April 2024 - My little Yaris developed a dim headlight bulb and I instantly feared the worse because usually when a fuse pops, the light would go out completely. Mine stayed on, so I feared the worse that the wiring had melted or a short somewhere and I had to spend a weekend tearing into the wiring to fix it. Watched this guys video and found that popped 10amp fuse. Changed it and it is working again! This guy is a legend! All the best
Man you are a legend. I was going crazy on my new to me 07 sequoia. My 15 amp fuse was blown for the passenger side HL. Thankfully there’s a spare 15 amp fuse inside the fuse box. Thank you!
I might as well leave a little writing on the wall. This video is actually really useful, because most people would think that if the light is dim, it still has a connection and the fuse isn't blown. You just saved me a trip to the store and some money on a new bulb. Now I can begin the head lamp conversion on my 97 Camry. Halo LEDs here I come!!😇
Thank you so much for posting this! I bought a car with the same exact issue (previous owner hit deer and broke headlight) changed the assembly, changed bulb and still dim. This video saved me a headache for sure! Much appreciated!
Hi.... Great video... Saved me a bunch of money! Was getting ready to go to the dealership and have them check it out.. I have never had this problem before. I thought the bulb was the problem. I live in Germany and had this problem with a Toyota Yaris. I pulled the fuse out and sure enough.... It was blown! Thanks for the tip!
Oh my God thanks! I feel so stupid now, I had the same issue, tested fuses for continuity without taking it out of the fuse holder, it passed. I then spent the next 4 hours ripping my car apart and re grounding wires and pulling apart looms in the steering column looking for the fault. I assumed that the continuous fuse, the dim light and only 4vdc at globe meant it must be a bad ground somewhere. Saw this video and thought I'd go back to basics and visually check my fuse. Very annoying!
Thank you. I have been chasing this issue for quite sometime. Lightbulbs were only lasting a few weeks at some points. Then when I did get one to last it was super dim. The connector looked horrible and feel apart one day so I replaced the connector, still dim lights. Found your video ran out checked the fuse and sure enough burnt. Thank you I now have 2 full headlights for the first time in I don't know how long!
I was stoked to find this video as I have this EXACT issue, passenger side bulb very dim. New bulb was no help. Replaced harness as it was very corroded (hard soldered in place), still no help. Saw this video, checked both my fuses and they are good. And yes, you can pull the passenger side fuse out and both lights stay on just very dim on pass, but pull drivers fuse out and both lights go off. I assume I have a broken wire or bad ground. :(
You are a bloody legend mate Thankyou so much I’m an electrician by trade and I even did a continuity test on each of the fuses and it tested ok???? Weird. I don’t know your name but you just saved us a heck of a lot of money at the auto electricians. God bless you and your family for sharing this with the world. Kindest regards and best wishes and prosperity to you and your family from Aussie Coin Hunter TH-cam Channel. LEGEND STATUS ACHIEVED.
Good tip Tyler! I suppose from a damage limitation point of view, the more isolation there is in the electrical system the better. So if one side has an issue, the fuse can blow without affecting the other side.
Thank you for the video it helped me. Had the same problem, I never thought it could come from the fuse. I changed it and it’s now working perfectly well. Greetings from France
Cheers buddy! I've been racking my brains on this... totally discounted the fuses thinking it couldn't have blown if there was a connection! Saved me taking it into the garage. All the best from the UK :)
Yup, check the darn fuse first. Same thing with step sons vehicle. He wanted to buy new headlamp accessory, I pushed for new bulbs first. Always check the fuse first, lessoned learned. Wasn't even bad, just needed re-seating.
this saved me alot of time and aggregation! I checked and seen it was blown like you showed so I replaced the fuse and the headlight was now nice and bright! Thanks
Dear Sir thanks for your help, it worked as I have a Toyota Vitz which is also called Toyota Yaris 2008. The light is connected in series and fed in parallel so when the fuse blow it runs the headlamp in series, that's what is happening, thanks.
Ok great vid thanks for your honest contribution. Want you to know the fuse puller is the little white thing directly to the right of the red fuse you pulled in the fuse box under the hood..
Brilliant mate...you just saved me a mint. I had exactly this issue with my Corolla in the UK. BANG 15amp fuse in mine. I was searching for an Earth fault for days!!!
