Immediately copped this camera, it was pretty clear to me the value it brings as a hybrid shooter. I bought the Canon R6 less than a year ago and am very happy with the switch u. I've already committed it as my main camera for a bunch of projects including a shoot for Project Rock with the big man himself, and to say I was stoked with the result is an understatement. My key combo on the shoot was the XH2s with Viltrox 13mm and 85mm. BEAST. I opted to shoot with this combo over the BM6k was specifically for the hybrid format, and the ability to quickly shift through settings while running and gunning on a fast paced shoot. You made a solid purchase, I'd recommend getting a full setup of the viltrox lenses before they bump the prices up.
I don't know about value, the non-S X-H2 about to be announced on sept. 8 will have 8K and cost much less because it doesn't have the expensive stacked sensor. It will have more rolling shutter but probably on the (good) X-T4 level so not a dealbreaker, but with better video /low ISO perf.

Absolutely loved this! You covered a lot of ground on what is quite frankly the only subject most people care about in this camera because everything else it does is above the skill level of most of us anyway. Also, may God bless you and your family. It was heartwarming and adorable to see you with your loved ones doing what you love and also despite the hard work behind the scenes. | too believe the hardware is definitely the best and highly capable. It really comes down to firmware updates and more importantly lenses that communicate and have motors that can match up to the camera. Really happy i decided to stick to APSC early on in my Canon days and was waiting and saving up to see what the R7 and XH2S could do. Of course you get what you pay for but in the 4 years I've been with Fuji bodies, not only have I had time to improve my Manual Focus skills but now with this camera, I feel like I can grow even more plus have AF that is better than the previous generation. Hopefully Fuji, can make more improvements within this sensor/processor generation itself. (Also, I said this on Mike Riley's urban wildlife channel, maybe there should be a way that all the manufacturers can ethically have the bodies log and then obtain usage data of all the IBIS and AF scenarios from the global customer base on their flagship bodies and use that to teach the AI master engine in their labs to get better for the next firmware.)
Thank you for this video. After some lazy reviewers didn’t take their time to fully use and understand the camera but where so quick to complain and criticise Fuji. I honestly love the way you took the time to test out the camera’s autofocus system. I have the XH2S and use it with the Tamron 17-70mm and that combo is magic. Thank you once again and looking forward to the full review.
How reliable is AF for the Tamron 17-70? I have it on the X-T4 but it could be better. Wondering if I should just switch to Sony or upgrade eventually to the X-H2S. My 18mm f1.4 LM died just after 10 months so I'm a little skeptical of Fujifilm build quality right now.
@@jasontaycs7195 I can only speak of the reliability of the lens on XH2S because that’s what I use with it. So far I have used it at 5-6 shoots and it as performed exceptionally well.
Hey this is pretty much the best autofocus video on TH-cam for the Xh2s. Thanks for putting this together. Was wondering how you're feeling about the video AF performance after using it for a couple months. Does the 18mm 1.4 still not have any pulsing issues for you or does it pop up randomly still, regardless of the stickiness settings? Also wondering if you've found any non-cine zoom lenses besides the f4 pz that don't suffer from the exposure fluttering issue. Thanks!

Absolutely love this video, and hopefully you can answer this question about the viltrox for me. The 13mm when I was vlogging with it had some serious wobbles on it when I used my X-T4. Is it because of how wide it is, or the rolling shutter on the xt4 and how are the wobbles on the XH2S? Absolutely loved the video, let me know what you think!

First...the best af test ever made with your baby. Yes, you are right it's much better than the XT4 for example but it's not there yet. I found out that the perfomance drops as soon as you press the record button. In 120fps it lost the focus many times. Is it reliable? Almost but almost is not enough. I don't shoot weddings but imagine you film the couple when they come out of the church in 120fps and the camera looses the focus several times.
Haha I know right, I should have just mad the test about them - they always still the show. I'm not a wedding filmmaker so thats why I didn't bother speaking on that - as well as I don't use high frame rates a lot. but you make a valid point

One thing Fuji have to fix is the little stutter just before hitting focus. It seems to still be present on the X-H2S and it is really annoying. Canon, Sony and Nikon don’t have this problem.
