  • In this video, Teacher T Thailand compares the Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 against the Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650. Highlight the differences to help you I. Your choice to decide which bike is best for you.
    The Shotgun 650 is more of a sports bike, with a slightly sportier demeanour compared to the Super Meteor 650. It's got a more upright riding position, which gives you a commanding view of the road ahead. And let me tell you, this thing can hustle through the corners with confidence. The front fork rake is more steeper, making it quicker and more efficient to cut through corners

    As a shotgun owner this May I can easily say its a great head turner as it scores an absolute 100 percent on looks , performance wise not a bad machine at all, high acceleration, easy riding position and you don't feel the weight of driving a 240 kg heavy machine.... The stencil white colour however is my personal favourite

    As I previous Super Meteor owner, now a Shotgun owner I can reliably inform you the suspension is not the same. The Shotgun has longer travel. I measured it because I bought some Hagon shocks and was going to swap them on to the Shotgun but they came up short by at least an inch.

    • @Teacher-T-Thailand
      @Teacher-T-Thailand  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      How interesting. They really did look the same to me, but of course I did not measure them. It did feel a much more softer ride. How are you finding it? The Hagon shocks come in 290mm and 310mm. The original Meteor 650 shocks are 310mm. I have opted for the 290mm to try and lower the bike for me at the same time. Could you measure your rear shocks for me? 🙏

    Your the only reviewer to point out the seat and suspension issues regarding the Super Meteor, i bought a Super Meteor and ended up having dry needling to repair the damage done to my lower back and bottom, courtesy of the utterly terrible seat and suspension. I live in Adelaide Australia the roads aren't the best but that seat, it's a torture device.

      I say it as it is. But I’m getting a lot of hate for it on my recent Himalayan review. My seat is a lot better on the Meteor since I did my modification to it. Not for the faint hearted though. And today I will fit and test the new Hagon shocks and test. I hope you recover soon. And fingers crossed that there may be a solution for a better ride.

    I also think the mid controls on the Shotgun improve the ride significantly too. With your feet forward, all the weight is concentrated on your tail bone. With mid controls, the shock from bumps is pushed up through your body's core instead. When parts become available, I'll probably fit the mid controls set up to my Super Meteor.

    as a fellow super meteor owner I love your take on the shot gun. The part about the seat height is very useful. At 6 foot 2 the super meteor is perfect if it was any taller, I think it would be awkward for me. I have come to absolutely love the slightly foot forward position of the foot pegs, so far if I had to choose again, I would still get the super meteor. in the U.S.A the price difference between the two bikes is only 100 USD, I figure that the savings is from not having the panner rack installation points on the rear fender.

    Another great video Trevor, thanks for that. I am looking to upgrade from my one cylinder Classic 350 to one of the 650s. I think that the Super Meteor is probably not for me because of the cruiser position. So it would be a choice between the Interceptor, Continental (although slightly sporty / forward posture) or maybe this new Shotgun. When you confirmed that it is not a bobber, that makes the bike seem more appealing to me. But one of the main reasons for me to upgrade from 350 to 650 would be for better long distance touring. And the big question is how to accommodate luggage without totally ruining the bike's appearance? Removing the pillion seat improves the look of the Classic 350 and the Shotgun too. But how to add a rear rack for a dry bag (my preference rather than side bags) without destroying that prominent rear mudguard appearance.
    Can it be done, I wonder?

    Got to sit on a Shotgun at the local dealer yesterday. First impression was: this is a very small bike. It felt diminutive for my old 6’ frame. Very nice switch gear. You may have mentioned this in your review but I was surprised at how stiff the seat is. Didn’t really feel terrible, but it’s probably the hardest motorcycle seat. I’ve experienced in my 50 years of riding motorcycles.

    • @Teacher-T-Thailand

      Yes it’s hard, but absorbs the bumps from the road very well being a floating seat, Unlike the Meteor 650 where it’s a soft seat, but you feel every bump. One thing I did forget to mention was the small foot pegs. Robbed directly from the Hunter. Too small for that bike in my opinion. Which probably gave you the impression it was a small bike. The Meteor is more relaxed.

    That return to stressed member construction is a huge mistake.The new Himalayan stressed member frame is failing .Jeez all it takes is to put the damn bolt on lower frame rails but Noooo they had to screw things up. You don't dare bolt a sidecar on it. Meanwhile my cheaper lighter more sporty Interceptor is scrambled and has had a sidecar since 800 miles.18,000 miles later it is going strong.

      Ha ha. A good question. At 56 years young, I’ve now evolved to be a cruiser rider. In my younger years, yes I would have swapped. But now approaching my free bus pass, no. I’m happy with my meteor 650 now I have at long last solved the comfort issues. 🙏

    How did you feel tired on your arms after 1 hour of driving..this is not a continental gt650, you should be able to drive it all day long without feeling anything related to arms at all..either you have problems some with your arms in general or you were sitting in a position that doesn't fit you..the sit is long enough for all size of people to find the right position

      Bearing in mind I was comparing the bike to my Super Meteor 650. Because the rake on the Shotgun is steeper, the handle bars are just that fraction further away. And therefore leaning further forward than my Meteor. I’m used to riding bikes for 10 hours straight thank you 🙏

I have no idea what category to put it in really, as you say not a bobber. Yes it is a heavy bike. And a 650 for a beginner is a big leap of faith. You are much better off with a 350 for a while until you build your confidence and ability. 350 will be lighter, lower and more economical. As well as cheaper to insure 🙏

    I'm gonna bet it's fine for in-city driving on near perfect pavement. Bad/broken pavement will probably beat your kidneys out and hitting highway speeds on the highway will be uncomfortable after the first few miles. Too light, and unprotected, for highway travel. Budget brakes and suspension.

    • @Teacher-T-Thailand
      @Teacher-T-Thailand  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Too light?! Not at all. At 240kg it’s a heavy bike. And suspension worked a lot better on the Shotgun, because the floating seat also help soften the ride. All was good.

    It looks to me that you can lower the seat mount to get the bobber feel, but not sure how it would affect your reach to the handlebar and how 'destructive' the modification needed will be. (it would also lose the spring effect)

      @Teacher-T-Thailand  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Nope. A Bobber is a bike stripped of its unessential parts to make it lighter, and lower seated. The Shotgun is far from light or low seared. It has a bobber look. But not the feel. Still a nice bike though. 🙏
