    If your art is good, people will like and follow, I think it's just that simple. It will reach a certain point where it will start to snowball. But as Raf says, stop looking the numbers, find what you love and have fun while doing it, be consistent and grow your skills, only good stuff will come from that! Thanks Raf for giving us your time and thoughts, let's all keep motivated!

    Thanks for the insight! A few of my friends are trying to start our own little art community so this is helpful.
    I wonder if you can speak more specifically to marketing yourself, more on branding. What are some considerations to have for identifying with an 'artist name' or handle? For example, I'm trying to brand off of my Korean name, Hansol. I plan to include it in my legal name at some point, but I imagine it could cause more confusion to an audience or employers. Are there tradeoffs?

    Im about to turn 37.. just starting with Zbrush, I've done a small bit of sculpting in the past. I love art, and drawed so much as a kid and teen.. then fell a bit off of it. Im trying to go back to it, of course I would love to get to a professional level, I can imagine with the internet it can still happen if I work my ass off for SEVERAL years... but the thought that im maybe too old to achieve that with all the responsabilities that come with age and family, plus living in south america... you are certainly an inspiration to find the time! your work is inspiring and it's full of amazing artists to look at(and sometimes get scared at how the f... they can achieve such level haha)

I am a professional Environment Artist as well and it is really hard to work my 8-10 hours, get good sleep, stay in shape, have just a little of social life, eat healthy etc. Plus if we add that we need to come back home and practice for 2-3 hours more apart from the job.....man how you do it? really :D. Social media is ruining our ability to communicate. I think disagreements are almost always taken the wrong way via social media. Most of us, if we sat down to discuss these disagreements we would find the other party listening with the intent to understand. Instead we always interpret disagreements or differing perspectives as an attack on ourselves personally.

Is there any chance for people like me to work remotely from other places for industries like video games? Hey Thanks for the advice Raf Grassetti! That troll is on fire baby.....great sculpting....and Great texturing.
    I like 3D Design and Development......i am 17 years old...well i am teaching myself using youtube. Raf Grassetti have you learnt about 3d Art in College or how did u come to this Stage.!! Its Just Epic. I wanna do some epic stuff like this....so can you tell me if i have hope?? and does working as a 3D Artist Despite all the Effort.......Pay Good! I need numbers bro....i am soo so being told to stop what i am doing and be serious for a moment....and learn real stuff! People say things u know.....and i am feeling discouraged, so this time is just breath taking and hard to decide. So please tell me what u know about the industry......how u got ur knowledge about 3DArt.....how much the Industry paid you when u first entered and how much they pay you know. If u tell me this stuff i bet i will be motivated more and not lose hope on the thing i really really like. Thanks All and all!

      he told his story a lot of times, look for interviews, podcast, like ArtCafe or Zbrush's ones etc. And about money, it doesnt really matter tho, if you do it for money, you would end up quiting sooner or later, but anyway it depends where you live, if you live in a expensive city like LA or California, obviusly there you would get paid a lot more than if you live in a 3rd world country. there is a spreadsheet in the vfx reddit, there you can see the money behind every (or most) art related positions. like he said, consistency its the key. keep learning/working. cheers

    Hi Rafa hope you read this comment and answer me. I want to ask about something i'm stuggling during this years. I started as 3d generalist, but after i turned out in a character /creature artist and texture artist. I built my own site, i have my facebook page, instagrama account and i'm in the many cg portals. During this years i applied in many companies around the world, but i'm almost always rebounded with auto email, or for burocracy issues due to Visa, or automatic response fall in silence. I also tried to get in touch directly with recruiters, without success. My question is; what do you think about this? Today have contact in industry is equal or most importat to be a good artist/professionist? I mean, maybe the most important place to link contacts with other pros are events like you said. But for people can't travel, or haven't important events near theme, the only way is make good works and then hope. today a probal career in this field, depends from how many likes an artwork takes, or bring the right algorithm on a cg portal that highlight you? Or simply somebody that reccomend your name to other artist? i would to know your point of view about this frustrating situation. Thank's

    Please talk about of how much time a production character would take :'( I often see people on videos doing stuff in like 10 to 15 minutes but in a production how much time would it take to finish a character starting from the concept art, modeling, retopology, UVs, texturing, lighting and riging. No one ever talked about it. I am kind of curious of how much would it take? a week? 2 weeks?

    • @Denns300
      @Denns300 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      When you see artist doing stuff in "10 mins", it's "sketching", "doodling", what we call "speed sculpt". It doesn't apply to production, not even close. In fact, in production, this part will just be in the "concept stage". To find ideas etc...
      For a character from concept(you mostly skip this stage) to render, at least 2-3 months, the minimum if you make a solid work. And depending on the complexity of the character, can go up to 6 months max. That's for personal projet for your portfolio. Over time, you'll be faster.
      Now for production, It depends on the kind of project, and at some point, the company also. Especially for "hero" or main characters that you gonna see too often. There will have approvals from the art director etc...to face, a lot of changes can be made throughout the production. You've many many things involved. So It can go from 3 to 1 year. And for "side characters", it's much faster.

    • @grassetti
      @grassetti  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both answers here are correct. A full production character can go from 1 to 6 months. These are concept sculpts and studies.

      You paint directly into the polygons, it is a faster way to get your colors onto the mesh. I think it is a less flexible approach to texturing, but if you just want to get a render and not use your model in animation or games(because of clean topology), it's good enough.

      Not sure about studio jobs n such, but with a big following you can get commissions very easily and charge a lot more money due to demand in your work. so for that type of job then yes a big following will help a ton.

    • @grassetti
      @grassetti  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It doesn’t matter anything if you are trying to get a full time job at a studio. Like I said in the video. If you are trying to be an independent artist it makes a huge difference

    • @Denns300
      @Denns300 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      What you need to focus on, especially for "freelance"(independent artist) is MAKING GREAT WORK and SHARING on the internet. Be CONSISTENT is the key. Don't mind how many "likes" or "followers" you collect. Focus on learning and making solid work that fits today's production standard and share it out there everywhere. Just go with the flow and when your work become more and more mature, people gonna pay attention, ask for your help etc...it'll go naturally.

    What if no one cares about your works and you basically get zero likes or comments even if you do try to make something that people like? XD Wouldn't it be better to just never to engage with any social communities and to never post your works anywhere? It's kinda easier to keep trying when you are not entirely sure how much you suck at something you really want to do.

      some nonperson it all depends on what level you are. If you are posting just for likes it’s probably better to not do it and focus on your craft. If you are there for the community then it doesn’t matter like I said in the video