I was set on getting an XH2s, but I've been seeing a ton of negatives about the autofocus especially with video. Apparently most people agree the early firmware was good, but it has gotten worse with each update and the continuous autofocus is at an unacceptable level with current firmware. I'm sure this affects you less since you use manual focus lenses, what are your thoughts?
Nice video, as always ! :-)) I'd love to know if you would choose Viltrox 13mm over Fuji 10-24mm for an ultra-wide angle use on a X-H2 with its 40MP sensor. I feel like the 13mm would be more consistent performer in terms of rendering and precision. Thanks for your great advices and reviews. Take great care ! Colin
That was my idea too, @@CineDailies. It looks so versatile and confident. Now, I have to try both XF18mm F1.4 WR and XF23mm F1.4 WR to see which one is the right for me...
Another excellent video and you have come to the same conclusion as myself after testing the camera excellent tracking but needs work on its focus lock but I believe Fuji will update the firmware and yes we need more affordable video centric lenses I’m hoping to test the new 18-120mm which is touted to be video centric. I have posted some videos on the bird subject detect side of it not posted my face detect tests yet and it’s not looking as good as yours but I’m getting there.
Just get the cine 18-55. The 18-120mm isn't truly parfocal, just electronically compensated. You can still see microadjustments happening when zooming so it's not worthy of filmmaking at all. But the TH-camrs will love it. If you really need that long end we have the Samyang 135mm F2 which is one of the sharpest lenses on the planet with one of the most common filter thread sizes, that can obliterate the background.
I have the X-H2S and when I’m in Flog2 I can’t use waveforms or false colours on my monitor, it doesn’t show the clipping points correctly. The waveform clips below 100 ire and the false colours won’t clip/show red no matter what. It works as expected in Flog1 but not Flog2, do you know why this is? I don’t only want to rely on zebras for exposure. Thankyou for the video looking forward to your longer review 🙌
Unless I missed this - There isn't a waveform or false color in the camera. You'll have used an external monitor. There is a histogram you can use in the camera. I've learned to have my highlights around .3 or .6.
Haha am I the only one wondering how you got the red shutter button on the H2s? I didn’t think it was like the older Fuji’s with the removable shutter button.
Thanks lots for this video. I saw a video of yours where you had gotten the Sony A74 because you wanted better autofocus. Do you prefer using the Fuji XH2S to the Sony A74 then?
I have the A7IV and also the Fujifilm XH2S, I can confidently tell you that the 7IV can’t match the XH2S. That camera got so much specs and speed for the price. I love my XH2S as it’s turning out to be my full run and gun handheld camera as I am strongly considering selling my A7IV.
I really like the real time tracking AF and tap subject teaching on the Sony cameras. But I am making due with what the Fuji film can offer and I like staying in the same system of lenses I've invested in. This is me hoping Fujifilm really leans into what this camera can do.
@@CineDailies Yeah. I have been asking them on twitter to add full subject tracking and 6.2k/60p in their next firmware updates. Hopefully they do because I know the camera can do it and more.
How it could be good if Fuji doesnt have touch - tap tracking ? How you handle situation if there will be more than just you in your frame ? How to choose object to focus on ? That's really frustrating
I used the 18-120 and it's okay. You are locked in to use the zoom rocker or clutch. You can override it for fat zooms. It's might be good to some cases but not everything. And it's an f4
Hey, nice video) It would be nice too se side by side comparison between BM6K and XH2s in flog and flog2 and Film or Raw on Blackmagic. Especially interms of dynamic range, highlights blow out, shadows ect. There is no such video on YT yet.
