Thanks for this. I always like playing a disruptive kind of role when I play stealth but picking up infiltrator has been tricky, this is amazing stuff!
Very impressive knifing. I'll have to master that sort of accuracy too. As a side note, I always destroy light turrets by firing a single pistol round on them and knifing right after. Works like a charm.
So today I've tried to play INF the way you've shown. OH MY GOD IT BRINGS SO MUCH MORE FUN AND SATISFACTION THAN BLOWING UP THE GENERATOR. And makes you more useful, yeah, that too.
Another useful tip: If you don't want to shoot mini turrets a few times and not melee them in time to not take damage, a single shot from the silenced pistol with a melee strike will do the trick.
The damage is applied when your arm is stretched which makes a slight difference depending on your skin. The new skins have a smoother animation and therefor I feel they are easier to hit with. The angle for backstabbing is huge, try in target practice to get a feeling for it but 75° should be possible at least. Also: 1 melee swing deals damage to multiple targets in your range, so you can get a triplekill with one melee swing (quadras and maybe even ultrakills should be possible too)
@SamCampbellz the final upgrade for the "Close Combat" perk gives a +50% bonus when "backstabbing" (basically, hit them in the back with melee and you deal 50% more damage)
"Speaking of clearing, throw grenades on the point after someone else killed their generator. Remember, its not your job to kill the generator, even though it takes you less than 4 seconds to kill a level IV generator, solo."
Yea, definitely getting the sonic punch to deal with heavy classes. They drive me nutz >_< Also, he wasn't kidding about the timing.....good god it's hard. I come from playing Spy in TF2, and it's a huge adjustment for me.
perk recomendation ? I tend to use close combat & super heavy all the time, but I've been wondering if quick draw wasn't better. Also your opinion on sonic punch ? nice vid, I've been trying to play like that for a while and I needed some tips.
I'll answer your question. I think he is using "Close combat" lv 3, so he has +50% dammages on backstab, witch makes 1350 DMG. Personnaly, I think 'Sonic punch" is useless. If you've got 'Close combat', it will just become harder to attack the enemi twice.
Your core perks should be close combat (if you wanna melee) or safety third (if you're all grenades), than either quick draw, or something to help you survive for longer (in terms of grenade picks ups). The second slot has a bit more personal preference.
Sometimes you get lucky (if he got counter INF before and knew an INF was camping you can sometimes get a random kill), or if you listen I think you can hear the footsteps.
does a melee kill a medium armor class in 1 hit? you are insane with the INF, did you adjust your settings for smoother gameplay? I have a crappy computer and was wondering if you changed your settings to make the game run better.
Also, could you please make more of these guides for INF and kind of make an more updated guide as well as the pros and cons of each equip and maybe make loadouts to fit playstyles for with INF? Thanks A LOT in advance!
IF you combine Sonic punch and Reach (both maxed) you can steal the flag back easy if they they camp in the gen room or if you camp their stand. Sonic Punch is also good for putting a sticky on a heavy then melee him because it will keep the sticky from hitting you. If you use close combat you will one shot light and medium an 2 shot heavy. (most heavy wont move on the first hit anyway) i am not this guy but i hope it helps.
okay, so i know people have different playing styles, and im guessing smg is urs, but since u are such a pro infiltrator, id like to ask.. should i get thebackstab frist, or buy another weapon like the jackall or fusor?
Post update: Step 1: Buy Jackal Step 2: Go to genroom Step 3: SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM BASERAPE SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM Step 4: Announce your newfound "Skill" with immature taunt on kill.
You seem to have missed one of the inf's possible ctf roles. With the super heavy perk, the infiltrator makes a great heavy on the flag if he stays cloaked. Like an invisible brick wall.
Nice tutorial about melee, but infiltrator is about much more than just melee. You also have sticky grenades, which I consider one of the most useful items an infiltrator has. Infiltrators are also used mainly for going for the generator, because for most people its just too hard to knife all the time. But thanks for the information about turrets though! :)
@TheJackson889 you can always pause. there are posts on the forums outlining every role and what class fills it best. way too long for a youtube comment but heres the link. ho to the forums and under "competitive and esports" look for the "Guide to PUGs"
What is the actual "sweet spot" for backstabbing? From what I've seen the actual swing does nothing and it's more when the blade is finished its swing.
Hey but if you have a pack item like the one for Brute that converts damage to depleting energy rather than health...do I need to deploy that item for it to work?
The role I do as an inf is similar to your knifing, though I just suck at the knifing part. So I just body block him, and shoot him to death. I did get a couple mid air knifes though.
