Probably my favorite interview I’ve seen with Ben and Andrew. For the first time, it seems like the interviewer really gives a genuine attempt to understand them. Certainly, after watching this, I feel as though I learned more about MGMT than I ever did elsewhere. Ben and Andrew are just such amazing musicians, and their relationship seems so beautiful. I hope they never stop making music together. They are beyond anything in our generation, and I truly do admire them.
It’s like the interviewer knows that they’re actually smart people despite their relaxed affect and expects to have an intelligent conversation with them, and they totally meet him there
Hello Something I have been in search for quite sometime is a connection with somebody that goes beyond vanity. It's very hard to do in this day and age. People can be, somewhat very superficial. On my quest to achieve this I have learnt a lot about human nature. It seems to me that those who are not given traits such as beauty or being wealthy are some of the nicest, kindest and generous people. While the "gorgeous" and well off seem to be the most arrogant and greedy people out there. Of course that's not to say there aren't beautiful kind people out there. I've been in the process of change for a while now and I have made some decent changes but don't you just hate it when people can't let go of your past mistakes. I saw your profile and it intrigued me. I wanted to learn more about who you are and what type of path you would like on in life. Can we talk?
Why would that hurt Andrew's (or anyone's) feelings? Interviewer was giving them credit for hanging in there when they'd obviously rather be doing almost anything else.
in a way the interviewer was kind of intrusive and didn't seem to like andrew but the questions he asked were pretty good and you learned alot more about ben and andrew. Plus ben got to talk alot more which is refreshing since you never hear him talk. haha he's even shy at concerts when fans want to talk to him he hid behind the tour bus while andrew went out and said hi to everyone.
when i listened to congratulations for the first time, i was confused and was like wtf, and then went straight back to listen to it again! i love ben's comments. he's so smart. and nice seeing an interview, where ben is asked fairly the same amount of questions as andrew
25:02 they just have started, released 2 songs, and this aged like a fine wine, it is a couple of absolute bangers Plus little dark age was amazing So like Seeing this 11 years later is alien
i don't understand why everyone is saying that they seem angry and that the interviewer sucks. I think that this is a great interview. He brings up real questions, and they give no-bullshit answers. which is news
So nice to see them talk about their albumn, I will always love ngmt they will never change for me I love their music really spoke to me and very spiritually moving. I love listenening to oracular spectacular. Love them
They are changing peoples outlooks on life, and inspiring people to get into music they normally would not have ever listened to. The album makes everyone who listens all the way through feel like they have to throw up after one listen, more like the mushroom comedown weird negative but positive realization. But it needs to be listened to again, and again, and again
These people are first of all taking them too seriously (not just this interview) but Ben and Andrew are both pretty sarcastic and joking also they ask so much of them like you can tell they feel uncomfortable they just wanna make good music and have fun making it them don't are about "pop royalty" labels and stuff
Its not a double standard or a binary 0/1 thing y'know Theres nothing wrong with understanding and researching more about artists and their art I understand that there are some twisted ppl that get obsessed over it but, i mean, ppl get obsessed with videogames, doesn't mean its bad you know? I'm not trying to go to an argument or anything" i'm just saying Dont be shy by the size of this comment But like, how to disappear completely by radiohead, i heard that song and in the end i was "WOW" cuz it was very minimalistic and robotic up until it came up, then it comes as organic and as big as it sounds, so it was a good experience overall But then I saw about the true meaning of the song and the lyrics(that i first i didnt get) and now it hits me 1000% more than before so... Yea In a nutshell, its not a thing of "this is good and that is bad", its complicated
@@datavalisofficial8730 100% agree, analysis often makes me appreciate songs more, whether lyrical or musical or the making of the song. But not every song, of course.
Andrew's face at 25:26 pretty much summed up his feelings about the interview right there. I don't think MGMT is the kind of band who appreciates Q's style. He's very blunt and analytical, which is fantastic for bands who treat their music like a job (and I mean no foul saying that some do), but I could feel the resent starting to build in Andrew towards the end. They want people to enjoy their music and be happy that they care so much about the artistry of it. Ben's comments were beautiful.
Andrew: "I'd like a house on the beach, a dog, maybe a vegetable garden, these are my goals... and the human race, just going to the next level of consciousness." You might have jumped subjects a bit there Andrew, lol.
If I were a dude in a two-person band with Andrew VanWyngarden, there's no possible way that I would continue to be straight.
Madeleine Hapka this still holds up
PERIOD
underrated comment 🤣
lol he’s so attractive 😍
This a joke comment I hope 🤦🏽♂️
They seem like such great friends, they are so lucky to have each other.
I agree
Lol, I can feel their pain when the interviewer labeled their band "pop royalty".
And when he titled their 2nd album "Flash Delirium"
Mikeureko by “record”, he was referring to the single, not the album. oftentimes singles are called records !
@@addisonlively6286he said sophomore record, aka second album.

