      Recruitment agents are the problem! They're commission-hungry and don't give a damn about the industry/industries they recruit for! They are, basically, the gatekeepers to [especially] a younger persons career. Not all, of course, but they judge you on word-searching software and will 'bin' your CV in a heartbeat if they can't get their percentage. I got my IT support job via a company that advertised via LinkedIn and said 'no agencies'. They had no shortage of applicants. I'm not a massive fan of LinkedIn as they have some 'money-chasing' aspects, also!

      If you have strong I.T background then I think I.T project management is fine, but I’ve worked with several tech project managers that aren’t experienced enough in I.T and it is brutal. To be a respected/successful PM or Director I strongly feel you need to be able to speak the same language as you’re team. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve worked with PM’s that just have no idea what I’m even saying and it doesn’t help the project at all. Especially if the project is outsourcing a lot of development. I’m not saying you need to be a full stack engineer but you should be able to get your hands dirty if you needed to so you know when people are bs’ing, etc..

    QA Engineer here, I would like to point out that our sector is turning heavily towards Test automation. Despite Manual always having a role within the testing processes.
    Test automation types:
    Code-less
    Coded
    I would advise any future testers to be open to learn to code. And be open towards technical testing such as API, accessibility and performance. Manual testing roles which require no additional skill do not have a good career prospect unless you enter Test Management/QA Coaching.

    • @Stephaniewashere5047

      I would like to become a QA Engineer but when I look up the process, most websites want you to have already had some experience in the field in order to take the test for certification. Is there a school or site that you would recommend for me to try so that I can take courses that will lead to certification? I am open to learning code as well. Thank you.

  • @mansooramubashra
    @mansooramubashra 3 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    A quality assurance tester now a days is almost always required to have some sort of coding knowledge. A QA engineer it required to do a mix of both Manual and Automated work and some companies have even gone as far as to be almost 100 percent automated.

    • @s_for_short2400
      @s_for_short2400 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yup. Microsoft even eleminated its QA department as far as the early 2000s. I know this because Barnacules Nerdgasm mentions how he worked in QA at microsoft and got laid off because they were going for a "user feedback" approach.

    • @keithbryant1632
      @keithbryant1632 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      As a QA Engineer, I can confirm that QA is moving towards testers with strong coding knowledge. Most of my day is spent writing test scripts for UI, API, and system performance (load, stress,etc...) testing. Many companies want at least half of their QA team to be strong coders, and some companies want all their QA to be strong coders.

    My recommendation for anyone that watches this video and wants to go the UX or UI designer route, train to be a Product Designer instead. As Product Designers we do the UX, UI, and User research (depending on where you work).
    While you can find User Researcher specific jobs in the market, it's becoming extremely difficult to find UX Designer only job. Most Design Managers are looking for hybrid designers in most cases.
    This is the reason why if you look at most 'UX Designer' job descriptions the title is misleading. The hiring manager is actually looking for a Product Designer, which is why in the responsibilities part of the description you read bullet points for both UX and UI.

      UX Researcher jobs are actually more difficult to find, since recruiters prefer academic research backgrounds or masters degrees. The availability of a job title is a misleading metric, most of the hurdles are what the demands of the job entails and what experience they expect you to have. The people selling UX Design courses are luring people into signing up with the promise of a great career, but without providing the structure needed to obtain an actual position in the industry. It's alot of work on your own building up a portfolio, networking, and embedding yourself within the community, which all happens AFTER you earn a certificate.

    Thank you so much for making this video explicitly clear. I'd like more info on Business analyst if you don't mind. Also, I see people on SM say they're holding BA with service now or BA with Agile or Scrum training, which would you advise a newbie like myself trying to break into tech start with. It can be a little confusing knowing the particular course to go for when you're self pacing. Thank you. And yes I'm looking forward to your video on NFTs too. First, Non-coding tech jobs (besides IT) are just normal jobs at a tech company like HR isn’t a tech job it’s just a normal job. Most jobs you’ve described especially management ones are usually run by older software engineers who want to stop coding. Rarely is it run by some person without software experience or hasn’t been with the company for a while. Second, I would never hire a QA tester who doesn’t have a CS degree that’s just a fact of the business.

      You are just a blip. I have 26 years in IT. I work with 40 percent of people who don't have IT degrees. I don't have a degree at all and it does not impact my ability to get the role in IT that I have as an account manager. It's my experience, training in the individual products that my customers use and my analytics.
      I suggest anyone reading your comment understand that you are just one of thousands and to take your comment with a grain of salt.

      @@DaWAFFLES1 sure thing. I have had and rejected talent for one of the worlds largest and most influential and profitable organizations. We place our emphasis on culture, analytics, relationship and communication abilities. Elon Musk said it best though he is late to the show. “I don’t care about a degree in all roles.” Paraphrasing. You stated you would never hire a QA tester who has no degree . Degrees are worthless compared to the four areas I spoke on.
      Matter of fact I can get a person who wants to do that role involved in a meet up group and they will know kore in six months than a college degrees individual. And compete better.
