- Brooks Falls in Katmai National Park is a wildlife photography DREAM. As a professional wildlife photographer, I love locations that maximize my time and help ensure or even guarantee success. Alaska is truly a haven for wilderness, and Katmai is the crown jewel of it all.
Scroll forward to 06:15 to try your reflexes out on a jumping fish and see if you're fast enough to get the shot.

Were you able to pause the video at 6:15 and catch the salmon before it was in the bears' mouth??
Nope. And I tried several times. My pause button doesn’t shoot at 30 frames like your A1 👍🏻🤣🤣🤣
@@mountains_and_moors Haha but keep in mind the A1 only STARTS that 30 fps when you push the button. If you were too slow here, then you're too slow with the camera also. l
No matter how many times I tried, I couldn’t catch the salmon!
Got it twice from like 10+ tries!
Excellent video! Thank you. That photo is amazing. You captured the eyes of all four bears along with a perfect reflection in the water. Very impressive.
Yeah, okay 🥺🥺 I’m not crying, you’re crying. This is so good
We can all crying
What a great video! They have really upgraded things at Brooks. When we went in 2008 they still had the floating bridge, it truly is an exceptional place.
This is seriously so good!! Can't wait to see you keep going with the new videos!
I'm so glad I was able to share this beautiful video with my sister.
Loved the video and the storytelling! Such a beautiful story!
Beautiful 😍 --what a blessed life you have...thanks for sharing this.💖🙏🏽
Love the video! Im so happy for you to have an amazing experience with your family❤
What an awesome video Nate and what a place tbh. Looking forward to more videos like this!
Stunning production
Wow great video! We got to see a lot of bears but were a little early to get the classic catching fish shot
LOVE this video. All the feels! 🥰
Thank you for this amazingly exciting video....
Wonderful! Am certainly adding Brooks Camp to my bucket list to visit
You should rename this video to “greatest lighting on bears you’ll ever see” haha. Awesome video buddy, i’ll be waiting for your next one!
Thanks for the great vid! Well done! Always great to be transported back to Brooks and relive my unforgettable two days there. Can’t wait to be back in Alaska for my 2nd trip up north for a cruise in a few weeks…this time chasing black bears.
I love this content. Thanks for taking us along with you!
Thank you so much!
this is sooo good! baby nate pics ftw haha
You teased that this would be a different video for you. And if this is different than different is GREAT. Loved learning a bit more about why Alaska is special for you and really enjoyed all the bear footage. One of my favorite animals and tops on the list of those I still want to see in the wild. This was a real treat.
omfg you've never seen one in the wild?!?! Pick a week next summer and let's check that bucket list OFF girl
@@Nateinthewild Ugh. I know. I have regrets.
That was AMAZING!!! So cool that your parents got to go back with you this time.
Thanks buddy! It was a trip to remember for sure.
Such a great film! Thank you for sharing
well done very very done video and great experience with the fam.
Fantastic images and a great commentary on what is most important in life. Always inspiring, too!
Appreciate you!
Incredible video Nate!! Absolutely love the bear shot at 9:21 :) Also I don't ever see you as an accountant... NateInTheIRS doesn't have the same ring to it... lol
This was awesome dude. More of these!
Thanks brotha! Much more fun (and like 10x the work) of a gear review, this is what I want to be doing from now on.
Absolutely amazing! I'm loving your new style. Keep it up Nate. You are a legend in the game!
Thank you, Todd, really appreciate the support! I'd much rather be sharing my adventures and beautiful wilderness areas rather than technical gear reviews ❤
Absolutely amazing 😮❤
Great video by ya NITW...ive bean Watching the Mike fitz...katmai bear videos for the past couple of weeks..I acctually ,know ,by looking ,at some of the bears..128/ grazer/ 32 chunk / ofc 747/ ofc grazer gets the praise , butt..I think seeing bear 68 and 503 ,2 male bears, that they have video of thoze 2 as cubs playing together..now there both male adults and still get along great, which is rare , like grazer ,bein a tough as nails female. 68 and 503 ,just like to hang out still...Nice photos..peace
This was beautiful and I am now crying.
