Glad your polytunnel is doing well Danny! You’re right the weather has been so strange, having to worry about wind storms every winter feels like a new thing.
It's heart breaking to see the damage around the site, but i'm so glad you stood up to it well. I think we all need to adapt things for the future as i think this will become the norm now. The lives are fantastic and really do help us get through the winter 🥰
The guy next to me shed roof was taken off. luckily it didn't come my way and take out my tunnel. I spent a while up there like you making sure everything was by and not able to be floated around. my large tunnel I opened the doors because the windows were not able to be shut due to the roll down rotting. but it was able to blow through so no damage over the two days. Not everyone on site was so lucky damaged greenhouses tunnels and sheds. great update mate
I was thinking of you both (Tony & Danny) all weekend - with all my fingers and toes crossed. I’m in North Wiltshire (so yellow alert for us) and it was bad enough here… 60+mph winds. Like both of you I was up the allotment and in the garden before hand get everything storm ready. Up our allotment we had damage sheds blown down, fruit cages over etc.. but thankfully like you my Polytunnel was fine.. I was most concerned with this storm because of the wind direction..not the prevailing direction so it was hitting the plot at the most vulnerable side… so glad and relieved to hear both of your plots are relatively unscathed. Take care Deb
Great update Danny , pleased all is well with the plot excluding your archway but hopefully you can sort that out , these storms do appear to be getting worse and possibly more regular , keep up the good work mate
Hi Danny, so glad that all was OK at your plot, and your plot neighbours. It was very community spirited of you to secure things on some of the other plots as you went to check on Linda's and Cheryl's plots. A couple of years ago, we had a metal gazebo in the garden and took the cover off for the winter. The wind got up and tossed the frame across the garden. I appreciate all that you do to show us your plots, and would just like to say that when people say how lovely the plots are, they mean a variety of things... pretty, practical and above all, real. Have a good week ahead xx
Aww thanks Jean! I'm sure they'd do the same for me ❤️ thank you. Sometimes they look perfect and other times they don't. Life gets in the way and at this point in time. I've alot to do haha take care. Danny 🫶🌱
nice allotment community you have there looking out for your neighbors plots . Always enjoy your videos and helpful suggestions . Good no major damage on your plot .
You have shown just how important preparation is to prevent damage. I was surprised not to see other plot holders checking their plots, it is so sad to see breakages on big structures. Well done Danny.
That was a hell of a storm Danny, but your contingency plans worked a treat! I'm so glad you are all safe❤ and the damage to the plots was much less than feared. Phewwww...... Take care Annie 🐞 🐝 🌱
Glad you survived the storm pretty much unscathed. Excellent advert for First Polytunnels that it stood unscathed. Hope the weather gets a bit more settled now. Take care. Mags
Hi Danny, I had a look over my plot this morning, I live in North East and luckily there was no damage, big sigh of relief, I feel sorry for other allotmenteers who haven't been as fortunate, great update. Steve Colwell
I really love the shelf, i have asked my hubby to build something simular with wood and mesh for our polytunnel. Thanks for all the great ideas. Unfortunately, our allotment isnt as social as yours but I feel I can borrow a community feel from you and Linda..... so thank you.
You really do need one! They are a god send in spring to keep the pests off apologise to your husband for finding work for him 😂 I met a couple once who watch the channel. She loved me. He admitted he dreads hearing my voice as he knows work is coming his way 😂😂 well you're welcome to borrow linda! Haha
LOL...I can wait...go on.. Glad you came out OK from the storm. So nice of you to look out for your plot mates as well. Awesome live this past Thursday...such good fun! Thanks again for having me on.