polydeism 7 years later and still true.
Ikr every other interviewer sounds like they were told they were going to interview mgmt tommorow and so they studied up overnight
It’s like the interviewer knows that they’re actually smart people despite their relaxed affect and expects to have an intelligent conversation with them, and they totally meet him there
i love how fucking sarcastic andrew is.
This was SO long ago. God damn.
Well God damn...
Well, yeah
he was paying attention, asking insightful questions trying to understand the guys and their music. It is refreshing. Props.
Dude i always knew MGMT was sick but as i got older i truly see now that they are masters at writing music and at playing their instruments
I love how absolutely down to earth they are

Lmao Andrew's southern accent 21:18. He's so funny
4:14 his look omg I died
Those eyes. They hypnotize me.
Andrew got a little heated at 21:33 "What it is commercial" lol
Andrew is so. fucking. beautiful.
andrews feelings got hurt when the interviewer said "and i know u dont love doing these interviews"...
"we love doing it with you."
Why would that hurt Andrew's (or anyone's) feelings? Interviewer was giving them credit for hanging in there when they'd obviously rather be doing almost anything else.

Andrew is beautiful uggh and weird but I love him
I love his eyebrow tic. its sooo cute
It's like he talks with his eyebrows
theyre so humble ! & andrew's face is just... enchanting jeez
This is definitely my favorite interview with MGMT. I love how weird they are but they also seem pretty down to earth
I love Andrew's random really smart moments

This interview, and the first one, are two of my favorite interviews ever! Watch them a few times every year! Just classic!
where did you find the first interview?
"its really just the power of thought" im crying. Andrew is hilarious
I have to say this guy is probably one of the best interviewers out there, he asks proper in depth questions without making it boring
So nice to see them talk about their albumn, I will always love ngmt they will never change for me I love their music really spoke to me and very spiritually moving. I love listenening to oracular spectacular. Love them
Congratulations is really good too if you haven't heard it
MGMT Records announced today
Justinmeatybonds so proud how far they’ve come

watching them talking makes me wanna cry. i love them so much. SO much.
There is no limit to the amount of how amazing they are. Hearing certain pieces of their thoughts fascinates me
"Double-ended eeldo" Oh my God, I can't even...
Rarely happens, but this band definitely changed my perspective on music/everything. For the better of course. So glad to have found them.
when you watch this long enough Ben and Andrew are like the awkward sons of this awkward man
This band is truly amazing
andrew's eyes
They're so awkward.

its all amazing.
In the beginning the guy calls their new album flash delirium smh
He said "Their sophomore record, Flash Delirium" dumbass
Ra Electrum Do you not know what "Sophomore record" means?
Ra Electrum You are so obviously wrong
Yeah why'd he do that?? hahaha yeesh
Kudos to them for just listening politely.
Well, they started their own record label, so thats awesome 🙃
Why the hell don't they have their own show by now.. MGMTTV?
Bek ItAllMakesSenseNow MGM tittie V

Awww they are precious and amazing💕💕 very talented guys
I AGREE !!! Both "Congratulations" & "Oracular Spectacular" have changed my outlook on life & LIFE ITSELF !!! AND TOTALLY FOR THE BETTER !!!
I couldn't agree with Andrew more: Stop over analyzing and just listen to the music.
I hate how everyone just tears apart songs.

You can tell Andrew loves the interviewers dude voice. Lil bit of eye talking going on too.
i am in love with andrew.
yet another great interview - i miss being able to listen to this every morning... so i'm pumped that these videos exist
God, I love their humility. Just artists :)
did anyone else notice that whenever ben answers a question he looks over at andres every now and again to see if he approves?
i really like this interviewer, he asks good questions and listens intently to what they have to say :)
i wanna be Andrews water bottle so fucking badly right now ughh

MGMT should never change whom they are and hopefully they will keep making music way into their 80's.🤗
not too many 1080p videos on youtube...respect
Oh those were different times ayy
Another reason why I like them
Amazing talented guys. When I get my castle I'm going to make sure it's near them.
I love them
They Like to be different, simple
That friggin' convertible comment was hysterical! Lmao. Gotta love their sarcastic and dry sense of humor. "We want that one." HAHAHAHAHA.

i like the look on andrew's face as the host introduces their sophomore album title as 'flash delirium' instead of 'congratulations' 0:27

i love how Andrew is really into beaches and dogs
Me talking to my therapist
This dude is a great interviewer. MGMT is just awsome

21:18, Andrew's southern accent.
I died and went to heaven.
Harry Styles will NEVER be as hot as Andrew
HAHAHHA looook at Andrew at 2:36
I LOve MGMT
such a great interviewer!
Andrew wasn't joking around when he said the world is operated by Freemasons. And I can tell it scares him as much as it does me.
haha i love when andrew says its a hyphenated modifier..
God I love their album Flash Delerium
The album is called Congratulations
The Tennessee accent was surprising. But you could tell for like five seconds, he was out of his element and sort of let it hang out.
6:47 says it all
