German Navy Song “ Der Toten Erwachen “

- Originally a poem from the 1800s
Lyrics:
Wenn hoch vom Himmelsbogen
der Stern zum Meere licht,
dann singen alle Wogen
ein wunderbares Lied.
Das ist ein Lied, so traurig,
wir’s nie ein Mensch erdacht!
Am felsen tauscht es schaurig
in dunkle Mitternacht.
Die Wogen münschen leise
die Heimat sich zurück;
Sie singen eine Weise
von längstverlor‘nem Glück.
Vom Palmenlande klingen
der Worte viele drein;
Von Alpenhletschern singen
die Wogen aus dem Rhein.
Die Fischer in den Booten
vernehmen oft den Klang
und tief im Grund die Toten
erwachen heim Gefang.
Es wachen auf die Leichen,
wenn so die Welle spricht
die naffen Locken streifen
sie aus dem Angesicht.
Sie fleh’n zum Wogenschaume -
“O, unf’re Heimat grüß’!”.
Und lispeln wie in Träume:
“Wie war das Leben füß!”.
really good! only issue is is that i noticed some errors during the chorus part, when the subtitles came up in german. The most noticeable one was at the very end, "wie war das leben füß", which should be "wie war das leben *süß*" otherwise the subtitle meant "How sweet the feet of life", which is a tad wonky haha. good work still!
😢😢
I realized that I've been watching so many German marches that I could understand the titles in English in an instant lol. The dead awakens
Iconic much?
No no the words were flicking from German to English
For some reason, this song gives me an ultra-power vibe just hearing its beats.
God i love chords in this
Is this really sung by the German Navy? If it is then Germany's a bit more based than I've been giving them credit for!
This audio is sung by Wolfnacht, but the song is a navy poem from the 1800s.
Hello, my friend!
Such an incredibly beautiful song - May perennially live on Aryan Germanity!
Germans arent "Aryan" 😂
"Wie war das Leben füß!" :D
Füße 😍😍
Grandiosa canción.
Splendid ! Great march !
They did so much unrestricted submarine warfare to this song I'm sure
Thx for English subtitles
My goldfish is U-501 now
Gefang -> Gesang
this should not be an f but an s it looks like it in the old gothic text because in the middle or start of words a different kind of s was used that looked like an f without the line in the middle so in many cases it may have been mistaken for an s much like greek today were the use two differnt lower case 's'
Good eyes my friend, I think Id very much enjoy talking to you. Have a good day.
yes, it was called the long s if i recall correctly
Nah bro, you dont even credit the composer of the song.
GOT DAMN🥵
I as a mixed German am also Human. I hope one day you will see the heart and will of a human and not what lies outside of what they are not responsible of
Song kinda bangs, even if im a german anarcho-syndicalist antifascist person who does have no sympathy for right-wing or reactionary societies.
