    OK look when the first final boss you ever fight is a clown and then you go watch Digimon and the super ultra mega forms of the protagonists' partners who have never lost a straight fight before are one-shot by an evil clown who laughs at them and turns them all into keychains it changes your brain chemistry forever. And then you go "ok I think I will be fine as long as the next anime my child brain is exposed to doesn't have a fabulously foppish villain who uses cartoon antics to humiliate his opponents disguising a sinister undertone. Oh hey what's this Yu-Gi-Oh show?"
    But sincerely, thank you for watching. It's been really enjoyable seeing sincere reactions not just to STUFF I DID for the sake of my hyper-inflated ego, but to a series I do hold really dear. Thank you for really putting in a sincere investment toward all this stuff, even my silly clown monster lad. Lemme know if there's anything I can do for ya any time!

    Another thing about Marx’s appearance in Star Allies, the Japanese pause screen descriptions of him actually state that he’s there helping Kirby just because he recognizes that Void Termina is too much of a threat, and wants to put a stop to it just so it can’t ruin his fun as he spreads mischief across the galaxy. He teams up with Kirby because he knows he’s a strong ally and has learned not to mess with him after Super Star.
    Although, interestingly, I’d say that there’s likely a part of Marx that actually enjoys having a team of friends in Star Allies, as a few collectible illustrations in the game show him actually having fun and frolicking with Kirby and friends. I mean, I’m sure causing mischievous pranks however he wants is his top priority, since Star Allies also makes it clear that he’s a loose canon that can go off at any moment, but who knows, maybe he learned that having friends to engage in mischief with is better than doing it alone.
    It’s this small, added layer of depth that makes Marx endearing while still being really creepy, unhinged, and super entertaining all the same. 💜

    The cutscene of Marx crashing into the Nova and exploding was a MASSIVE meme in the Japanese Kirby fandom that eventually made its way overseas semi recently. I can't really say why it's funny to me but it is. I think part of it might be the face Nova makes as he explodes, and also the music that plays.
    Marx's betrayal of Kirby feels so much more personal than any other foe Kirby's fought, if there's any time in Kirby's life where he's expressed real anger it would probably be during their fight. Nobody does it like Marx.
    I remember when Smash Ultimate dropped I think he was the only boss in the game that was kept secret up until release, I can't remember if I found out about him being in the game through the internet or if it was me seeing him first hand but I definently gasped I was so excited but also a little sad cuz I wanted him playable lol. Kirby is due for another playable character in Smash for sure, Marx and Bandee being probably the most likely two. Seeing how creepy Marx is in Ultimate, definently makes me wonder what exactly was too far for the age rating...

    10:00 Regarding Magolor, he's the second villain in the series to befriend Kirby to get him to do his bidding and then betray him. In fact, there's a good possibility that Magolor's plan was inspired by Marx's in-universe, as Magolor mentions having met someone who fought with Kirby in the past. Magolor tricked Kirby into defeating Landia, the four-headed dragon guardian of the Master Crown, so that Magolor could use its ultimate power to rule the universe. However, Magolor actually grew attached to Kirby, King Dedede, Bandana Dee, and even Meta Knight through the course of the game, and regarded them as his friends after he was freed from the Crown's influence.
    Magolor was corrupted by an evil force, and eventually got a redemption arc (RPGMonger's Kirby lore video briefly mentioned that Magolor started building amusement parks, and that was all we had for a while, but in the recent remake of Kirby's Return to Dreamland, there's a whole mode set after the events of the main story where you play as Magolor journeying through space hell and eventually destroy the Master Crown for good), but Marx still remains a psychotic evil gremlin, and as far as we know, there wasn't any evil force corrupting him, he was just insane and power-hungry, and honestly, I like that. The fact that he's just evil without a tragic backstory or any involvement with a being of darkness is kind of unique in the Kirby universe.

  • @richietribe9487
    @richietribe9487 หลายเดือนก่อน +41

    Another interesting aspect. When Magolor, the other betray villain, survives his ordeal with Kirby, he goes right for a redemption arc. He destroys the remains of the Crown that drove him mad and creates an amusement park. It's even speculated that the crown's very presence was the thing that drove Magolor to betrayal. But when Marx got his second chance, he went straight for round 2 in trying to defeat Kirby like the little turd he is.

