  • In this insightful episode of The Mindful Movement, host Les Raymond sits down with Anna Runkle, also known as "The Crappy Childhood Fairy." to explore how trauma, often rooted in childhood, shapes the nervous system and impacts both mental and physical health. Together, they unpack practical techniques for healing, including Anna’s twice-daily writing practice and emergency regulation strategies. Learn how to re-regulate your emotions, address emotional flashbacks, and take ownership of your healing journey. Whether you’re dealing with complex PTSD or simply looking to improve emotional resilience, this conversation is filled with valuable tools and wisdom.
    Key Takeaways:
The Mind-Body Connection: Trauma deeply impacts both mind and body, often manifesting as chronic stress or illness. Healing requires addressing the nervous system and emotional well-being in tandem.
Dysregulation from Trauma: Childhood trauma can leave lasting imprints on the nervous system, leading to emotional dysregulation and patterns of behavior that persist into adulthood.
Understanding Emotional Flashbacks: Emotional flashbacks are overwhelming feelings tied to early trauma. Recognizing them is key to re-regulating and moving past them.
The Healing Power of Writing: Anna emphasizes the importance of a daily writing practice, done twice a day. This practice helps clear out mental clutter, process emotional flashbacks, and reset the nervous system.
Emergency Regulation Techniques: In moments of intense emotional stress, simple techniques like immersing your hands in hot or cold water or taking a quick walk outside can help reset and re-regulate your nervous system.
Taking Ownership of Your Healing: True healing requires personal responsibility. By recognizing and managing emotional flashbacks, you can take control of your responses and maintain healthier relationships.

I immersed into the conversation and it made sense to me. I know quite a bit about childhood trauma but Anna's explanations reiterated and strengthened my beliefs. I could see myself in it with my own Complex PTSD. I will most likely purchase her book. Thank you.

A lot if of valueble information. For me I am full aware many years of talk therapy did not help internal intenalized panic attacks, I realize a meditative practice is the only way forward..

Thank you both. It’s appreciated in health care to specify Type 2 diabetes when discussing vs generic “Diabetes”. There are many children with Type 1 diabetes & the lack of specificity in public podcasts is dangerous, it’s harmful to understanding the differences & the critical needs.

Sorry to say no, but recreating what your childhood programmed you is 'normal' is the primary disconnect with what is truly viable or excellent. And why recovery is so hard, because even if you achieve success it doesn't FEEL it, it feels alien & wrong. And it's easy to fall back to the old ways, old places, old (types of) people.
But I feel mean to criticise since this lady seems to have been through a pinball machine of hell from one trauma to another. Makes my own train wreck seem peachy.