+1 so far my stealth hasnt kept me from dying yet, is there some secret to seeing someone that is stealthed? or some secret to making sure people dont see you?
ok i understand generator killing isnt his job, but it wouldnt hurt right? i always go for the gen first, and if no one is constantly repairing it or setting up other defenses i take out the turrets/radar and then clear enemies around the flag
The raider can't cloak... The raider can radar jam, which is not the same thing. As a raider, you've invisible to the radar, while the inf is invisible to everything...
i usually go to destroy generator and usually there are engineers and turets and i spend all sticky granades on turets so i cant destroy generator fast enought because engineer respawn and kill me or some other player come, so what you do in such situations?
My problem is I can be standing in the the middle of nowhere stealthed and they can still see me. I can be stealthed in our gen room and they can see me. It doesn't matter what I do, my stealth is total shit. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks for this. I always like playing a disruptive kind of role when I play stealth but picking up infiltrator has been tricky, this is amazing stuff!

Holy damn this guy has some skills with the knife, and great tips for INF. Liked.
nice work dude, as a pure pathfinder or HoF i loved this
Omfg this vid is so well done, best tips I've ever head! I APPERICATE IT A LOT DUDE! Love you, no homo.
@SamCampbellz the final upgrade for the "Close Combat" perk gives a +50% bonus when "backstabbing" (basically, hit them in the back with melee and you deal 50% more damage)
jackal, even though its totaly op and everyone will hate you for using it, the jackal
With the two sticky nades and the jackal this class is OP as shit.
Sonic Punch is good for forcing flag drops when an enemy is turtling and getting amusing kills in gen rooms with bottomless pits.
"Speaking of clearing, throw grenades on the point after someone else killed their generator. Remember, its not your job to kill the generator, even though it takes you less than 4 seconds to kill a level IV generator, solo."
You don't need to fear the heavys anymore! Shocklance(1400 backstab) plus instant knife = instand heavy kill.
if you fully upgrade it it does, look in the buttom on the upgrades.
Very comprehensive tutorial, thanks dude
Seeing you stand near your flag knifing flag rushers was one of the most troll things i've ever seen xD
Yea, definitely getting the sonic punch to deal with heavy classes. They drive me nutz >_<
Also, he wasn't kidding about the timing.....good god it's hard. I come from playing Spy in TF2, and it's a huge adjustment for me.
Seems like your melee is much farther reaching. I'm guessing the "close call" perk you mentioned does that, and it was removed from the game since.
perk recomendation ? I tend to use close combat & super heavy all the time, but I've been wondering if quick draw wasn't better.
Also your opinion on sonic punch ?

correction... this is him being a total boss while we watch in awe and try to learn :p
You're pretty damn good with melee, one question though, the 50% more melee damage perk, does it only count if you attack from behind?
Sometimes you get lucky (if he got counter INF before and knew an INF was camping you can sometimes get a random kill), or if you listen I think you can hear the footsteps.
This game is suprisingly balanced in comparison to for example CoD or Star Wars Battlefront 2
very nice, combine that with super heavy and the enemy cappers don't stand a chance.
Don't forget to bunny hop to not make noise
Also, 1 pistol shot and a melee is a light turret kill too
does a melee kill a medium armor class in 1 hit? you are insane with the INF, did you adjust your settings for smoother gameplay? I have a crappy computer and was wondering if you changed your settings to make the game run better.
I HAVE BEEN DOING EVERYTHING WRONG. very informative btw, now i know that mele is not an entierly useless thing.
Also, could you please make more of these guides for INF and kind of make an more updated guide as well as the pros and cons of each equip and maybe make loadouts to fit playstyles for with INF?
Thanks A LOT in advance!
There is a primary perk you can by for something around 18k that increases melee backstab damage, i think it's called close combat.
What are you talking about this game is perfectly balanced, here hold this stick while I get my titan launcher
Interesting stuff. Was wondering what perks you were running.
I was saving exp for raider but after i saw this video i got INF and i should thank you!!
okay, so i know people have different playing styles, and im guessing smg is urs, but since u are such a pro infiltrator, id like to ask.. should i get thebackstab frist, or buy another weapon like the jackall or fusor?
that "panic" thing got me a quadra-kill and a gener-hater.
Look at the last upgrade for Close Combat, +50% more melee damage dealt from behind.
also, do energy packs neeed to be deployed as well? for Soldier etc? In the same fashion?
If so when? when health or jetpack is low?
Cheerss
Matt
Post update:
Step 1:
Buy Jackal
Step 2:
Go to genroom
Step 3:
SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM BASERAPE SPAMSPAMSPAMSPAM
Step 4:
Announce your newfound "Skill" with immature taunt on kill.