Great lecture! do you know how to fix low beam that don't work? my mechanic replaced both headlights of my Honda Civic 97, but he couldn't fix the low beam to light. the connectors to the bulb burned so he replaced them but failed to find the problem. Thank you!
Yaris with dim headlight and full beam did not work, as stated changed fuse and worked A1. Thanks Very much. Plus if you have a yellowing Headlight I clean mine with Brasso it works great.
Its not just foreign cars my 04 Grand am had the same issue. Passenger side accident damage, and after I replaced all the parts I had to replace 3 blown fuses. Headlight, taillights, and turn signal fuses.
I have a similar issue with an 04 highlander, where the right side high beam isn't bright at all, I checked the voltage and on the right side it's low at 11.5 volts, but on the driver's/right side the voltage is at 14v. Idk where the issue could be. I'm gonna try your fix if you got one.
I figured it out. It was actually really easy. The drl fuse(in a separate, smaller fuse block right by the windshield labeled DRL3 OR DRL2 was missing , SO I put a fuse in there and bam, the high beam is now working as it should. However, the daytime running lights don't seem to work. I'll check the relay tomorrow.
After checking my fuse it was bad, I also figured out that when 1 headlight goes dim that is a sign you have a bad fuse on that side. If you pull the other headlight fuse they both go completely out. So it is a safety feature so you still have 2 lights just one goes dim. Also you will notice that inside the car your high beam light indicator turns on but is dim compared to it actually being on.
I have a problem with my Toyota, I have the right headlight that is bright and the other on dim, when I switch on the bright switch it goes the other way round , left bright and right dim. Fuses are good, so what might be the problem?
I have a problem with my Toyota probox 2012. this morning I was trying to start and once the engine starts and i applied the brake is shuts off, what do you think causes that?
You could buy a headlight restore kit to clear the oxidized plastic on those headlights. I used the cheap turtle wax kit on my 2000 echo headlights much better light for driving at night.
I changed the headlight connector put a pig tail in its place new bulb still have dim on the driver's side bought a headlight relay still dim what could it be
Which fuse was it? I have the same problem on a 2007 Toyota Camry. Bought new lights but that wasn't the problem. I was told it may also be the ground.
Look inside the underhood fuse center. You should see 2 fuses, one marked LH headlight and another labeled RH headlight. They may say LH and RH low beam or something similar. Check each of those. They blow when the headlight bulb gets physically damaged, so check that car for any accident repairs.
I had this happen on my 2008 Honda FIT. It turns out each headlight has it's own fuse in the fuse box in the engine compartment. I replaced the passenger fuse and my passenger side headlight, became just as bright as the drivers side headlight.
something called Dim-Dip..was around for a few years, seems to have all but disappeared over here in UK now (thank god!!) strange little car The Echo..we get the Yaris, which I suppose is similar but only has a 1 litre engine..
It must be wired so that theres a voltage drop when one blows as a fail safe, interesting, ill have to do a little research on this to see how its configured. Makes you wander what else may be wired in a quirky way that could be a simple fix if you can figure the wiring out.
Tyler's Neighborhood Garage.. I use 4 quart of engine oil as I was told but the oil light takes a little longer to come off the dash board than when I just got it. Do you think i need more oil?
So I got a new headlight fixture because I cracked the old one. I installed everything correctly but it’s dim and blinker is also really dim. No fuses are blown, what the hell is going on? It’s a 2009 Pontiac g6 by the way
@@TylersNeighborhoodGarage Thanks for the quick reply. Apparently Pontiacs are known for the connectors on the bulbs going out. I still don’t know how this could effect the whole headlight or how it even happens to a brand new fixture. It could be a number of things, I might have to take it to a mechanic. Thanks again
Didn't need to run for the fuse puller, there is already one in the fuse box, it is white. It is to the right of the fuse you pulled, it is physically 1/4" away from the fuse.
I took apart the whole front end, and took the wiring apart to see if I could find a bad wire and a bad ground. Nope! followed the wire to the fuse location and it was the darn fuse... I spent 3 hours, where as if I would've looked online first I would've been done in 10 minutes or less......
6yrs later- dec 2023 new subscriber here. Saved me allot of headache with my ae111 corolla. 😊