Storms make you hold your breath when the garden structures are at risk. We get regular cracking storms during summer here in Queensland and the loss of plants you’ve cared for is so frustrating. As you say Danny, we can’t change the weather. I lost my first round of baby tomatoes to a 37 degree day and the air was so hot. The second batch are almost ready to plant out and look great but they’ll be late going in. So pleased your tunnel is ok, good on you for checking everyone else’s too ♥️♥️♥️
Fab video as always Danny! Glad your polytunnel stayed safe; we drove by our plot and saw our new shed roof felt had ripped off, some of the neighbour cages/structures had flown on to ours and my normal netting structures would need repairing but luckily the greenhouse was standing 🙏🏻 I cannot wait to see when you get to the log cabin/shed, it sounds dreamy!!!
Hey Danny, thankfully not loads of damage from Darragh we were the same in the North. A few bits blown about but thankfully my chickens were smart enough to stay inside. I do love the extra storm braces from first tunnels, I feel like they are a must have here in the North East.
A good repositioning of the chains Danny. You inspire so many people.❤ It was a really good Live wasn't it. So sorry the Feel Good Garden Café wasn't open but good job you bought a flask 👍😂 😂 😂 Hope you had more likes from you being cheeky 😂 So pleased you battened down the hatches 👍 Thanks for taking off the mad hatter's tea party weather vane.❤ Shame about your archway but I'm sure you'll do a good job if fixing it. Thanks for checking on our plot. Another fabulous video ❤
Thanks Linda. I'm glad you apologised for the lack of caffeine, it wasn't the same haha! Being cheeky always helps 😂 ill strengthen the archway though 😊🌱

Looking forward to seeing all your winter plans, especially the fancy shed, we've collected lots of windows to build a greenhouse so that should keep us busy this winter.
Your plot neighbours were very lucky to have you looking out for them, the greenhouse would probably not have survived, if you hadn't closed the window.
I know what you mean about severe weather. There's never just a rain shower, anymore. It's always a severe thunderstorm. We had 100km winds, yesterday, but no damage, thankfully. I always worry about my chickens, and their coops. We had a nice day today. No wind and nice and warm (for us) about 7 degrees C. Thanks for the update. 🙂
Hi Danny, I'm glad you didn't have too much damage. What a wonderful plot neighbour you are ❤❤. My strawberries plants have flowers, what the heck? 😊 Take care ❤❤❤
Thanks for showing us what you got to pre and during the storm!!! So glad you had minimal damage and you saved a few others from damage too. Had so much fun in the live and glad the power didn’t cut out for long . It’s Kerry’s supporters sniping your cables!! 😂😂😂 Stay safe and enjoy school 🏫 😂❤
These storms are getting worse. I feel for you. We had strong winds but I think 70mph here, 114mph is scary. How nice of you to go around and look for things on neighbouring plots. It does help. Good that the polytunnel had no damage
Always one eye on the weather, Danny. You can only mitigate so much. The rest is in the lap of the gardening gods. Truly amazing what takes flight during a storm. You were very considerate, closing that window. I cast an eye over our site when I was down there yesterday. Shame your archway took a hit. Take care, Elaine ⛄️🎄👍
So glad your tunnel survived Danny , Thurs night we were broken into and Fri & Sat the storm ,my shed on my 2nd plot collapsed and my friends shed rolled onto my plot , thankfully my new potting shed had just a damaged door , its been a hella in Cornwall gusting at 111 mph we're right on the coast on a hill with no shelter from wind coming straight off the sea. lots of poly tunnel damage on site , which has made me rethink my spring plan of getting one , I wouldnt sleep worrying ... but no one I know was hurt and things can be mended and replaced. roll on a decent day so we can get sorted and look forward to spring plans
Oh no way :( I am sorry to read this Lorraine! What bad luck you've had this week! I'm sure the first tunnels, polytunnels are built to last. The shetlands build polycrubs. If love one!