Best guide EVER.
close combat last upgrade causes 50% more backstab damage, allowing you to oneshot mediums
Godness i hope i will not have to fight against you, the music goes very well with the moment ^^
This is a very awesome vid thank you it was very inspiring. now i know who to buy
upgrade the perk "close quarter" the last upgrade increases BACKSTAB damage by +50%
Wtf cause he make 1350 Dmg o_O!
U R the BEST ninja i´ve ever seen :P
Quick question, is the knife instant kill? Or just a huge amount of damage?
No this just looks that it hits at longer distance, the animation is a bit unsynchronised with hit so you need to start swing much earlier
Good video for showing how bad and inconsistent the melee is in this game.
@TheJackson889
you can always pause.
there are posts on the forums outlining every role and what class fills it best.
way too long for a youtube comment but heres the link.
ho to the forums and under "competitive and esports" look for the "Guide to PUGs"
Another tip: play with the "stealth spinfusor".
he is an invis knifer/heavy explosives expert+Hi-dmg pistol finisher if the target gets too far
just press the 'c' key
(this is how you activate turrets, forcefields and other things too)
Very well made video
I never thought inf could defend but now that I see a new way to play him
Ima have alot of fun >:D
He has the perk Close Combat on and fully upgraded it.
Amazing video, made me lol like crazy. Nice tips and great footage
when you were killing all those guys with your knife were you using the +50% melee damage perk or was that just unmodified melee attacks?
regarding the light D, why not use the super-heavy perk and kill them while body-blocking ?
What is the actual "sweet spot" for backstabbing? From what I've seen the actual swing does nothing and it's more when the blade is finished its swing.
What do you think about the new Spinfusor for the Infiltrator?
He bumped in to him + quick reaction to resistance/geometry that you know isn't there.
for the melee do you click a bit before or the attack is instantly
Hey, stupid question. Do you have to deploy the stealth pack to become invisible?
Or is this automatic?
Cheers.
What would you recommend doing for knife practice?
no stuff like regen packs always work, but packs like thrust or stealth you have to press c for.
But Close Combat reduces the damage received, not increases the damage dealt. Unless the tooltip is wrong.
Can you tell us what perks go with each position?
killing stealthed infiltrators with a stealthed infiltrator is the funnest thing to do...only have done it twice though
What Perks Do You Use For The Infiltrator??
since the raider can also cloak, what do you think is better the raider or the inf?
Hey but if you have a pack item like the one for Brute that converts damage to depleting energy rather than health...do I need to deploy that item for it to work?
Can you tell me what perks were you using please
wow some of your kill are awasome
Also, how do you increase your knife damage? Mine only does like 25% hp on a heavy.
It actually just takes one pistol shot and a knife to kill a light turret, for guys who don't use the rhino.
The role I do as an inf is similar to your knifing, though I just suck at the knifing part.
So I just body block him, and shoot him to death.
I did get a couple mid air knifes though.
This video is made back when melee had ridiculous range, most if these kills are not anymore pissible with exact same situations ;)
Can it be that knife got nefed since that? I feel like it has much less range now and i feel like the dmg is smaller too.
When you say use super heavy and close call, do you mean close combat?
I sir, applaud you.
Is the the infiltrator smg as bad as it seems or are there just tricks to it?
+1 so far my stealth hasnt kept me from dying yet, is there some secret to seeing someone that is stealthed? or some secret to making sure people dont see you?
ok i understand generator killing isnt his job, but it wouldnt hurt right? i always go for the gen first, and if no one is constantly repairing it or setting up other defenses i take out the turrets/radar and then clear enemies around the flag
The raider can't cloak... The raider can radar jam, which is not the same thing. As a raider, you've invisible to the radar, while the inf is invisible to everything...
Quick Question: That crosshair.......how do I gets it?
great video, it must have taken ages to get the melee down though.
when your defending the flag do you use super heavy?
How can you knife from those ranges?
hey, what perks you use?
i usually go to destroy generator and usually there are engineers and turets and i spend all sticky granades on turets so i cant destroy generator fast enought because engineer respawn and kill me or some other player come, so what you do in such situations?
So, simply you gave to knife your way through the enemy team?
im excited :D thx for the tutorial
Great use of INF, I don't use him much, maybe i'll give him a go....and you're not even using jackal
My problem is I can be standing in the the middle of nowhere stealthed and they can still see me. I can be stealthed in our gen room and they can see me. It doesn't matter what I do, my stealth is total shit. Am I doing something wrong?
im not saying this is corret, but may it be that you have to time it better?
Awesome video, you helped a lot buddy :)
Ok you have the longest sword ever on that game
