Yes, I totally agree with you! Setting a budget is really good advice! I got my overgrown allotment in May, so I was behind the curve to start the season. Plus being a brand new gardener I am still learning on what to do, when, and how! 😂 So I went a bit mad on seeds, a new cheap polytunnel, tools, archway, shed etc etc. It all mounts up! I didn't write anything down on my expenses, but this year I have already got a diary of allotment expenses, and I'm going to weigh every bit of produce I make, just to see how my proper true season weighs up. I don't anticipate any returns for a few years, but in the meantime I'm growing organic vegetables and fruit for my very large family. Tilly ❤
@Tillysgardeningdiaries-i3y Hi Tilly, yes similar story to mine. It's all good fun though and lots of positives with an allotment. Even the failures can be positive. I tried potatoes in wood chips last year. Not great results but I'm going to have another go this year using part woodchips and some other ingredients. That might or might not work 🤔 there's a video on last years results on here. It was an early one before I worked out editing. Have a great weekend
@Art.of.allotments thankyou, my potatoes weren't that successful last year, I planted Charlotte's and something else, can't quite remember. But they didn't grow, weeds did.... And as I'm new to gardening I was watering the weeds 🤣🤣🤣.... Not one potatoe out of them, but I did get potatoes out of a supermarket potatoe that started chitting, so I planted that! As for editing, I'm new to having a channel, and getting my head around footage, and editing is a skill above me... But I will get there 🤗 Tilly
Hi, I have an allotment that I got last March. Mine is a half plot and it cost £15 for the year, I am getting the other half this year so I'll have a full plot to work on, loads more space! I have not tracked spending against what I've saved on veg and I don't think I am going to. I bought things last year like tools and a hose pipe but we got some old manure for free. All in all I know I haven't saved money but it is a great hobby and I love cooking and eating the stuff I grow. Having a lovely little plot in the summer is great as well isn't it? It will be nice to see how your allotment progresses. 👍