I’m shooting a feature in November with this camera, how long does a battery last in 6k? I’ll be using a battery bank also but good to know non the less
I can record for an hour straight in 4k pro res 422 10bit on one battery. That's with a 512gb cfast express card. Which is about 1 hour and 40 mins on a card The 6k is about 24 mins in HQ - so you run out of cards space before battery dies
This is awesome! I’ve been trying to find the perfect fast, wide lens for vlogging, landscapes and some Astro. I’m using the xc15-45 in the meantime and it really hates low light AF lol. Looks like the 18 1.4 is what I need to track down! I’m shooting wildlife and have cranked the sensitivity to the max as well as the af speed. My thought process is I want the fastest response time for birds, I don’t need smooth, cinematic throws. And I want it to remain as sticky as possible when it gets a subject. So far, I think this is working a lot better than the native settings, but im so new to this, it’s hard to tell. Does that make sense to you?
I use this lens with xt4 and I set a button to get in to 1.29x crop mode, and it becomes 25mm:) The only down side that you can't get in to crop mode while recording, its not like Sony's clear image zoom.
I use the Tamron 17-70 lens on the XH2S and the combo works so well too. I may get the Viltrox 13mm soon to use in Real Estate, events and music videos
That makes sense! I see that with a lot of wild life filmmakers if they are capturing fast action. What's nice about the xh2s you can set up two different profiles with custom AF setting and toggle between the two
i'm not sure if it's not too late to ask other questions, but i try anyway: as you, i make solo documentaries. i own a bmppc 4k with a sort of heavy rig (external monitor, external batteries, cage, speedbooster, etc...). sometimes i dream about a small hybrid system that can shoot prores, have as good colors /DR as the bmpcc and maybe have a good IBIS in order to have a smaller setup that i can just put in a bag. As i saw in your other videos you use the bmpcc for your work, but do you think the xh2s is good enough to work on your projects? in this case, how to manage sound properly? it would be nice to hear your thoughts on this topic :) have a nice day, love from france!
@@CineDailies thanks for quick reply. I ordered Sigma just now and it’s my first lens for X-H2S which I received today. I bought this camera based on your and Evan review. Now I need one more or two lenses for cinema. What should I get it? Thank you.
I have an x-s10 and thinking of upgrading. One quirk with the x-s10 is when I use the micro hdmi connected to a portkeys pt6 and turn on info display it switches to 1080p on the external monitor. Is that the same on the x-h2s?
That's just me being lazy. A colorist told me I don't need to over-expose flog2. But it's impressive how much information is retained. Ima have a color grade and exposure video section in the full review
Nice work. I wish they would add a touch-to-track option or port the wide/tracking from photo to video. I don’t really want to specify face, animal, car, etc. I’d rather just put the crosshairs on whatever object in the frame and have it track that until it leaves the frame.

I'm sure this affects you less since you use manual focus lenses, what are your thoughts?
Nice video, as always ! :-))
I'd love to know if you would choose Viltrox 13mm over Fuji 10-24mm for an ultra-wide angle use on a X-H2 with its 40MP sensor.
I feel like the 13mm would be more consistent performer in terms of rendering and precision.
Thanks for your great advices and reviews.
Take great care !
Colin
I would get the viltrox, it's a better lens in my opinion.
Have the future updates had a positive impact on autofocus?
Really informative man, thanks! Also, TH-cam = worst boss ever.
Facts bro haha that's for watching
It's a adhesive button! It works really well! Look through my community tab - I posted a link.
Why does this camera not focus with focal reducers?
Late to the party but why doesn’t Fuji support timecode? It’s in there just give us the ability to jam sync at least.
Good video.
Thanks for watching!
would you make a new vid based on the recent update 3? thank you so much for creating fantastic reviews for xh2s
Yes I will!
@@CineDailies Legend :)
I presume you are aware of the XF18-120mmF4 LM PZ WR for video? And of course the 2 MKX zooms.
I used the 18-120 and it's okay. You are locked in to use the zoom rocker or clutch. You can override it for fat zooms. It's might be good to some cases but not everything. And it's an f4
The MKX zooms are manual focus - I'm was touching on AF lenses
Hey, nice video) It would be nice too se side by side comparison between BM6K and XH2s in flog and flog2 and Film or Raw on Blackmagic. Especially interms of dynamic range, highlights blow out, shadows ect. There is no such video on YT yet.
