This is the first time I've heard the language of my grandmother spoken. It was stolen from her by a residential school, and she was stolen from us soon after giving birth to my mother.
    I must learn more.

Luiz Otavio De Moura Their languages sound like a combination of Arabic and maybe Native American. I find Aleutians interesting, but I'm a "Culture-Vulture." Very little is on the internet about Aleutians; I disappointed about that, but am glad there are some things.

I have never been to Alaska... are the young people from this and other tribes learning their tribal languages? Close to where I live here in Utah, the Paiute clan dialects are all dying out. Most of the speakers are in their 80s or 90s and they are few. The youth here have no interest in learning and propagating their languages. The Navajo are doing better, but their language is still dying out. Only of few of the young Navajo I know speak their language and they all live on the reservation

There are several programs and opportunities teaching the language in Kodiak. Unfortunate that placement programs and colonialism wiped out so much.

1.Aleuts are related to Inuit and Yupik. 2.There were a lot of Scandinavians who settled Alaska. 3.Many tribes don't have a blood quantum requirement--you can enroll if you are descended, no matter how many generations down, from someone of the tribe.
