Strolling around Narai-juku on the Nakasendo Road, where the old days remain

Nakasendo was the main highway that connected Edo (present-day Tokyo) and Kyoto during the Edo period, and is one of the five highways in Japan. Among them, there are many post towns, and Narai-juku is one of them. Narai-juku is located in what is now Ota City, Gunma Prefecture. As a post town on the Nakasendo, it was bustling with many travelers and merchants during the Edo period. Narai-juku is located in the middle of the uphill slope, and played an important role as a place for travelers to rest and stay when they got tired. The center of the post town was lined with post town honjin and inns, as well as shops and restaurants. Narai-juku is also known as a hot spring area and is surrounded by a beautiful natural environment. Travelers and locals were able to spend a relaxing time in the hot springs. Currently, preservation activities are being carried out to preserve the historical buildings and atmosphere of Narai-juku, and it is also a popular tourist destination. In addition, there are many post towns along the Nakasendo, including Narai-juku, where you can enjoy the scenery and atmosphere. As part of the Nakasendo, Narai-juku is visited by many people as a place where they can feel the history and culture of Japan.
