    I made this as a full beanie hat and it turned out beautifully! I used a chunky yarn and 60 stitches.
    Thank you for teaching this stitch in your great tutorial.

    Very good instructions . I understood all of it. Been crocheting since I was 12 and I'm sixty now. There are some people who don't give good instructions. But you did! Thanks

    I have listened to many messy bun hat tutorials. I liked your tutorial the best so far. I also liked the variations you gave to try at the end. i have 11 grandchildren and they all want one of these. It will be nice to make a different one for each one of them. Thanks so much. I look forward to watching more of your tutorials in the future.

    I absolutely love your video and completed my first messy bun hat using your video and regular 100% acrylic yarn. I love the waffle stitch and intend to use it on my second messy bun hat. My first hat was made with a "cherrycola" colored yarn and my next one will be a pink camo colored yarn. Thank you for explaining this pattern so well. Your video shows and explains each stitch every step of the way.

    I like alot of the messy bun hats but don't have long hair so I will close the top. Will it makes a big difference on how it will come out if I do that?

    • @KikiCrochet
      @KikiCrochet  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hello, Philomena! No, it' will not make a big differnce. Before you start making your decrease in the end, make sure that the hat is one or two centimeters shorter than the total length the you prefer it, then start making the row with decrease, then make a row with on sc in every st, then work another row where you crochet together 2 sc everytime, then a row with one sc in every st and keep doing that up until the top closes up, if you're left with 4 or 6 st in the end just sew it to close it up.

  • @Deb0424
    @Deb0424 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Kiki, If I wanted to make this a regular beanie, not a messy bun one, how would I do the top so it's closed?

    • @KikiCrochet
      @KikiCrochet  8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hello, Deb! In order to make a regular beanie, keep working the waffle stitch up until you reach 21cm. Then, to start working decreases, see how I just crochet on every front post double crochet? You're going to do that, but you're going to be working 2 stitches together, and instead of having 24dc in the row of decreases as I did, you're going to have 12, then work a row of sc with one st in every st, the work a row of sc decreases where you crochet two sc together. Now you'll have 6st left, sew the rest of it to close up the hole, and you can add a pom pom if you'd like in the end!

    Can a regular -ply yarn be used as a substitute for the yarn you are using? If not the 4-ply substitute, can a wool blend be okay?

    • @KikiCrochet
      @KikiCrochet  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, Martha. I'd say that you can use any yarn that you prefer, although the thicker the yarn is, you'll have a better result of the waffle stitch. The yarn I'm using has wool in it as well.

    • @KikiCrochet

      You mean the way I have the thread between my fingers on the left hand, or the way I use the crochet hook?? My grandmother was my teacher when I was young, she was very clear that this way would be the one that would help work my projects easier and with less stress on my hands and fingers. Never changed it ever since!! :D

    You mention that the top of the stitch is to the left. I’m confused because I always learned that the top of the stitch is to the right. Am I wrong?

    • @KikiCrochet
      @KikiCrochet  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It depends on how you crochet. If you turn your work in every row to work on the opposite direction, it's on the left, if you work in the round without turning your work, then it's on the right. ❤

    Καλησπέρα από Ναύπακτο! Θα ήθελα να μου πεις πως θα τελείωνα τον σκούφο λίγο διαφορετικά γιατί δεν μου αρέσει το αποτέλεσμα στο πίσω μέρος. Μου μοιάζει σαν πιατάκι του καφέ!χχχχαχχα! Είμαι στο σημείο που αρχισες μονο τα front posts για μείωση. Τί διαφορετικό θα μπορουσα να κάνω? Επισης το κασκόλ που θα πλεξω να το κανω με το ίδιο βελονάκι? Χρησιμοποίησα Νο 6.Σε ζάλισα!

      Καλημερα, Ντινα! Δυστυχως δεν εχω καποιο αλλο τροπο να κλεισεις το πλεκτο, ετσι πρεπει να γινουν οι μειωσεις για να συνεχισει να φαινεται το σχεδιο. Αυτο που θα μπορουσες να κανεις ειναι μειωσεις με αριχτα αλλα κατα τη γνωμη μου δεν θα ηταν καθολου ομορφο, γιατι ενω μεχρι ενος σημειου θα φαινοταν η πλεξη βαφλα, μετα θα φαινοταν οτι ισιωνει απο πισω. Οσο για το κασκολ, μπορεις να το πλεξεις κι αυτο με 6 νουμερο, ναι! :)

    is this bulky yarn or worsted weight??

    • @KikiCrochet
      @KikiCrochet  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd say that's it's between medium weight and bulky, because although I made it with a 5mm crochet hook, you can work it with a 6mm as well. Hope I helped!

    How to make child hat like this???

    • @KikiCrochet
      @KikiCrochet  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello, Margaret! Make the band (the first part) about 5cm smaller than the kids head circumferance, but make sure you have the correct amount of stitches for the multiple, so the waffle stitch is going to be created correctly in the next rows. Then to close it up, start working your decrease row at about 3cm before the hats total length.
