- When he realises what he wants to do in the future, Alex Powell changes country, continent and life. We at The Pass met him last year at the Autodromo Nazionale Monza on the occasion of a Kateyama Test Day, an event that Alex attended to train at the wheel of a Formula 4 car with the Prema Racing team. Throughout our Track Talk, Alex talked about the sporting challenges and especially the psychological ones that characterised his path, emphasising the centrality of the mental aspect in motorsport and revealing some untold stories.
It is love at first sight between karting and the Jamaican born in 2007, and the relationship is strengthened by the passion passed on to him by father John. It is this same love that shapes his existence and leads him towards unforeseen successes, including the title of European vice champion in the premier class of single-speed karting, a historic first victory for Jamaica in a FIA Karting competition and entry into the Junior Programme of the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1 Team. From the Caribbean to Monza, from a car park in Trinidad and Tobago to the most prestigious racetracks on the planet, from a nation with minimal presence in motorsport to one of the most iconic brands in the automotive industry, always recalling his origins and finding in his roots an additional source of motivation, which Alex told us about.
Currently preparing for his first full season in single-seaters after making his debut in Formula 4 at the end of 2023, simultaneously with the conclusion of another excellent year in karting, enriched by victory in the Champions of the Future series, second place in the FIA Karting World Cup and another podium in the FIA Karting European Championship, Alex helps us to understand how being aware of having given your best and the resulting pride can count more than the final result.

Quando capisce cosa desidera fare in futuro, Alex Powell cambia paese, continente e vita. Noi di The Pass lo abbiamo incontrato l’anno scorso all’Autodromo Nazionale Monza in occasione di un Test Kateyama, evento al quale Alex era presente per allenarsi alla guida di una Formula 4 con il team Prema Racing. Nel corso della nostra Track Talk, Alex ha parlato delle sfide sportive e soprattutto di quelle psicologiche che hanno caratterizzato il suo percorso, enfatizzando la centralità dell’aspetto mentale nel motorsport e raccontandoci alcune storie inedite.

È questo stesso amore a plasmare la sua esistenza e a condurlo verso successi inattesi, tra cui il titolo di vicecampione europeo nella categoria regina del karting monomarcia, una prima vittoria storica per la Giamaica in una competizione targata FIA Karting e l’ingresso nel Programma Junior del team Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS F1. Dai Caraibi a Monza, da un parcheggio a Trinidad e Tobago alle piste più prestigiose del pianeta, da una nazione poco presente nel motorsport a uno dei marchi più iconici nel mondo dell’automobilismo, sempre richiamando le sue origini e trovando proprio nelle sue radici una fonte aggiuntiva di motivazione, di cui Alex ci ha parlato.
Attualmente impegnato nella preparazione della sua prima stagione completa con le monoposto dopo aver debuttato in Formula 4 alla fine del 2023, contemporaneamente con la conclusione di un’altra ottima annata nel karting, impreziosita dalla vittoria nella serie Champions of the Future, dal secondo posto nella FIA Karting World Cup e da un altro podio nel FIA Karting European Championship, Alex aiuta a capire quanto la consapevolezza di aver fatto del proprio meglio e la conseguente fierezza possano contare più del risultato finale.
