleport was the Canifis ancient spellbook tele/mort myre fairy ring. You had two choices, burn ppots doing multiple runs before leaving, or get like 3kc an hour by leaving between runs.
I remember getting a Dharok helm after HD update came out with that helm being like 8mil and I never in my life saw that much money before I thought I was cool with whip then
I did barrows for hours probably the most inefficient way possible, teleing all the way back to varrock and walking my ass back to canifis and ALL the way through the swamp, ghasts rotting my food, and never got shit.
The guy who was offering jobs to people in the bank brought me way back. I co-ran a cannonball business in Al Kharid on the premise of free smithing experience. Made an ad on the Runescape forums and everything. It's how I made my first million gp. Good times, great video.
Getting all the pigs in the pen reminds me of how I used to train thieving by getting *obsessively* good with the dragon spear special attack and making the entire Ardougne market barren except like one guard so I could steal from all the stalls. Cheered on by the fellow thieves, but jeered by lots of very confused players who were resorting to going into the buildings and killing them all so they could go back to training on them.

I remember when dag kings release me and a few friends wanted to try it so we put on our best mystic and rune armor. we navigated the dungeon to the kings room. then having no clue what we were doing we all ran in and crashed some people that were already there and some how they all died leaving barrows sets and obby sets which we managed to loot. it was quite the come up

I sold them and just walked around with an obby maul until I could eventually afford a whip (may or may not have begged my Mum to buy gp). Ahh, the memories.

He was an adult who played at work, and was like lvl 121. I also remember getting bonuses, and I think a Christmas present lol.

God I played RS from 2005 to 2010 then got into OSRS about two years ago - this video brought back so many memories and really made me think about how inefficiently I used to play this game. Really hit home about how younger me was more interested in having fun rather than efficient skilling or money-making - wanting to become the next Old Nite or Zezima. I remember once being lucky enough to just catch a glimpse of Zezima and being awestruck. Me and a buddy of mine started making fake money-making guides and posting them to TH-cam and Dailymotion where we would start off all serious and managed to make the guides look incredibly convincing. We got very good at it and our videos started to get very popular. The usual formula was to start with a professional looking introduction and step-by-step guide, however the last few steps would usually involve making players go to very dangerous areas or random places in the world where they would either die or get stuck. Reading all the salty comments was fucking hilarious. However someone from school found our channel and started spreading the word that we were behind it and eventually I pulled the videos down out of fear that my school mates would bash me up lmao.
I remember I catfished someone wearing expensive armor (rune g) and a fletching cape who was standing in varrock square. When I got on their account, I never took a single item, just wanted to play castle wars. I even made a fake myspace page to convince them. Just to play castlewars.
Back then people were much more toxic in the game. That's a perfect example too... they would call you a noob if you ate or used overhead prayers in Castle Wars.

I was training combat and selling the runes (especially law runes) to the general store for gp. He told me to go rock crabs when I’m ‘stronger’. I followed him there from Camelot and camped there for days literally watching every hitsplat since I was worried to die. Till one day. A rich dude (black cavalier, cannon, gnome scarf and ranger boots) died in the corner of my eye because his cannon hit this level 48 fremmy guard and the first thing I saw was coins. I clicked the coins but couldn’t pick it up since my inventory was full with lobsters. I ate the lobster and clicked again. 32M cash, for the first time in my life I saw a green coin stack and when I realized that it was so much I cried. A few hours later I bought a black cavalier, flared trousers and a gnome scarf. Man I felt like I won the lottery.
I still call minor enemies in boss fights adds, i.e. the skeletons in the Nito fight in Dark Souls. I didn't think it was a rare term, maybe more used by MMO people though, not sure. Haven't played any MMO in a long time, so I dunno what them crazy kids are saying these days

I never managed to beat jad in 2007, but the karils + guthans helm & crystal bow was super common for fight caves from what I remember. almost everyone recommended you bring guthans to heal. i think the rationale behind keeping the guthans helmet on is not having to switch too much. people also used to frequently mix and match barrows sets in different situations, and it was considered good lol. veracs helm/skirt was also recommended armour for fight caves. my memory is that at the time, fury was an item that only rich high levels owned. people were less concerned about small stat differences so you ended up with what look like weird welfare-looking setups to the modern eye, but at the time no one really thought much of not having best in slot armour. “efficiency” didn’t become a major force in runescape until well after the max cape was released. (2012 approx.) i played consistently from 2007-2015 so I saw the cultural shift from playing-for-fun to playing-to-max first hand. i would suspect this also corresponded with the playerbase getting older; we all learned how to play “correctly” rather than just wandering around as stupid kids.
I used to basically just camp the varrock general store F2P. I saw an amulet of power in there one time and it got snagged really fast. I spent the next week staring at the general store until another popped up and I bought it for my entire bank, which was around 10k.
You should cover the rock golem that would kill you when mining or evil check that would spawn and kill you when skilling haha those were good times use to never be able to kill them and rumor had it they would drop a rune pickaxe (expensive in those days)

Funny thing about old youtube comments is that they never had a reply feature like they do now. The old system would be @username and the text would be a blue hyperlink with the comment right after. Man I stopped playing osrs at like 2200 total a couple years ago and switch to rs3 ironman, but this is seriously the best osrs video ive seen in a long time. Lmao.
