I think Trevor is spot on with the grace period. I think within 10 years you can be like hey they won a chip and be happy but after 10 years you cant let the franchise and management off the hook because 15 years ago they won a championship
And no team should come close to that. Please stop the comparisons with Ohtani who is three tool player plus a pitcher. Soto hits and hits for power. Has a decent arm, but isn’t a good defender and doesn't run. Pujols and Miggy Cabrera tailed badly after age 32 or so, two of the greatest RH hitters of all time. Why would anyone think It'll be different with Soto. Anything north of 12 years and say $550m will result in a lousy back half of a contract.
Juan Soto is going to get a contract employing him until hes 39-40 and he just turned 26, He's one of the three best hitters in the world and has been since he was 19. Also “not one person in baseball” according to David Samson believes that Pujols is the age he claims. Soto will probably have an aging curve similar to Ortiz who was a great DH going into his later years.
How many pitchers with 2 tjs in 6 years would get over 250 mill? Ohtani got his deal mostly because he is the best hitter in the mlb , and because he sells tickets to multiple markets .
Tbh $650M+ seems crazy, but at 14+ years the AAV isn't ridiculous. Contracts are going to keep getting bigger and bigger + it's a given you're gonna get burned at the tail end of these 10+ year deals.
@fernandoposada5440 Don't really need to think much about that. Nationals don't even sniff the playoffs without Rendon, Turner, Strasburg and Scherzer. Pick two of them and they might not even win a playoff series. Ohtani had Trout and nobody else in Anaheim.
I’m a white Sox fan but I’m from Chicago and interact with plenty of cubs fans and it’s not that they don’t want them to be a winning team now of course they do but the memories of 2016 will carry on with them for their whole lives it means so much to this city
I'm not surprised that The Mets offered that amount of money, they usually do that to players who doesn't deserve that much at all, this could top all of the previous bad contracts they have done, Soto can't be worthy more than, 450-500 and i think is too much, but of course the Mets has to offer him that amount to a star, not a superstar, a simple star like Soto.
@@antonioduverge3558 The Mets bought top prospects with those deals. Incredible way to fix a farm system that the old owners left barren. And they were short deals. Not exactly Trea Turner..
Soto's fWAR and he is years from his prime. How do baseball "fans" not understand this is Ted Williams or Frank Thomas BEFORE their prime. Yeah 50 million a year sounds right
As a Giants fan, I couldn't agree more with Trev, I'm a few years past basking in the glory of 2010-2014. That window is definitely longer for a dynasty than a one-year WS winner though.
As a Dodger fan, I’m waiting for SF to be good again. 2010-2014 was a tough time for us, I want our rivals to be good again to show the world OUR dynasty. Plus the Padres are lame, they think they’re our rivals and we couldn’t care less about them.
Cubs fan, we are ready for the next one. 2016 was amazing and I'll treasure it forever but that core is gone and its time to get another. I do not want another drought.
Seriously we gotta start making some serious moves. I like the way our pitching was this season outside of the beginning where Alzolay was blowing save after save. But our offense completely died in the summer and pitching kept us in alot of those games. We need offense and we need it badly
660/14 is just 7Million more per year than Aaron Judge. Judge signed his deal at 30/31. Juan Soto is 26 and will be the entire 2025 season. It's not insane to think another team, including the Yankees, won't match that. (This also assumes its 14 years and not like, 10 lol)
Had the same thought. This “no way anybody comes close” take about that number (assuming the 14 years) really doesn’t add up. I think multiple teams would be willing to go 14/660
I've been saying 700/15 is realistic for a long time. I still think it is. Maybe a structure that increases the pay toward the back end. Not a crazy deferment like Ohtani, but increases over time. Dude's young enough to get a 15 year deal and he's just about to enter his peak.
I think the grace period is team-dependent, but it’s tied to your rivals. If the Giants consider the Dodgers their biggest rivals, then they can’t brag about those championships until they win another one. As soon as your rival wins a ring, any accolades in your past are history.
As a life long Cubs fan, I would love to see them win another but I never thought they'd win on to begin with so I'm still euphoric about 16 and if they never win another one I'd still be fine.
It is dependent on the franchise- as a cubs fan, I am very appreciative of 2016- it was life changing and I’m thankful to have had that knowing my diehard grandmother missed out on seeing her dream come true. About the Tyson vs Paul thing was people not caring about Tysons age gap... look at every fight Paul gets into... everytime people want him to get knocked out. Every single Jake Paul fight for all of time will be ppl saying he will get knocked out because people want to see him get knocked out lol.
I think the grace period is totally dependent on if the owners and GM are actually trying to put up a winning team or not. Like if the Mariners actually went out and got a huge free agent, I’d be okay with them getting into the playoffs and getting knocked out every year. But this baloney of them not making the playoffs in the last weekend of the season is just ridiculous. The cardinals front office is the same way too. They’ve kinda been exposed as frauds if I’m being honest

It's an investment where if you do things right, any team has a 100% guarantee that they'll get a full recoup on Juan Soto's contract, from jersey sales, DR business, etc. there's even a high chance they'll get a net positive return on the investment.
If ANYONE thinks that dumb card with Skenes' patch will fetch REMOTELY what the 50 HR ball will, you outta your cot damn mind. No way that card is really worth much at all. I'd take the season tickets if I was a Pirates fan and just sell it on ebay if not lol

