Great analysis. Covered many subtle aspects of the movie. Requesting you to analyse other Pickford's Movies during the twilight of her career, My Best Girl (1927), Coquette (1929) and Secrets (1933)
Hey, this is a really cool channel! Certainly niched, but a niche I really like. If you have not already, you should watch and make a video about Louis Feuillade's five Part Fantômas series. It is nice and exists here on TH-cam. The visual quality is also fantastic due to restoration!
That one is on my list! I’ve already checked out both Les Vampires and Judex. There is a full video for the later on the channel. Thanks for watching and welcome to the channel!
Wrong bud on one level but generally right on . Ms. Pickford's portrayal of Unity Blake and the no makeup, flattened greasy hair, cotton dresses, bent over gait, crooked smile looks nothing like Stella Maris. The title character is Pickford in all her curled, made up, expensively dressed glory. Many reviewers suggest that if you didn't know from the inter-titles it was Pickford in both roles you'd never realize it was the same actress. But you are entitled to dissent. We'll agree it was one of her best roles, or should I say two roles. We'll also agree it was one of Pickford's best departures from innocent child roles and the ending must have been shocking (Pre-Code of course) for 1918 audiences. One of the better silent films, and with the exception of some mugging and overacting by the actress who played the villainous alcoholic wife, very naturalistic playing by the other actors, particularly Conway Tearle as the strong masculine love interest of Pickford's characters.
Just a suggestion for a more professional and tighter production, and probably more subs. I think you should strive to avoid the very regular "You knows" and "Kindas", and also avoid stating that things are "creepy and gross" when the viewer ought to be given credit for deciding such things for themselves. Also, I'd get rid of clangers like "This being the 1918s" at 5:15 because it again smacks of amateurishness. You've got the foundations for good content, but the little details need tweaking. 9:05 I'm not sure how censorship stood in 1918, but in the 1920s things got pretty wild and risqué "Pre-Code."

I’ll add them to the list! Slowly making my way into the 20s but hoping to get to a lot more Pickford. Thanks for watching!