That will be coming in he full review!
Or maybe another decided video ha
@@CineDailies Are you doing braw for the xh2s too?
I’m shooting a feature in November with this camera, how long does a battery last in 6k? I’ll be using a battery bank also but good to know non the less
I can record for an hour straight in 4k pro res 422 10bit on one battery. That's with a 512gb cfast express card. Which is about 1 hour and 40 mins on a card
The 6k is about 24 mins in HQ - so you run out of cards space before battery dies
@@OUCGN oh nice! Is it good quality when it crops still?
I do the same for my xt3, and I think you're on the right track! Lowering sensitivity definitely helps for when I'm shooting wedding videos.
As i saw in your other videos you use the bmpcc for your work, but do you think the xh2s is good enough to work on your projects? in this case, how to manage sound properly?
it would be nice to hear your thoughts on this topic :)
have a nice day, love from france!
Could you tell me the color (code?) or exact color and font you’re using for the text ??
Does the filter affect the autofocus? Not sure if anyone has ever asked that.
Not from my test but ill make a note to touch on in the full review
Which lens for content creation is better Viltrox 13mm F1.4 ultra wide or new native X mount Sigma 18-50 F/2.8 ?
I mean, what do you need? A zoom or prime?
@@CineDailies thanks for quick reply. I ordered Sigma just now and it’s my first lens for X-H2S which I received today. I bought this camera based on your and Evan review. Now I need one more or two lenses for cinema. What should I get it? Thank you.
I won't lie, not really interested in this camera - I just like how you review anything hahah BUT the footage colours look *chefs kiss*
Hah well thank you for talking the time to watch!
I have an x-s10 and thinking of upgrading. One quirk with the x-s10 is when I use the micro hdmi connected to a portkeys pt6 and turn on info display it switches to 1080p on the external monitor. Is that the same on the x-h2s?
Yeah it's a 1080p output for the xh2s
Does the af works while shooing slowmotion ?
I haven't tested yet haha but will do
at 8:03 are you monitoring the video somehow? And if so what are you using? I've tried the X App to monitor video and it's impossible.
Yeah I'm using the DJI Raven eye
Do you usually expose 2 stops to the right? if so why is that?
That's just me being lazy. A colorist told me I don't need to over-expose flog2. But it's impressive how much information is retained. Ima have a color grade and exposure video section in the full review
@@CineDailies cheers man! That would be greatly appreciated…
What normal and long lenses do you like for this camera?
Loving my DZO 21mm and 75mm
hey, just a question: is it possible to record in prores in 4K? or is it just for the 6k mode? thanks a lot!
Yes you can record pro res in 1080p, 4k, and 6k
@@CineDailies thanks a lot!
*if you have the latest lenses
Getchu a tilta matte box
For?
But dude what bag do you use??
A ton of tenba bags lol
How are you recording the rear LCD screen?
I'm using the raven eye
👍🏻
I wish the IBIS was as good as Sony’s. It’s still jitters and jumps during pans
That’s wild. Because Sony’s isn’t great…
No need to buy Canon or Sony anymore for the video. Fuji is half the price and much lighter. And Fuji colors are the best.
HOT TAKE ! Love it haha
Half the price? A74 is the same , just like the r6 ii.
Multi is good for vlogging
I have not had it hit. When something comes into the frame other than my face it trips out
Sony 9 is sub 2k now, full frame and still outperforms Fuji in video autofocus
Sony has built their Alpha cameras on amazing AF. Money and resources will always be ahead of the game.
Nice work. I wish they would add a touch-to-track option or port the wide/tracking from photo to video. I don’t really want to specify face, animal, car, etc. I’d rather just put the crosshairs on whatever object in the frame and have it track that until it leaves the frame.
I wish too!! Would be so helpful. Facts that's a much better Functionality.
Yeah. Hopefully they include that and 6.2k/60p In future firmware updates.
Just sub to your channel interested in Fuji😁
Haha thanks for the support!