    • @GameofMatias
      @GameofMatias หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      And then in his third chance he doesn’t even becomes good, he is just helping because of Kirby or someone else giving him food(in the English translation) or because if Void is freed he couldn’t have fun doing everyones lives horrible(in the original version in Japanese)

    A fun detail: Marx's name in Japan is "Maaku," or Mark, a foreign, American, harsh-sounding name that doesn't immediately imply cuteness... kinda like Kirby's name! In fact, that's part of why Kirby's name stuck out in Japan.
    I wouldn't be surprised if Mark's name was chosen to parallel Kirby in that regard.

    Marx has (and still kinda is) my favorite Kirby character. He’s an evil gremlin and I love him. He may not be all that deep but he’s enjoyable to watch. (And this is coming from someone who usually doesn’t enjoy “evil for evil’s sake” characters.)

    Something the video doesn't say: his theme is insane, the melody is good but when you try to sing along, you can't at first, because the rhythm is different every time, goes from 3/4 to 7/4, 5/4, is super difficult to memorize but the song plays so naturally that just confuses more on "how can they do this?", please, go listen, both Super Star and Smash versions of the song, is super cool.

    You know, based on some of the main characters' personalities and motivations, I feel like the people of Dream Land (or at least, the more significant or "main" characters, or maybe even just the more significant natives of Pop Star) represent their own "dreams" of sorts-in the sense of aspirations, goals, wishes, etc.
    The dream Kirby represents is one of simple enjoyment-good friends, good food, peaceful sleepy time, and stopping any bad guys from being mean to his friends-maybe even making them his friends afterwards! It's pure, simple, and good.
    King Dedede? It's fame, baby. The authority, status, and wealth that comes from being the King of Dream Land. His fights with Kirby (when not possessed) take place in an arena with people cheering (or just Bandana Dee), where people can see him challenge the most powerful pink puffball that ever existed-and where does he continue to fight against Kirby when not possessed? That's right-public tournaments. Even his 30-year character arc doesn't really disprove this-while he certainly desires to be a better king for his people, what does he gain out of this? Not just respect, but adoration from his subjects. He gains fame from noble actions, and the undying loyalty of the Waddle Dees, of course.
    Meta Knight? Well, as explained in RPG Monger's lore videos, he most of all wants to test his might against worthy foes-The wish he made in Meta Knightmare Ultra was to fight "the strongest warrior in the galaxy", after all. I wouldn't be surprised if his goal of starting a war to get Dream Land to be less lazy was mostly an attempt to see if it would create worthy war heroes to challenge. You could then say that his dream is of "proving his own worth".
    And Bandana Dee? It'd be easy to call his dream "to stand amongst the best of Dream Land"-and you'd certainly be right about that. But I think that at its core, his dream can better be described as being one of hard work-that, as long as you work hard and keep at it (and drink your apple juice), your efforts can pay off-you can go from the weakest of the weak to someone who can take on godlike foes and win.
    Marx? Well, you *could* describe his dream as being one of power. But I think a better way to describe it is *mischief*. Above all, what Marx wants to do is fuck around and never find out. Considering that in Star Allies, there are illustrations of him legitimately enjoying the company of Kirby and friends, he probably doesn't cause problems out of spite (okay, well, not ENTIRELY out of spite), more so because he enjoys dicking around. Sure, he wants power, but not to destroy anything or cause the end times-he wants to make as much mischief as possible, as he says himself. Ruling over Pop Star is only to facilitate that goal. It's a dream of not needing to care about the consequences of your actions. I'd say that it'd be totally in character for Marx to act on every impulsive thought that poofs into his little gremlin mind. In a way, his dream is as simple as Kirby's, just in the opposite direction. And he's so much fun to watch because of it.

    Marx may be more surface level, but his fight is very memorable. From his blood red “up next” sign 15:33 (which is not normal btw Hal added extra spice) to his boss attacks. Marx to me has the second most disturbing attacks in Kirby, which is an achievement. Marx callously rips his own body in half to attack you and has a ton of high damage run killer attacks. Keep in mind, you have to fight every boss in the true arena to get to Marx soul again if you die. Your nerves are shot and Marx soul has 2-3 moves that will pretty much end your run just by cleaving away most of your health. Most final bosses have one large, well telegraphed attack with that kind of damage. Marx at minimum as 2. His attacks are nonsensical and almost whimsical, his design feels like a warped Kirby, and his music is crazy good. Marx isn’t a lore heavy character, but damn if he doesn’t leave an impression. Not to mention his scream, Marx’s soul scream was the Haltmann scream before Haltmann one upped him.

    in most well written stories, either the villian simply underestimated their oponent, or their supper attack has a huge drawback that requires their oponent to be soffened up enough for it to be the final attack. an execution attack, if you will.
