You said it yourself, card cleaning (to the level of Kurt's Care, and WAY beyond) has been done forever, and many of them are in PSA Slabs since the day PSA opened. It should be very simple. You can do whatever the heck you want to a card, and if PSA does not detect anything, then that card is legit. Because if you can't detect the cleaning, then how do you know it was even cleaned?? That is why PSA looked like idiots when they deactivated those cards that they graded, only after they saw videos of the card being cleaned. Those cards legitimately passed the Grading process, and should never have been deactivated. The reality is that most people are not going to share that they cleaned their cards once the cards got graded, so for every 1 person that shared that they cleaned a card that got a higher grade, there are 1,000 others who just stay quiet as they admire their PSA 10s that they cleaned by soaking in cow urine. Bottomline is if a card "passes" grading, then that is all that should matter.
As a collector, I never really had a problem with “cleaning”. Altering yes. But cleaning to me is no different than owning a car or house, and cleaning it up before you sell it to possibly grab the most dollars for your investment. My problem lies in the hypocrisy of PSA’s original stance, essentially demonizing the process. And now it’s seemingly ok as long as you fork over the extra ducats to use their service. One other interesting long term effect of this should it carry over to cards (in my opinion) is the surplus of PSA 5-7’s it possibly creates. Because let’s be honest they’re not going to clean your cards and bump them to the 8-10 range because that jacks with pop counts. So if you have a mantle 5-7 which is a nice nice card, you may have a ton more company in the next 4-6 years. Great heads up video, thanks!!
Folks who complain about people cleaning (no chem) their own cards are the Karens of the hobby. The rule seemingly doesn’t exist in any other hobby. Interesting how PSA addressed the pressing issue but not the cleaning aspect.
Nobody gives a damn what anybody does to their pc cards. The problem people have are shady assholes soaking cards in Kurt's jizz and refusing to disclose to buyers.
I operate a comic cleaning and pressing company and i work for CGC for witnessing. Cgc pressing has its advantages in certain situations, Cgc has unmatched restoration removal, for example, but the level of detail and presonability you get from a 3rd party, imo, is more valuable, depending on the book you have and work you need done. Always go to a trusted source for your collectibles.
I'm not a comic collector so I could be misremembering it but I'm pretty sure they give you a scan of the pages (a digital copy if you will) that they take before they slab em
Just a matter of time before they include cards... spritz, polish and press for a few bucks... will free people to do it themselves, too... I thought the problem with the screw downs is that you can visually see the taper on the corners where they are squished -not that they were measurably bigger... Also, I disagree with just about all of PSAs weasel words and quite a bit of your take on cleaning: It's really a matter of degree where on the low end is pressing a comic book or wiping wax off the front surface of a vintage card(pretty near undetectable), and on the no-no end is trimming away material or adding color material to 'restore'... They are both paper collectibles and I think PSA has done card collectors a disservice by taking an untenable position on cards...
Preservation without additive is the key if you aren’t altering only using elements such as moisture in the air like a humidifier or pressing or distilled water cleaning kiddy crumbs off old Pokemon is and should be promoted microfiber alone is not enough in most cases
Say 1 1973 Nolan Ryan with light pencil price on card along with dirt and crime, you can use same technique for comics on the card, cards are smaller and danger of scrubbing out a piece of card while your cleaning is heightened
The card is your property. If you want to clean it than clean it. You pay PSA to receive a card in the mail, then grade whatever is submitted. Imagine if you tried cleaning a card and scratched the hell out of it. If there’s fingerprints or dirt or whatever on it it blows my mind for any entity to not allow you to prep it to be the best standard you can get it. The name of the game is literally grading the condition like what the hell can’t clean your card it’s not like your cutting/altering it or doing something extreme if you take your car to a car show and the judges choose a winner what if they were like your DQd you cleaned your car how dare you
I've never used anything but a microfiber and my breathe on a sports card. But I do think we will move more towards people being more liberal with what is accepted. Why wouldn't someone buff out a scratch on a modern card?

💯 agree. Cleaning with a cloth isn't altering. PSA has knowingly graded trimmed cards as authentic. Follow the $
As long as sellers refuse to disclose which cards have taken a chemical bath, it will never be accepted.

Know the comic world before freaking out people. Cards for now are different than comics. Freak out when you see them do it for cards.
💩 Nat Turner ALLOWS Card Cleaning. 💩 2023 Prizm Black Victor Wembanyama 1 of 1 - Kurt’s Card Care Allowed cleaning!!! 💩 🙌🏼
Wonder if PSA will press just once or do it until it’s done right? Doubtful, unless psa provides direct to cgc service why use them?

How do we find the best cleaning and pressing services?
Off topic, but I picked up a lot of comics, any info or videos you could point me at so I can see if they are worth grading or even worth anything raw
Just look up eBay sold listings
@NEO_Cards_Comics ok.. so just like cards.. thank you. I wasn't sure... What would be " major flaws" that I should be on the lookout for

Dry cleaning is basically just an eraser or absorbine
Saw this one coming
So are they gradin* comics too then?
Cleaning pressing comics is apples and oranges compared to card, pressing is nothing more than putting the right amount of weight with heat
Everyone better get comfortable with card cleaning.
