100% correct. With Tyreek running that route, Tua would have thrown it the first time instead of double clutching. It would not have been late or intercepted.

The Dolphins added more talent in the offseason so that should help them avoid situations like this in 2024.

Thanks for watching! Can the Dolphins use their personnel better in 2024? Let me know what you think in the comment section below.

I like your videos. You're darn right we have a personnel problem. The problem is only Jalen and Tyreek were fast enough and quick enough to get to the spot in 2.1 seconds. Tua has to double clutch or throw late we have a problem. The addition of OBJ, who can separate against man coverage will help. Jonnu Smith can also beat man and is a Y.A.C. machine. Mike knows what he is doing. With OBJ, Jonnu, Forreston,(they also love TE Hill) M. Washington, T. Washington, Ez-E and Achane training as a Wide receiver, look for a nearly unstoppable force in 2024. Barrios, I wouldn't buy a house in Miami just yet. Braxton, you may be the odd man out. Cracraft to practice squad/(coaching in his future?) I think they have an agreement with River to always have a job as long as Mike is the coach, the man is a coach on the field, also the best blocking WR on the team!

Thanks for the comment! I am going to take a close look at how well OBJ wins his WR reps playing on the outside because that will really unlock the offense. Jonnu does everything on film this offense wants and needs. This should be a truly exciting season.

Mostert and Waddle were both injured for this game, as were all 3 interior starting offensive linemen.
Achane and Tyreek can't play 100% of the offensive snapa, so when they needed to catch a breath that was literally all McDaniel had available to put on the field.
My guess is that's a large part of the reason McDaniel wanted to spend a 4th round pick on a 3rd 4.3 speed RB, and why Miami signed players known for great separation at WR3 and TE

Thanks for the comment. This is more about the Dolphins maximizing available talent than it is blaming McDaniel for players that were unavailable. He could have rotated his available talent better so that a threat is on the field at all times whenever possible.
But I agree, the Dolphins went out and got more talent on offense to fix the issue. Hopefully, it will be a non-issue in 2024.

@@MattNewton I understand what you're saying, but with Mostert and Waddle out, that left just Achane and Tyreek as the super explosive playmakers.
It wouldn't make sense to start Jeff Wilson over Achane when Tyreek is on the field just so that you can stagger snaps so that one of them is always on the field. It also wouldn't make sense to have those guys run slower to conserve energy. In both of those cases you'd be hampering the offense's ability to pressure defenses with multiple dangerous threats, which is the whole point of their offense.
The far bigger issue is the interior offensive line injuries. The offense as a whole was substantially less dangerous when they were out, and McDaniel resorted to a higher percentage of gimmicky run plays due to the inability to punish defenses with inside zone runs like he did in the beginning of the season.
If Miami's starting line played 18 games together like Buffalo did rather than their top 3 guys playing just two halves together all season, the personnel used on any one play wouldn't matter. All 5 RBs played decently when the line was healthier, and Tua had no issues spreading the ball around when his pocket time wasn't an atrocious 1.8/1.9/2.0 seconds like it was weeks 16-18

@@smudgeous4068 The injures took a toll on the entire team down the stretch and the offensive line was certainly no exception. It affected the entire offense. But there is a reason why coaches never use injuries as an excuse. Because everyone has to deal with them.
And I don't mean to change the subject (forgive me), but the defense was decimated as well losing Chubb, Phillips, Baker, Van Ginkel, Howard and others and they still performed admirably in the final two games of the season against Buffalo and Kansas City.
I believe Fangio did a better job with a decimated unit than McDaniel did with his. A coach may be dealing with injuries (it's a variable that's impossible to predict) but he has to give his remaining players the best opportunity to succeed.
In the playoff game, I believe the defense once again outperformed the offense and McDaniel got a lot of his guys back for that one. McDaniel has to do a better job across the board, but his use of personnel is a major one for me.
Again, the good thing is the Dolphins signed more playmakers this offseason so it shouldn't be a problem in 2024, I hope.

@@MattNewton I think the weather played a larger factor in defensive success for both teams in the wildcard game than you're crediting it. By the end of the game it was 50F "feels like" colder than 2022's wildcard game in Buffalo, which kicked off at 23F.
Mahomes was playing behind the #1 pass block win rate O-Line facing a squad starting old edge rushers off the street and a secondary missing half of its starters, yet had 1 incompletion fewer than Tua and posted a sub-85 passer rating.
Tua was facing the #2 defense featuring the league's best DT with multiple interior O-Line starters missing. KC didn't need to blitz to generate pressure so had more guys in coverage and did just fine against Miami's weakened run game. Achane had 9 yards on 6 carries with a long of 3. Mostert had a long of 8 but averaged 3 1/2 yards on his other 7 carries.
Much like Mahomes in the Super Bowl in Tampa, Miami needed the O-Line to be healthier to have any shot at competing in the game. Their best skill players were hampered by some combination of bad interior blocking, playing while banged up (Mostert + Waddle both played but were listed as questionable), and in extreme cold.

@@smudgeous4068 I can't discount the weather being a factor, but both teams played in the same conditions. The Dolphins often get favorable weather conditions (advantages in Sept/October) at home but I've yet to hear a team say, "we lost to the Dolphins because of the weather in Miami."
Speaking of Miami, the week 18 game vs the Bills was in Florida. That defense was heavily decimated. They lost additional players in the game. They forced multiple turnovers and even a late turnover on downs. But the offense couldn't come up with a crucial scoring drive in any of their 4th quarter possessions. I believe it's largely a coaching issue while I believe (I truly hate to put words in your mouth) you think it's an injury/player availability issue.
I get your perspective. But I think the coaching is the main culprit. Every time the offense fails (KC, Buffalo, Tenn, Balt) it's because of injuries along the o-line. If that's the case, they should have re-signed Robert Hunt and acquired better, more durable players along the interior o-line. It should have been an offseason priority. They didn't, so it suggests to me it's not a priority for them because they think they can coach around it because of McDaniel's scheme.
When KC lost that SB to SF, you know what they did? They made the o-line an offseason priority. And as you said, "Mahomes was playing behind the #1 pass block win rate." That suggests to me the KC coaching staff realized they could not overcome that obstacle and addressed it in the offseason. The Dolphins decided to add more weapons to work around the o-line. If that's their plan (a presumption, I know) they really have to own it if it is ineffective against quality defenses.

You picked a game where half the WR where hurt. Why not pick a game earlier in the season where he had all his weapons available.
