Costa Rica may be more expensive but I think is way safer than the rest of Central America, also the fact that you can drink water safely from any tap is amazing.
    Great video.

      You are completely right...
I have traveled around Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and Panamá, you won't feel as safe as in Costa Rica in any of these other countries...

    • @KuromiDarklord

      Explanation:
Pacha is a strong sugar cane alcohol for really extreme people (or pretty much the 80% of the youth) and jet its an energy drink like redbull. So here its a common dank meme to say you are going to drink them mixed.
I have never drink alcohol in any form (im kinda straigh edge) but that mixing its just brutally insane.

Another Costa Rican here. Although it might be safer than other Central American countries, DO NOT let your guard down. Be clever, be safe. There IS a lot of crime (at least in San José downtown). Don’t take you phone out when walking down the street, don’t leave your stuff unattended, ever, don’t take your camera out in the city unless you are traveling with a bigger group, don’t walk alone at night, and just be overall careful.
Everything else in this video is pretty accurate and you will have fun,
Oh, and I wouldn’t pay in dollars. Changing your money to colones is better.
POPS rocks! Thank you for making this video!

    • @user-ADystop
      @user-ADystop 5 ปีที่แล้ว +20

I've been in Costa Rica many times and you're overreacting. "Don’t take you phone out when walking down the street" is not a true statement. Just be careful as anywhere in the world. And by the way, who goes to San Jose downtown? is the worst part of the country, don't even go there when you have the most beautiful country in the world to visit around.

Don't underestimate the distances in Costa Rica. (it looks so small on maps). Driving the 400 km from Pacific Coast to Atlantic Coast will take at least 8 hours.
The traffic (especially the huge American Trucks) is horrible. But it is a fantastic country with very friendly people.

I think it is better to take an Uber cause they already have a route indicated by Uber with the fastest way to get to your destination. The reason I say this is because taxis normally give some extra turns so that the price gets higher and you have to pay more. So like now the go to for me is Uber, but if you don't trust Uber a taxi is the safest option:) Btw thanks for visiting Costa Rica

@@joannrotenberry5855 yea that because the new big taxes that came with the new laws called IVA that adds 13% to a lot of services and products but anyway if you find the good place is gonna be cheap here just ask to the locals where they buy the most common products to save money in my experience I could recommend the Pali and some Chinese grocery stores but I the problem with the chinos is that they don't pay taxes so it doesn't help to the country. So go the most cheap super or grocery stores that are around you and don't pay anything with dollars because is a rip off. Stay away from the big restaurants because they're super expensive even for the rich people. The local sodas or Los mercados are a good affordable option.

San José is the worst place that we have
You'll only find pollution and people trying to rob you
The next time you come try to avoid San José, instead go to Guanacaste, Monteverde, Puntarenas or Limón
If you only want like warm weather don't even go to the central valley (San José, Cartago, Alajuela, Heredia)
Those places also have some cool stuff but not as cool as the others (some crazy waterfalls most of the time)

. It helps to know someone who lives there..was extremely glad I was hanging with locals and not at a resort with other americans ! Haha we stayed in samara and nicoya then took a truck up into the mountains drove thru a river and had lunch way up in the mountains at my friends godmothers house . It was a fully open dirt floor hut the food was amazing up innthe mountain.. people Re friendly I was there during festival .. there was a huge party in the streets all week.. highlight was the horse paprade!!! Suuuch a fun trip going back for two weeks next summer one week was waaay too short!

As a costa rican I also recommend that you should try not to expose that you are a tourist otherwise shop owners especially near coastal towns will rip you off shoving "gringo" prices up your ass. It is one of the only things I am really ashamed of my country. My other advice, get a loca friend to help you it is not that hard we are pretty friendly for the most part. Just have common sense like you would in any country and you should be allright

Hello! I noticed that some don't or otherwise do's apply mostly to the coastal regions (either Atlantic or Pacific) and the experience over the Atlantic side is quite different from what you get at any part of the country so if you come again I strongly recommend to visit that side which has strong carribean influence. Great video once again!

There are many eco-tourism options that let you experience the nature of Costa Rica without having to actively seek it out. Resorts are nice, but you can experience that virtually anywhere and they tend not to be too eco friendly. Locals really care about maintaining the natural beauty of their country, and I feel that tourists should respect that and travel responsibly :)

Dry bread, and instant milk are big in CR. So is no hot water in the residential areas. But I didn't mind it at all. Woltor is absolutely correct. Its a beautiful country. Every time I would come back to NY the bags under my eyes would be gone Id look younger my skin would be clear etc etc. The country has a de aging effect on you. Just look at the people they are on average very fit, attractive etc. Most of the food there comes from there. Check out the church in Cartago if your into that sort of thing. You might see a pilgrimage. and yes the water is probably safer then the water in the US

3:40 I agree about Costa Rica being relatively safe. The best man in my dad's wedding moved from Southern California to Costa Rica with his family 21 years ago in 1996 soon after his daughter was born and still lives there now. In the 21 years that the family has lived there neither he nor his wife or daughter have EVER experienced a robbery or any bad crime. The family visited us three years ago and I remember him saying that he felt more unsafe living and growing up in LA then he did in the years since moving to supposedly unsafe and "drug-crowded" Costa Rica.

Here's a funny fact, Costarricans choice for ice cream cones and milk shakes is Pops, as Mark said, but the choice for a bucket of ice cream to take home is Dos Pinos, which you can get almost is every grocery store (or Pulpería, as we call them). There are also lots of local Ice cream producers that you can also try.

There are a scarce amount of beaches where waters are really dangerous at ankle's deep. That can't be taken as almost all are dangerous. Some popular beaches here in CR doesn't have a humungous banner to alert swimmers of ripping currents and that is something that cannot be denied. Alerts of ripping currents are, I would say, kind of small and can be missed if you don't pay attention. Ask the locals if the beach you're going have ripping currents to watch for... "En guerra avisada, no muere soldado" which roughly translates to "On warned war, no soldier dies".
