Good to know, thanks for this. Always been too scared to connect the two together due to the real tight fit and the other issues you have now explained 😁

    Interesting stuff.

When you say there's a tight fit, is the interface causing the Next PCB to flex in its case? I'd be concerned about this in case it damages the Next PCB.

Interesting, I have a non-functioning IF1 I might see if I can get it working. I see you're using an OSSC with your Next, I have tried with mine but find the different timings for different modes make it a bit of a pain. How do you handle it? I am connecting to my OSSC via VGA.

I use RGB from the Next, not VGA as my monitor doesn't present a good image over VGA.

Nice. I'm hoping there will be a boot menu solution to enable the interface rather than having to have a post-it on the monitor with the out commands on it 🤣
Also, with expansion devices being difficult to attach, would a solution be to chamfer the edge of the PCB slightly?

The main problem with fitting the IF1 is the bottom section of the IF1 that the Next will sit on. The gap between the IF1 base and the bottom of the IF1 connector is quite tight when lining up with the Next's edge connector when taking into account the bottom of the Next case in this area.
As per the original 48 and 128+ models, the case bottom protrudes fractionally below the edge connector when compared to the rest of the computer. In the Next this protrusion is greater. So what we're likely seeing is the IF1 connector is bending fractionally upwards, increasing the space between the IF1 base and connector and allowing it to fit. That it is much easier to fit on subsequent attempts backs this up although I haven't measured the gap before and after.
Still, I have two IF1's and have fitted them to two Next's and so far, nothing is damaged. I think that the majority of other peripherals don't have a requirement to fit underneath the computer and just simply hang off the back?

@@SpectrumNextStuff Thanks for explanation. I don't know of any other expansion device that actually was designed like that - at the time it was genius when paired with the 48K, also lifting it up like the feet on the + models, but maybe the real reason was they needed the PCB area and it was a solution to hide it under the computer somewhat.

@@TheOriginalCoda And the fact that you need to remove the securing screws from the IF1 as it would definitely not fit :) One thing missing from the Next I guess are these two screw holes.
