A humorous look at recording sessions for Siamese Dream featuring the original line-up of the band and infamous producer, Butch Vig! Siamese Dream's 15th anniversary was July 27, 2008
They knew cause Jimmy was already not showing up for sessions because of his dope habit, and Iha and Darcy had broken up, so you have a bit of a Fleetwood Mac "Rumors" vibe there. Also Darcy had begun to enjoy her coke. So I think they laughed because they could feel the vibe.
As the Soma solo weeps like a dying angel who just became a demon before death, making it lost to the abyss.. And laments it's existance, wishing it had never been born, as the only thing left for its soul is the perpetual, scorching fires of HELL. That's what it sounds like to me anyways haha...
Siamese Dream, best album. Mellon Collie immediately after. What could have been if Jimmy had been able to contribute to Adore? I'll always wonder. I'm happy that Billy is still putting out new music. Truly Happy for him. Keep it up, Billy!
Guitar geeks, that sunburst he's playing there is almost certainly the one that was sprayed silver and became the "Bat Strat" for the SD and MCIS tours. Awesome.
Yeah, it’s the Bat Strat alright. He used it to do most of his rhythm parts, whereas the black and red Strat was used for most of the clean parts and solos
i remember when smashing pumpking sold their gear on ebay. I looked for they Digitech Valve Fx preamp with all the original presets that they used in siamese dream , it was sold for about 700 usd. Other gear that i rememeber were some drum's pieces
I saw the pumpkins on lollapalooza in 94 and loved hearing Gish and Siamese Dream! Both records are pure HEAVEN! Billy, James, Darcy, and Jimmy doesn’t get better than that! I’m not gonna lie: I REALLY MISS DARCY BEING IN THIS BAND 💔
Same part where he got two subpar players rich and famous while he did most of the work. Jimmy was disappearing for days strung out on dope so that was their way of getting back at him. But yeah, he is the only other worthy member. Darcy and Iha are window dressing and they got a free ride. Poor babies.
I don't blame him for doing that many takes, if you were a drummer you would understand. The guitar riff in that song is so ambiguous I'd have no idea what to play if someone came to me with that riff
that's what Tom is saying. I know this is old and all, but notice how he mentioned the suicidal lyrics you just told him about? then he said "think again"?
This is such a great video! A visual time-capsule of the pumpkins creating one of their legendary albums (and the most important thing, just to see Billy with a full head of hair!)
@@rileyjohnson2138 apparently it was a DIFFERENT sitar. They couldn't get the case open, so they borrowed one from some band called The Swimming Pool Q's sitar.
wait jimmy's actually clean and not wasted out of his mind and james and darcy are actually playing? this is not how i pictured the recording of this album
the pumpkins in the 90's were an era that can NOT be beaten by ANYTHING!! i would spend a million bucks (not that i have them :)) to experience the same 90's again :)
This is one of the best things on the Vieuphoria DVD. "We just think it's really cool to show people that we have a sitar. In fact, it's cool we can't get it open!"
Take track 1 and record a four count click right after a huge start to a part, flip tape over and you have that click on track 24. Press record on track 23 and after the the four count from track 24, smash a cymbal. Flip tape over and now you have reverse cymbal hit leading into the part on track two.
Butch Vig actually told billy that james and darcy werent good enough and took too long to record their bits. Bit more backstory but thats the main case. billy may be a perfectionist but i doubt that much. if you have a dead line and a budget you gotta keep it.
@bigmuffexpress It's wierd they didn't have that on the extended version (The Unbearable Likeness of Manny). They just showed a short clip of that with "Today" playing in the background.
So far it's been 26 years. Why did you have it sealed for at least 15 years? How did you listen to it? Did you buy two copies? One to listen to and the other to keep sealed? A fan would have played it immediately, I suspect. I'm sure you have a reasonable explanation behind bragging about a record you bought with no intention of listening to it. I'm just curious as to what that explanation is.
yeah of course they did something, I just doubt there input, darcy especially made the final cut. but billy was just a maniac and would record like all 17 guitar overlays of Soma himself.
Well I have heard that Billy didn't like James and Darcys recordings on the Siamese dream and erased them and did it himself because he is a Perfectionist to the extreme obviously hah
Yeah he's a great musician, but when he tried to mostly produce it himself post Pumpkins 1.0, Zeitgeist happened. Best to stick with Kerry Brown or maybe even bring Flood back into the fold :)
After their tumultuous breakup, Courtney Love introduced her song, Violet, to a crowd and said that she put a hex on Billy, hence the reason why he lost his hair.
"Whatdyou think keeps a band together?" *the collective 94 SP lineup breaks into eerily foreshadowing laughter*
HAHAHA jesus christ man XD