Thank you for the "fuse check first reminder." You saved me some bucks before buying new bulbs.

LOL nice.
Thanks so much for sharing. Saved me from lots of headache troubleshooting.
Thanks! This is exactly what my 2007 Yarus needed!
Thank you so much for posting this! I bought a car with the same exact issue (previous owner hit deer and broke headlight) changed the assembly, changed bulb and still dim. This video saved me a headache for sure! Much appreciated!
Fixed my issue! I was worried I had to replace the wiring for my care, but this worked perfectly. Only $5 to fix
I feel so stupid. I would never guessed my car has fuse for each light.
Thanks

Wow. I have to admit, this is something I did not know. Never had the issue, but that is a great thing to know for the future! Thank you!

Excellent, had this exact issue and changed the bulb to no avail. Thank you!
Thank you for the video it helped me. Had the same problem, I never thought it could come from the fuse. I changed it and it’s now working perfectly well.

Just wanted to say thanks. Never thought of the fuse being an issue since there was still some light, Appreciate the help!

Thank you! I drive a Celica & it was the sane problem. No one else talked about this. Thanks again!
You're welcome. I guess people are unable to accept that a blown fuse could cause a dim headlight.
like a few others i mucked about for hours BEFORE checking the net. lesson learned. thanks for the great vid!!
Thanks Tyler, saved me a hell of a lot of diagnostic work.
Good advice! Check the fuse first, THEN look for headlight replacements.
damn, I've owned Toyotas most of my adult life...which is a long time, this fix worked. Thanks

Great 👍
Great tip, simple and definitely not exactly common knowledge
Thank you, now I have to repair the fuse on my in-laws car.
Ok great vid thanks for your honest contribution. Want you to know the fuse puller is the little white thing directly to the right of the red fuse you pulled in the fuse box under the hood..
Thanks, not sure how I missed it.
thank you
have been trying to figure this out for 4 months......easy fix
Exactly the issue on my 02 Escalade blown fuse after i had already rewired the entire headlight on both sides Thanks 50 thumbs up
This dude is a bloody legend! Thank you mate!
Thank you so much I did buy a lightbulb but you were right it was the fuse 👍🙏🙏🙏
Thank you for this video!! Saved me a trip to the shop and saved me $$$! Worked like a charm you da man 💯💯
Thank you, Dude. I'm having the same problem with 98 Toyota Corolla. I check the fuse box under the hood. Again, thank you.
Me too!
Brilliant mate...you just saved me a mint. I had exactly this issue with my Corolla in the UK. BANG 15amp fuse in mine. I was searching for an Earth fault for days!!!
MCFC Me too. Never thought it was a fuse. 15amp too. Corolla in France. Helpful video.
Just awesome dude! saved lots of efforts. Thanks a lot!
Awesome video, saturn vue had this exact issue, switched out blown fuse and viola, good to go.

Thank you worked like a champ on our 2008 Yaris
Yaris with dim headlight and full beam did not work, as stated changed fuse and worked A1. Thanks Very much. Plus if you have a yellowing Headlight I clean mine with Brasso it works great.
Woohoo! Worked on my 2003 Saturn LS! Just bought it cheap. Thought it was gonna be a big issue. Nope. Just the fuse.
thanks Tyler my bad i mistook the fuse for the left hand headlight for the spare fuse.
good work
Way to go Tyler! Great job on the Toyo too.
Its not just foreign cars my 04 Grand am had the same issue. Passenger side accident damage, and after I replaced all the parts I had to replace 3 blown fuses. Headlight, taillights, and turn signal fuses.
Ps a big hello from Perth Western Australia
Thanks so much this helped me fix mines and I change bulbs and that wasn’t the problem

I owe you a beer thanks man you saved me $42 you da man!
Thanks , I have high beams that are dull. I will check fuses .
Thanks for the tip. You probably just saved me some money!
MAN IM AN IDIOT!!!! CANT BELIEVE I DIDNT CHECK THIS! THANKS BUD!
My right globe is bright and left one is also bright but a few percentage dimmer... is it worth to note that it’s also the fuse problem?
his fuse tool was right next to the headlight fuses 😅 apart from that good tip thanks
Thanks! Same issue with my 2006 Scion
💯💯💯💯💯💯
I use to go to yards and pull relays fuses and bulbs and those blue photocells in some vehicles.
Great video saved me lots of money
Thank You Sir!!! i shall try this later.
thank you soo much!! this information worked on my 2001 dodge ram 1500 !!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thank you I fixed my Honda
Thanks for help me fix the same prob👍

Great video, worked for me!
Thanks for share , :) , this fixed my problem in SUbaru 96 , thanks
Great tip Tyler
That car has the worst looking battery clamps, EVER.
Haha, that's actually very old battery protectant spray.
I don't mean to make fun of it, because you get such fantastic buys. Of course the fixing you do is very impressive.
your face
look at the terminals
Thank you so much I was checking so many things but this works.
You're welcome. One of those unusual issues.
Tyler's Neighborhood Garage.. I use 4 quart of engine oil as I was told but the oil light takes a little longer to come off the dash board than when I just got it. Do you think i need more oil?
Have you checked the oil on the dipstick to ensure it's up to "Full"?
Thanks you bro so much!! ❤
Thanks
Thanks that good to know as ive seen few cars have that problem but always wonder what would cause that lol
Awesome! Works on a GM car too!
So I got a new headlight fixture because I cracked the old one. I installed everything correctly but it’s dim and blinker is also really dim. No fuses are blown, what the hell is going on?

Cool video thanks for sharing
I have the exact same problem but i checked ALL the fuses and they were all OK...
Hell to the yea, that fixed it all
Thanks helped me out.