GOOD 😉
This video is amazing and now I'm going to try to win this brown bear lottery for next year 😂
You are so lucky to see 747! Did you see 480 Otis? I’m thinking the mom and 3 coy may have been 901 and her coy. Thank you for sharing this beautiful video!❤
This was so cool Nate!
Great Video!!! Thanks for sharing
Fantastic!
Great shots :) I got permits in 2020, but covid ruined it. I just got permits this morning for July 12-15 this year. So excited :)
What's your favorite National Park in the US that I should check out next??
Glacier National Park is really beautiful
Isle Royale NP in Michigan’s UP is tiny but so special.
This is on the top of my bucket list. You made it seem even more magical!
Loved everything about this video man! Feels like the one I have been waiting for! I bet your parents had the best time ever with you! Was great meeting them a few years back at RG!
This is beautiful, the photos and places and feelings you convey are nothing short of amazing!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful memories with your family and those bear shots were superb. My back aches just thinking about carrying that 400mm lens 😉🤜🏻
Bravo Nate!! Bravo!!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Such a beautiful video and story. I started following you in 2017 and love all of your photography and content. Thank you so much for sharing your photos, videos and experiences. You are doing exactly what you were born to do and you’re totally killing it. Sending love and best wishes from Eugene, OR. 💕
Thank you so much for supporting for so long! You've seen me come a long way in those years haha
Absolutely stunning work! We love your storytelling and your wonderful footage of your bear encounters. We're looking forward to seeing more of your adventures 😊
Maybe we'll have to collaborate on something in the future! I think I may have mentioned that I have a bit of fondness for trips to Alaska ;)
Awesome Discovery Channel
Really loved this kind of storytelling! It looks and sounds like an amazing place. It's awesome how you're able to capture and translate your enthousiasm and love for nature. Keep up the good work!
This footage is insane! Bear clip at 10:20! Shoutout to jetblue's wifi for allowing me to watch it in all its glory right now. Definitely inspired to get my folks out on a trip soon.
Outstanding footage and story! Got some bucket list shots for sure! One question on the bears along the path: what do you do when they are there, just stay back and wait for them to pass? And is it dangerous?
Very memorable. Born and raised in Kodiak, Alaska. I’ve always enjoyed playing in the woods growing up but never appreciating it until I returned home in 2016. It is where I started my photography. 😊 such a great video! It’s up with the Aurora video you made. I wonder if anyone found the lost a7siii yet. ☺️
MAN, what is it like being from Kodiak? I've never visited the island itself but I've been to lots of sparsely populated places in Alaska and I always wonder what it's like to live there full time.
@@Nateinthewild it’s a great place. if I had a choice and my girlfriend didn’t mind the cold. I would move back and watch my son grow up there. I learned a lot about photography from wildlife, sealife, astro (milky way & auroras), landscapes and harborscape (not much a cityscape but the harbor can be pretty. Haha). You should check it out one day though.
is that your girlfriend or sister at the last picture ? just interested, either way extreemly happy for you and the time spent with the close ones !
That's my girlfriend Autumn that I mention in the beginning of the video :)
lol this whole vid was awesome but my fav was the audience interactive segment. Sure did NOT get any airborne salmon
Lol yeah it's FRICKIN' hard, right? I wanted people to appreciate my 2,000 bad photos before they appreciate the like 4 good ones haha
Amazing footage! Can you let me know which month did you go? I am debating going in July vs September.
This was in July
What month and days were you there? I plan on getting a Brooks River permit and taking my waders. Looking for photography tips and locations to access the river ... any river access trails near Riffles platform? I am aware of the 100 yards exclusion zone around Brooks Falls.
I’m going to Alaska on 9/3, in just a few more days. Are the planes still operational at this time of the year?
hold down the shutter
You still have to start pressing the shutter before the fish is in the bear’s mouth. You can’t just hold it down the entire day.