They only needed 1 for the business model to work and now they're just fine being mediocre. Nothing will change until attendance suffers substantially.
Juan Soto should not pledge his allegiance to any team. Why should he? He should only take the highest AAV 1-3 year contracts and just play for whoever he wants to or whoever is the higest bidder. Play with all the best talent in the world. Why let one team own you for your whole career? Or even half of it? He's the kind of player who has the luxury, so he should take advantage of it.
@BKDBut that's the thing, Juan's too consistent and I think his injury risk is far lower than someone like Ohtani or most players. Sure, risk is there but. IMHO.
I am not gonna believe any rumors until it happens if I’m honest lol. I can’t wait for some free agents to sign I just need cheering up. Also Trev I totally disagree if the Mets ever win in my life I won’t care for a minimum 15/20 years lmao
Soto is gonna stay with the Yankees. He’s gonna take a little bit less money so the team can spend money on signing other players to make the team a lot better and make Soto happy He wants to win and it’s gonna be with the Yankees.
Bostons like hmmm 669 and you join our Dominican player all time greats list 🤷🏼♂️? But keep in mind Pedro alluded to using his own money if he needs to add more to the Sox.
All this for the Phillies to sign him!!! Yall don’t even know lol. He wants to play for his old hitting coach and teammates and Phillies owner gonna play him. Come back to this comment 🤪. And we’re signing Bregman and trading for Crochet.
Soto wants to stay on the East Coast, closer to home. He's already won a ring, so he'll prioritize money over everything. Also a talking point no one is bring up is that Lindor is from Puerto Rico, which is less than 100 miles from the D.R. Basically they're from the same area. Soto would also be the best player on the Mets and not be in Judges shadow. To many factors in favor for the Mets. The only chance the Yankees have to keep him is to match dollar for dollar
1st point seems valid. 2nd point your talking about ego. He might have that kinda ego or he might not. I still think your overall it’s dollar match or he goes is right but I don’t think it’s fair to say it’s cos he wants to be the top dog.
@garydagg9112 I don't think it's a major factor, just sort of an extra bonus along with the money. He doesn't seem like someone who would value that very highly. Sort of just a little bit of a incentive I guess
Bottom line, if he really wants to be a Yankee that’s where he ends up, if not then he goes where he goes for the extra excessive amount of money. Let’s see, $500 million vs $600??? Insanity!!
660 over 14 years averages out to ~$47M annual value (assuming no deferrals). That is not that absurd of number for a 26 year old of Soto's track record, especially if you're the Mets. Their owner was just okay with paying Scherzer and Verlander $43M annually EACH, at the SAME time. That backfired, but if you ask any Mets fan if they still believe the Mets should have a $40M caliber player on the roster every year for the next 14 years - they would almost all say yes. (It is *historically* rare that that player might be one like Soto.) I can't see the Mets at LEAST matching a potential higher offer.
30:30 if it was a similar story but with the astros and it was sitting with a taken megan thee stallion, i would say forfeiting half a million is worth that chance, but that's about the only woman in the world i would say that for. there are levels to this

If the mariners win a world series in my lifetime I wouldn't care if they won another. I just want one 😢
Shout out Iowa!!!!!!!!!!!
Of course his HR was against the padres... we just can't catch a break
660M over 16years for Soto isnt too crazy. 41.25M AAV
Signing "26" year old Soto, who is already a defensive liability at this age for 16 years and 660mil is absolutely ludicrous.
@@smcdonough1427Yeah ik what a steal
Stevie has to get to a # where Hal feels uncomfortable!!
Hello from Iowa!
Soto said he doesn't like deferred payments
All this for the Phillies to sign him!!! Yall don’t even know lol. He wants to play for his old hitting coach and teammates and Phillies owner gonna play him. Come back to this comment 🤪. And we’re signing Bregman and trading for Crochet.
And with all that will still lose to us in the NLDS again
660 is only the first mets offer
Tyson wasn't allowed too "upper cut" and it was long and boring! Not a Tyson style fight!
Just match the offer or offer more with alot of it deferred
I thought Soto was not going to take deferred money
Bottom line, if he really wants to be a Yankee that’s where he ends up, if not then he goes where he goes for the extra excessive amount of money. Let’s see, $500 million vs $600??? Insanity!!
To be fair, before and after Covid are like two different worlds now. So 2018 is too far ago.
It would be so much better if the Yankees had a bunch of Latino players. The Mets are going to spend every year and he will be a Met.
Yankees are a racist organization and don't have Latin players. They have a rule that they're cannot be more than 3 on the team at any given time
660. Mets can have him.
it was fixed. chris rose knows.
Jake is a gentleman he could have knock him out cuz 😮😮😮😮 all theatrics
No closed captioning?
Is going to be 770 for 14. Years
What's the tax bite playing half your games in NYC versus, e.g., Texas or Florida or Georgia? That's gotta be a chunk of change.
Not enough to make up for the fact that none of those teams could come even close to the contract
(It is *historically* rare that that player might be one like Soto.)
I can't see the Mets at LEAST matching a potential higher offer.
Not really
Damn even in sports there’s fake news lol
30:30 if it was a similar story but with the astros and it was sitting with a taken megan thee stallion, i would say forfeiting half a million is worth that chance, but that's about the only woman in the world i would say that for. there are levels to this
Stop picking on iowa i don't want no pirate card I'm a Reds fan and we have a Elly card just like it.
Tyson could have knocked Paul out in the first round... that would have cost him money.
12 years 600 red sox
Trevor needs some white balance or something. Also, is the framerate always garbage for any reason? I feel like that's an easy fix
The only people I trust less than your sources is you guys.