@@TheGrowUpChannel I agree your First tunnel will be strong and fine , I have looked at the Shetland ones hmmmm.. dunno might get another potting shed 🙂
Im glad you dodged a lot of the damage. I gained someone’s mangled poly tunnel that got wedged into my compost bays ☹️ My felt roof was ripped off and my guttering from my shed too…. My best cable ties failed me!😅 You’re so kind checking in on others plots 🥰
Hi Danny. Sounds like you have been lucky on your allotment site considering the wind. I lost a pane of glass out of my newly build glasshouse but luckily it didn't break so I could simply refit it in place. It is still really gusty here in Torbay. Let's hope it subsides soon. Stay safe. Haydn
I was looking at that thermos thinking blooming heck that thing is enormous!! Then you picked it up and it was normal size 😂😂 made me laugh so much 🙈🙈🤦♀️🤦♀️
Hi Danny, my archway has snapped on my plot too. So,I understand how you feel. Not sure how we are going to fix it but, its not the end of the world. My polytunnel was fine, other plot holders have had damage too. But not too bad, our site is windy anyway so, was expecting more damage but. Nature can be cruel. The weather has been awful lately. This week sunshine & freezing conditions all week, crazy weather for us all. Glad you haven't had too much damage. Stay safe thanks for sharing and take care 😊
Your right Danny storms are not only more frequent but definitely worse. I mean just look at the UK how many have gone through of late and each with it disaster in some part of the UK. Here it’s meant to be summer you’d never know it so Aus is not faring much better as far as weather changes are concerned I think the best advice is to be prepared before the change of each season No matter if a home garden or allotment.
Wow you couldnsee how strong the wind was when you walked to Lindas plot you could hear it 😳 and to move heavy pallets 😮 everyone needs a plot neighbour like you to kindly walk around and check everyones plots 🥰 glad your tunnel was ok and although the archway was over its goid it wasnt damaged 😊
Yes Gemma! While linda had breakfast in bed 😂😂 she's a Diva that one haha! Hopefully the storms are behind us now.. hoping to get some actual work done, if the weather allows me.
😂we had those winds last week and I have to go retrieve a plastic from a low tunnel I just had drying out. That flask looked giant on the shelf 😅 but not in your hand (camera 😉). I’m going to pop outside right now as we are having a temp rollercoaster again and hit 55.7 F Wow! From below zero windchill-big change. We never know what to think here either. Some crazies think the weather is controlled 🙄. We are experiencing the change back to La Niña jet stream but it’s a bit messed up. The last 2 years the cold weather temps are not steady and we have been Way too warm. Ok, back to finish vid. Got some leaves chopped and will finish tomorrow before temps dive again only to raise by weekend again. Lol, I had all the pots neatly put away and that high wind we had tossed them all about. What a nice neighbor to look after others 🤗. You shot this before Linda fixed her tunnel😅. Reminds me of coastal people getting ready before a hurricane. Whoa! That was some wind to whip pallets! 👀. We all seem to be getting stronger storms. It will be years before N. Carolina bounces back. I seen the flooding the last storm did over there. N. Carolina has mountains and when that water came roaring it carved out whole towns, and new paths. Now that we’ve had our first Ever tornado in February it won’t be long here again. Matter of fact it could happen anytime because I think February was the only month we never had tornadoes 😱. Nice vid and hope we don’t see more extreme weather.
Haha no I shot this after linda repaired her tunnel. If she hadn't have patched it up, she'd probably be a polytunnel down now. Her stitching was preparing for the storm. I hope it's the last of the storms for a while! I want to get so much done before spring!
You were very lucky last week I lost my Polly tunnel in storm Bert went over today to check far to bad to go yesterday and my greenhouse is totally wrecked I'm heartbroken tomorrow I start the big tidy up all the broken glass in beds it's soul destroying and like you said it's only the start but we must carry on and prey this is it need a calm dry week
For Polytunnel owners it's always a worry when there's an incoming storm, that Red Alert on the phone brought images of flying polytunnels to mind, same here, went to check and prep.
@@TheGrowUpChannel K eep an eye open on Tool station and Screwfix as they were doing black friday deals and clearances on steel bolts as you don't want to use bolts that rust the enamel paint on those birdies beds.