I laughed to myself when Butch said that Siamese Dream is happy...
He meant the tone of the album. Not the lyrics.
As the Soma solo weeps like a dying angel who just became a demon before death, making it lost to the abyss.. And laments it's existance, wishing it had never been born, as the only thing left for its soul is the perpetual, scorching fires of HELL.

@@XChristianNoirX check out my cover of soma solo lol perfect description
Billy's grandma bought him the sweater and the haircut

Don't forget the album they released in between in 1994. Pisces Iscariot. if you are referring to studio albums only then you are correct.
What is your opinion on Adore? I feel like it was ahead of its time personally.
Guitar geeks, that sunburst he's playing there is almost certainly the one that was sprayed silver and became the "Bat Strat" for the SD and MCIS tours. Awesome.

2:16 MADE ME CRY OH MY GOD
i remember when smashing pumpking sold their gear on ebay. I looked for they Digitech Valve Fx preamp with all the original presets that they used in siamese dream , it was sold for about 700 usd. Other gear that i rememeber were some drum's pieces
Oh man whoever owns that is insanely lucky.
One of the best albums of all time... maybe even my # 1 lol
I was also there my friend. Tinley Park
Where's the part where Billy "Kubrick"Corgan records all the guitar and bass himself and makes Jimmy do 78 takes of "Cherub Rock?"
When the camera turns off
Same part where he got two subpar players rich and famous while he did most of the work. Jimmy was disappearing for days strung out on dope so that was their way of getting back at him. But yeah, he is the only other worthy member. Darcy and Iha are window dressing and they got a free ride. Poor babies.
And also makes Jimmy’s hands bleed as a result of him forcing him to do that.
I respect Corgan’s ambition from the 90s, but he was an asshole.
I read that's what Butch Vig forced him to do, the sound of the record was way important than band's recording of it
I don't blame him for doing that many takes, if you were a drummer you would understand. The guitar riff in that song is so ambiguous I'd have no idea what to play if someone came to me with that riff
best album in rock history.
Thank you!
the best album,
the best billy's look,
the best band members!
I love this. Thank you for uploading it. :-)
'There is a lot of happy songs' Soma, Spaceboy, Today (The suicidal lyrics), Disarm, Luna.... Think again
What the fuck mate, Today is about fucking suicide and Disarm is about a fucking wasted childhood, you are to be banned for yt
that's what Tom is saying. I know this is old and all, but notice how he mentioned the suicidal lyrics you just told him about? then he said "think again"?
Butch talk about the tone of the album, not about the lyrics.
Oh my god James' laugh. Precious baby.
This is such a great video! A visual time-capsule of the pumpkins creating one of their legendary albums (and the most important thing, just to see Billy with a full head of hair!)
Great upload. Thank you.
wow this is a blast from the past!! LOVE IT
Butch Vig probably has the most recognizable voice I've ever heard. Like the epitome of calm and control.
It’s a bit scary that we already celebrated the 30th birthday of this album.
I wish every tv reporter on television would sign of with " I gotta go now , bye. "
1:30 Jimmy with an ashtray on a cymbal stand. Fuckin legend...
Is that sitar responsible for the little noodle at the beginning of Hummer?
This nerd needs to know!
Probably not. I think they only used the sitar for the background melodies in Luna.
I thought the intro to Hummer was a backwards sitar recording. Could be wrong.
@@rileyjohnson2138 apparently it was a DIFFERENT sitar. They couldn't get the case open, so they borrowed one from some band called The Swimming Pool Q's sitar.
Man 1 "What do you think keeps a band together?" Man 2 "well it ain't Billy Corgan!" Man 1 "What do you think makes great music?" Man 2 "Billy Corgan"
brilliant song!
No tension there at all..nice ski sweater Bill although seeing this footage gives me chills all the same.
I lol'ed at the screaming mellotron and un-openable sitar case haha
woah the last question
happy b-day siamese dream !!
BUTCH!!!! I love you so much
hahahaha billy's face at 1:39 is the best thing i've ever seen... it brings much joy to everyone i know
wait jimmy's actually clean and not wasted out of his mind and james and darcy are actually playing? this is not how i pictured the recording of this album
for the camera, my friend...for the camera..
Billy carefully constructed the bands image.
Jimmy was there at some point to lay his tracks. Billy could have taken care of everything else.
@@kristopherryanwatson Even if Billy played a lot of the stuff in the studio they practiced like crazy collectively to perform the songs live.

