Happy to help! They are great plants but can be a bit tricky when small!

Nice to see a new expert so I’ve subscribed . I lost two schefflera within the first month due to rot. And eventually got a refund on both , I bought. A newly planted. Plug plant. And will now change is black compost for a free draining one . Thanks for the advice .

Hi Gordon, thanks for your comment, glad the video helped. I made it because what happened to you has happened to a lot of people. Drainage is the key, going into winter it will be fine outside, but protect from hard frosts that might freeze the pot
Once it's big enough, get it in the ground, far easier from that point

I have just found this, and am so glad to know there are more from Monton - where we lived years ago. So I know tthe soil, the climate and the whole area. That you are growing these exiting plants there staggers me - it really does. Many thanks.

Wendy, thanks for your comment, I’ve been in Monton since the 80’s and growing these plants for over 30 years
It’s probably changed a lot since you were here!

Yes, there had been some beautiful houses and gardens - my lovely old school Monton House had a huge garden - but all went.

Great collection of schefflera plants on the fridge racks. I got lucky as bunged my plug Taiwaniani in a raised bed up here in the North East after moving it 3 times. It has rightly sulked but starting to put on some size, similar to your potted one. With the mild winters it has survived without protection so far🤞

My long term plan is to do with Schefflera what you have done with palms, but I got the palms as well, got plenty of room!

I really like the look of this plant. Had one make it to about 10ft , but a winter down to 4f killed it down about halfway and the next winter ( also 4f low) took it out completely . I will plant a couple more this Spring and hope that the next couple of winters are more in line with what Z8 is supposed to be

Apologies for last reply, drainage is the key as I mentioned in the video
They can be slow to start
      How’s it doing now?

Peat based, do not use peat free
I also mix in plenty of perlite