Hi Danny. Great to see how well the plot fared with storm Darragh. I wonder if you have day neutral strawberries? They're not reliant on daylight hours, but respond to a bit of warmth even in winter? In Auckland NZ, our strawberries can potentially fruit all year- pretty crazy! ? 🍓
Storm was horrendous glad not to much damage there 👍 , i'm minus a small netted tunnel found that mangled behind my shed , only got one side of my shed and a roof left but not worried about that it was coming down anyway, a crate off the next plot smashed a glass in my glass house and the icing on the cake doors blown back and front off my tunnel and the plastic all ripped back and front , battoned that down leaving the doors off now new cover in the spring 🙄 , going to have to work out i much polythene i need its 14ft wide 24ft long BUT it's high the sides are straight and 4ft 6 inch high i'm going to have to measure the height i'm sure it was 9ft high 🤔 not a clue how much to order , You did say to comment sorry it was a bit long 😂😂😂
Aww no!!!! That sounds terrible! Well I am glad you did comment as I can help with this dilemma.. if you measure the width and length and height and email first tunnels directly. They will work out the plastic amount you need. Hope this helps! Danny 🌱
@TheGrowUpChannel brilliant 👍 I've had it 15yr's been looking today to give them a ring and the company I got it from seems to have gone into liquidation "CITADEL" got to say it's been a Brilliant tunnel , thanks I do that 👍
@@TheGrowUpChannel I'll do that but probably after Christmas now as I'll only have it hanging about won't be going on until spring now when I round the troops up to do it which should be fun 🙄
@@TheGrowUpChannel the plastic felt out of ths squares on mine and polluted the soil so I'd never buy another one but if Linda bought the black water pipes to slide over the existing pipes it would make the frame strong enough for proper polytunnel covering.
Like you said Danny, it could have been a lot worse. Was the arch ok or was it totally broken? Did you have much flood damage or was it mainly wind? Glad to see you are safe though and very kind of you to check on other peoples plots. Glad Linda's wreath stayed up on her shed! This years weather has been crazy and i really do hope it settles down next year. Hope you have a much better week. Take care.
I have two friends in Dolgellau or just outside and run hotels and one was flooded they said it was awful storm glad it’s looking ok down at your plots 🥰
Climate change is here, unfortunately this extreme and unpredictable weather is going to be commonplace from now on. And us gardeners have a challenge ahead of us. Sorry for the doom and gloom comment . You were right to be cautious and batten down the hatches, sorry to see the arch down. But I’m sure you will soon sort that you are a resourceful person. Looking forward to seeing your new plans for the plots.
It's been wild in Whitby over the last 24 hours 🌬️🌧️ it's calming now hopefully I was in town yesterday afternoon but got home about half an hour before it got really rough out 😃 my shed door is hanging off 🙄 a trellis came down off the fence and my arch is swaying a bit 😮 no major damage tho can't wait for spring time 🌿🌷🌺🏵️🌼🌻🪻
I had some damage with one cold frame destroyed, my Brassicas have been snapped and shredded but it could have been worse And the worst storm we ever had was in 1987 as it caused far worse damage .

You were very considerate, closing that window. I cast an eye over our site when I was down there yesterday. Shame your archway took a hit. Take care, Elaine ⛄️🎄👍
Absolutely Elaine. The weather needs 2 eyes on it lately. The archway is intact, so I can strengthen it and it'll be out back up soon 😊
@lorrainereid5707 it's always a gamble isn't it 😵💫😵💫
Love watching your progress Danny ❤
Thanknyou Wendy! Means a lot 😊🌱
Im glad you dodged a lot of the damage. I gained someone’s mangled poly tunnel that got wedged into my compost bays ☹️
My felt roof was ripped off and my guttering from my shed too…. My best cable ties failed me!😅
You’re so kind checking in on others plots 🥰
Oh no!!! That's not good. Sometimes these things teach us a lesson.. i need to strengthen my arch for one. We shall rebuild...