DJ Mithril [Vermin80] pretty much impossible to reconstruct it now , having a lot of trouble trying to put that vibe into exceptable music now
I love siamesedream so much its my myspace url
How can one band be so infinitely amazing!
Cool man.
One of the best recording console ever made (albums too). I record on the same one, once you get used to it no other console will do.
Agreed
2:16 THAT LITERALLY JUST KILL ME HAHAHAHA

I can't believe its been 15 years....

sooooo awesome. why can't the pumpkins sound like they used to? =/
I hear those sessions were extremely tense.
I love the pumpkins they are one of my top 3 bands and always will be but what the fuck did i just watch xD
haha. d'arcy and james look all pissed.
I can't believe this was recorded in marietta lol

ah I forgot about James' asian laugh at the end. excellent work!
it's so weird watching this now... awesome, though

"Get the fuck outta here!" .....and they all did...

Can someone tell me what he said, please? here 3:06 I'm brazilian, I don't understand very well
"What do you think keeps a band together?"
thanks

Why are Darcy and James there?
how'd he lose all that hair????
These are the sessions when Jimmy was so fucked up that Billy threatened to replace him with Butch, lol
Bi-phase !!! Wooo
Lol. billy has hair!
@darkshiningstar3 it's called sarcasm
"this album is has more happy songs on it" lol
3:09 I have the answer, it´s something that they don´t use now

Ah Yes the Original is the best sry to say nd at their BEST..SP ROCKS!!!
Yeah he's a great musician, but when he tried to mostly produce it himself post Pumpkins 1.0, Zeitgeist happened. Best to stick with Kerry Brown or maybe even bring Flood back into the fold :)
Zwans album also sounded like shit
He needs a strong visionary producer that knows how to work with him like Butch and Flood.
happier songs on Siamese Dream... holy shit i dont think so
james iha: haha u funny american
they barely did any work.... James worked on "Geek USA" alot, but billy and jimmy were awesome
How would you know? Were you there?
i think he uses a fender blender in bullet.
Butch wasn't joking about the bi-phase lol
After their tumultuous breakup, Courtney Love introduced her song, Violet, to a crowd and said that she put a hex on Billy, hence the reason why he lost his hair.
clownnookie i thought he said he did it to rid of vanity hmm
Daniel DeMayo He did, plus his hair was receding pretty rapidly = No vain comb over.
Lol knew it. Oh well il be a billy clone soon too...maybe that's what il tell people...I did it to rid of vanity heheh
Billy had a band named Hexum before the Smashing Pumpkins. No bullshit. Coincidence?
