    Hi, I've been a bird lover all my life and i think I'm ready for an African grey in a couple of months! Doing as much research as I can before I get one! And I just want to say your videos have been the best by far on training and the well being of the bird on TH-cam! Smokey is a fantastic bird and has a fantastic owner! Keep the videos coming! Thanks

      Please rescue only!!! Please find an African grey that's been previously owned! There are SOOOOOOO many that need homes! No more buying!!!! Do the research on the Aftican Grey and Parrot trade and how we are losing them! 85% of parrots are regimes and given up. Smokey is so special because she is so Very much loved!!! It's ALL about understanding the parrot, not vice versa! That's what you see here. A human being who dedicates his heart life and foul to treating his beloved Smokey as if she were his own child that never grows up past 4 years old.

      Hi how are you? I have a few questions about Africian gray congo parrots. How to tell if male or female? can the bird still fly a little bit with clipped wings? can they be kept in cages all time time? how to tell if the bird is sick and what to do about it? how to train the bird to talk?

    • @BJGvideos
      @BJGvideos 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joel Jose You can't really tell the difference without getting them sexed. Though there are some exceptions. My vet said my grey went though "female puberty". You can't keep them in cages all the time although a cage is good as like a "home base", and they should be put in there when they'd be alone in the house and at night. A cage also has to have toys, though just a few are ok if the bird spends the vast majority of its time out. Birds have to play! And they need interaction. Even if you have multiple birds they need to interact with you. Take them out, let them walk around (supervised!), put them on your shoulder when you do stuff, talk to them throughout the day, describe what you're doing, etc. Clipped birds can still fly a bit so be careful!

    • @BJGvideos
      @BJGvideos 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joel Jose Oh and how to tell if they're sick, look for behaviors like puffing up a lot (some of it is normal though), wheezing, runny nose, being very quiet (some birds are generally quiet though), not eating or drinking, etc. And teaching them to talk, just talk to them a lot.

    Every Grey I know of LOVES the shower room! Maybe it's the sound of the water falling...
    In their ancestral home in Africa, rainfall is measured in feet, not inches. If you want to calm an overexcited Grey down, put him on a perch in the shower room and turn on the water so he can hear it. Works for us! We got a shower perch and finally accustomed our male, 15 years old now, to perch on it, and with the shower on drizzle, he will take his own bath.

      Hahaha! Well, to be fair, our vocal cords aren’t designed to imitate the sounds of other creatures, that’s why when most people attempt to sound like a bird, cat, or dog, it’s not quite as accurate as a parrot. But I hope you can learn to whistle some day! It’s a lot of fun!

    Smokey is so incredibly lovely! I cry watching her because she's a special one. But I must point out the reason she is so special is because you treat her with so much love and respect! I think very few people understand that all Parrots need tons of space, time, money, energy and not just attention but love & patience! It's like having an eternal 4 year child. I hope people considering a parrot learn from you how much you give to Smokey and that's what makes her so wonderful! You let her be her. Also, I would love to see you promote adoption & rescue instead of buying! Even if you got smokey through a seller, the time is now to stop capturing wild African greys and all parrots! It's time to find loving generous patient homes for the millions of abused abandoned and mistreated parrots out there! Thank you for posting! You're an ideal parrot companion!!! Xo

It goes to show their intellect is all, they shouldn't be allowed to even own a bird of such intelligence and to destroy any capabilities they have and narrow it down to ridiculous cuss words! • @annsmith5725

      Tammy Phillips , I had a grey named Kaboo. Short for peek-a-boo. Did you happen to get him in Massachusets? I had to rehome him because my health wouldn't let me take care of him properly. Broke my heart. He (assuming) was the sweetest bird. Had him for 9 years and he never bit me. Just hoping I guess. I also had a red lored Amazon named Chico. Another sweet bird, never bit me either. He was my first full size parrot. I think he thought he was a dog He would nestle under my chin for scratches.

    • @tammyphillips4237
      @tammyphillips4237 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      My African Grey is Taboo. He was originally from Miami. He's about 25 now. I have had him for 3 years now. His previous owner couldn't take care of him. We bonded very quickly and I am positively crazy about him! I am so sorry you had to part with your Grey but I understand. They require a lot of attention. I used to work with all sorts of parrots when I was younger and was amazed at how receptive and eager they all were. That started a love for these beautiful creatures that I don't think I will ever be over! I am extremely grateful that I met my little guy and that we have such a great relationship. He's a huge part of my family. I can't imagine life without him!

    I love watching you work with Smokey but I hope you can help with older birds who have lived in several homes prior to yours. I adopted my male grey when he was 8 (3 years ago). He is very distrustful of men and has even attacked several smoking beer drinking men who have come into my home. He is not at all cuddly and doesn't like much contact. Can you please give your viewers some training on how to work with mature birds with emotional baggage.