Hi Danny. Sounds like you have been lucky on your allotment site considering the wind. I lost a pane of glass out of my newly build glasshouse but luckily it didn't break so I could simply refit it in place. It is still really gusty here in Torbay. Let's hope it subsides soon. Stay safe. Haydn
Oh, that is very lucky! Sometimes, that glass only needs to hit something on the wrong corner and boom. Glad it was okay :)
I was looking at that thermos thinking blooming heck that thing is enormous!! Then you picked it up and it was normal size 😂😂 made me laugh so much 🙈🙈🤦♀️🤦♀️
You're not the first person to comment that 😂😂😂😂😂
Hi from Norway.
Hello Norway! I'm planning a possible trip in January!!!
We are supposed to be having a better week, weatherwise.
I hope so Cheryl!
Oh sorry to hear that Christine! Yes nuture reminds us, we aren't in control here. Danny
Your right Danny storms are not only more frequent but definitely worse. I mean just look at the UK how many have gone through of late and each with it disaster in some part of the UK. Here it’s meant to be summer you’d never know it so Aus is not faring much better as far as weather changes are concerned
I think the best advice is to be prepared before the change of each season
No matter if a home garden or allotment.
You're right. We've had snow, floods and winds all within 3 weeks! Madness. Yes i agree the weather is very unpredictable now. 😔
God love you all that worry. Hope things turn out well.Stay safe and well 🙏 😮😮tfs sylvi
Thanks Sylvia. It'll all work out in the end, I'm sure 😊🫶🌱
Great video as usual. ❤️❤️
You're the best! Thanks Jean xx
@@TheGrowUpChannel hope all is well after the storms. ❤️❤️
I'd love an allotment on your site if I lived in wales as you & Linda are such lovely people. MERRY CHRISTMAS DANNY🎅🤶🧑🎄
Aww thanks Penny! You certainly hear us anyways 😂😂🫶
Haven't checked my plot yet we had the storm here as well
Oh wow. You have better restraint than me David 😂
Oh Danny, LIVE makes me feel like I'm eavesdropping on people in the coffee shop! LOL
HAHA! well you can eaves drop on me anytime Sylvie!
Merry Christmas from Rockford, IL
Oh wow! Thank you Pat 🏴 from Wales z
I get nervy enough with our winds... I don't envy the ones you have to deal with there.
Ahh it was horrific. I usually don't care as much, but that one made me nervous.
Oh, no way, ann! That's more than bad luck! I am sorry to hear you've had this amount of damage. Danny 🌱
Have a balcony on the log cabin and a jacuzzi for chillaxing 😁.
If only hey! You'd see linda all the time then 🤣
Hi Danny your visions are really good xxxxhave a good week xx🍁🍁🍁🍂🍂🍂🍂🌋🌋🌋
Vidiios xx🌾🌾
Thank you Susan 😊🌱🫶🛷🎄
Why thank you. Oh me too. Phew!
For Polytunnel owners it's always a worry when there's an incoming storm, that Red Alert on the phone brought images of flying polytunnels to mind, same here, went to check and prep.
As did mine. I was so worried and my phone kept buzzing warning me of the storm. Thankfully we got through it 🫶🌱
Hi Danny I have strawberries on my plants in the polytunnal..... very unexpected ❤
Hello! Funny isn't it. I took mine off, so it can save it's energy for spring 😊
Love watching your videos ❤
Why thanks marjory 😃🌱🫶
I would bold the Archway to birdies beds on each side and some additional supports.
Yeah I've ordered some bolts to attach it firmly. 😬
Oh wow. Do you know what, I've not heard of these! Strangely these strawberry plants haven't stopped producing flowers etc.. since spring. So maybe!
Storm was horrendous glad not to much damage there 👍 , i'm minus a small netted tunnel found that mangled behind my shed , only got one side of my shed and a roof left but not worried about that it was coming down anyway, a crate off the next plot smashed a glass in my glass house and the icing on the cake doors blown back and front off my tunnel and the plastic all ripped back and front , battoned that down leaving the doors off now new cover in the spring 🙄 , going to have to work out i much polythene i need its 14ft wide 24ft long BUT it's high the sides are straight and 4ft 6 inch high i'm going to have to measure the height i'm sure it was 9ft high 🤔 not a clue how much to order ,
You did say to comment sorry it was a bit long 😂😂😂
Aww no!!!! That sounds terrible! Well I am glad you did comment as I can help with this dilemma.. if you measure the width and length and height and email first tunnels directly. They will work out the plastic amount you need. Hope this helps! Danny 🌱
@TheGrowUpChannel brilliant 👍 I've had it 15yr's been looking today to give them a ring and the company I got it from seems to have gone into liquidation "CITADEL" got to say it's been a Brilliant tunnel , thanks I do that 👍
@elizabethjames1053 speak to matt! Tell him I sent you along! He will work out the cover size and price. They deliver usually the next day too !
@@TheGrowUpChannel I'll do that but probably after Christmas now as I'll only have it hanging about won't be going on until spring now when I round the troops up to do it which should be fun 🙄
Those blow away tunnels can be repaired by pushing the pipes into water pipes and some 4x 2 timber for some door way.
I've seen a few reinforce them. It's the covers that fail them eventually. Horrible:(
@@TheGrowUpChannel the plastic felt out of ths squares on mine and polluted the soil so I'd never buy another one but if Linda bought the black water pipes to slide over the existing pipes it would make the frame strong enough for proper polytunnel covering.
Everything looks good.
Thank you 😊🌱🫶
Merry Christmas
Danny from canada.❤
Thank you! Merry Xmas! From Wales 🏴
Take care.
Absolutely. Much worse. No the archway is still okay just needs to be reinforced. I have a plan.. don't I always haha..
Owmy that greenhouse is gone. Hate storms...
Oh no! The storms are getting worse and worse.
Leeks! 😁
I'll take that comment 😂🌱
You should be called the Wind warden 😁.
🤣🤣🤣
I have two friends in Dolgellau or just outside and run hotels and one was flooded they said it was awful storm glad it’s looking ok down at your plots 🥰
Oh no that's horrible! I was lucky. I really did worry about the tunnel.
You're brilliant 😁
Thank you so much 😊🌱
My tunnel not.. although it's been up for 30 plus years fingers crossed for you danny
Aww wow! 30 years ! I hope mine lasts that long. Danny
Glad the Polly tunnel survived
Oh you and me both Helen 🌱🫶
I lost my greenhouse and fruit cage in the storm. Mother nature definitely had a bee in her bonnet.
Oh no! That's horrific lynette 💔
You're funny Danny 😊 I hope you don't have serious damage from the storm ❤
Haha thanks Julie. I am daft. Lol
@TheGrowUpChannel Count me in too, if you can't be daft in life, then you're having no fun 😉😁
Good thing it wasn't worse. 💖
Absolutely 😊🌱
Good update Danny
Thank you Susie 😊🌱
Wow glad yall okay
Thank you Jessica! Terrible storms.
Love your videos ❤
Why thank you! 😀
Wasn't doom and gloom... more realistic. I like it. I shall put the arch back up. Not to worry ❤️
❤ Have a very Happy Christmas,❤
You too Judith 😊🎄
It's been wild in Whitby over the last 24 hours 🌬️🌧️ it's calming now hopefully I was in town yesterday afternoon but got home about half an hour before it got really rough out 😃 my shed door is hanging off 🙄 a trellis came down off the fence and my arch is swaying a bit 😮 no major damage tho can't wait for spring time 🌿🌷🌺🏵️🌼🌻🪻
Oh same! Yes incant wait for spring. The weather is a worry, as of late!
I had some damage with one cold frame destroyed, my Brassicas have been snapped and shredded but it could have been worse
And the worst storm we ever had was in 1987 as it caused far worse damage .
Oh wow! Sorry to hear that!
