The Iwami (Ee-wa-me) together with Hizen (He-zen) in WOWS, are based on two of the preliminary A-140 designs that lead to the Yamato-class battleships. She gets the general armament layout and hull design of the A-140-J3 with four main battery turrets in AB-XY configuration for the main battery and then three triple 155 mm secondary turrets around the Y turret. However, she gets the main armament of the B2 variant with four twin turrets. According to the Washington Naval Treaty of 1922, the ratio of battleship fleets of the U.S.; Great Britain; and Japan was fixed at 15:15:9 units respectively. Being unable to achieve numerical superiority over their possible adversaries, the Japanese admirals staked their plans on the qualitative superiority of their ships in accordance with their "decisive battle" doctrine. The doctrine presupposed that the outcome of a war would be decided after the main enemy forces had been defeated in a general engagement of battleship fleets. Confidence in the success of this plan was based on their experience of previous wars, including the Russo-Japanese War. Admiral Yamamoto Isoroku, and other high-ranking officers who opposed the idea of placing faith in battleships in the future war, found themselves outnumbered. The Japanese High Command expected that their "super-battleship" would surpass all the existing counterparts in terms of firepower and survivability. The first projects for a ship like this were prepared in the late 1920s. All of them surpassed the treaty displacement of 35,000 tons, and had powerful armor and gun calibers that varied in size from 410 to 510 mm. In 1934, the Japanese High Command secretely decided to renounce the treaty's restrictions and develop a project that would definitely be superior to any foreign counterpart. They counted on the assumption that the United States' ability to build battleships would be limited by the width of the Panama Canal. One of those projects-A-140J-3-preceded the Yamato-class battleships. Fun fact: Iwami is named after one of the old provinces in Japan, in the area that is today the western part of Shimane Prefecture. It was sometimes called Sekishū (石州). Iwami bordered Aki, Bingo, Izumo, Nagato, and Suō provinces. In the Heian period (794-1192) the capital was at modern-day Hamada. In the Kamakura period (1192-1333) the Masuda clan belonged to the Minamoto clan (Genji) and conquered Iwami Province. From the sixteenth century onwards it played an important role in the economic history of East Asia as a major source of silver, with the Iwami Ginzan Silver Mine being the LARGEST underground silver mine in Japanese history, the mine was active for 400 years from its discovery in 1526 to its final closure in 1923. Today the mine is registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. whc.unesco.org/en/list/1246/
Using torps on the yamato when he was coming around the island or when he was beached would have been perfect! Def do not forget about torps like you said Spartan!
Speaking of citadeling that cruiser, shell/armor interactions and angles have gotten really weird. I was in Musashi last night shooting at another Musashi at long range - so neither of us could really hit each other, it's a Musashi - and I had one shell land on him for a citadel despite him being well-angled then did the exact same thing again in the next salvo. Citadels feel a lot more random and less a result of good aiming nowadays.
Ngl seeing your teammates radar pulse travel across sea is pretty epic, amazing game though spartan, considering getting my first premium Japanese ship👍
I've been absolutely LOVING this ship! The torps are better to force broadside than to sink ships IMO. I use them a lot to move a group of bbs where I want them to citadel the snot out of them. Last ditch "oh shit" moment they're great for too lol! Don't forget about them and you might just love this ship!
I know the little number slider bar things don't really mean anything but based on those alone, this thing is pretty stacked on paper. We all also know that doesn't mean anything, but it's interesting.
My first thought was It might be fun to play like my huruna with huruna, franz and Hans inspirations and fortress porcupine, firefighter meticulous, and will to rebuild since it seems the first Japan BB with functional long range secondary's and I always have fun flanking and pushing in Huruna. Have you tried a secondary build yet?
Lol Spartan we meet again. I’m Phantom3advanced in the yammy. We are actually friends on wowl. Unfortunately I have to get up very early to to play same time as you. I’m from South Africa. You got me when you draw me into that crossfire. I realized it to late and at the island, my intention was to ram you but I beached myself like an ass. Lol I new there could be torps coming and I turned a little to much. Thanks for a great game. Always a pleasure to play against you or with you.
starting playinng again yesterday after a year to win this and the first day i had the best day got to level 18 in 3 hours the played again today after 4 hours only got to level 21 had a such a bad rng it was a joke
Old post I know, I just wanted your opinion since the light fires campaign EVERYBODY is now firing HE in ALL ships an AP is almost a nonexistent shell. I hate it as a BB, but I know my teammates are doing it as well and missing chances of hitting citidels etc. sigh 😔 I fear my fun in this game is near its end
Love ur videos ad always. Ugh yes me to 9 out of 10 matches so far are Shimas and Yamato every match 5 dd and 4 bb 5 Shima and 4 yammy it's so annoying
good vid too bad the 100mm secondary suck because they not given special ijn he pen on 100mm guns. (tho i just checked pc version of this ship the 100mm gets 30mm of he pen) it has 17mm odd disappointed because i unlocked this ship today played it. did some testing after i noticed a secondary hit on a dd didn't do damage only to find it couldn't even do damage to a tier 7 vanguard superstructure (19mm) . Stupid to give them 6km and esb for its tier if it can't even pen. I sent feedback in as the secondary makes no sense at its tier because it near useless can't even pen a lower tier dd with them that saying alot. I highly doubt my feedback gets noticed or approved knowing past actions . overall a good balanced ship other then the clear secondary problem we already have the 100mm french bb secondary problem we don't need a ijn dupe of it with no way of fixing with skills.
The camo is uninspired...poor effort by the design team. They've failed before, it's not often but it happens. The Brandenburg camo makes the ship look like a wedding cake, and Georgia has a very bland French camo. With all of that aside I disagree with SpartanElite43 regarding the Iwami's purpose. Skilled brawling. Peace of mind. Both provided when your ship has torpedos. It's a great insurance policy to have out there. As far as the torpedo angles being a bit rough for the player...every ship can't have every design dynamic being easy to use, a little skill development is a good thing, keeps the game interesting for a player who really wants to learn stuff, even things that are more challenging or difficult. I would've preferred a Premium American or Russian Tier 8 battleship over the Iwami at this time because neither of those nations have one yet. Japan already has Musashi out there as a Premium. And before anybody says they missed the Musashi campaign, I will answer with this...nothing stopping ya from getting the Yamato in the Bureau for free to make up for that....and ya get better AA.
Oh yeah I just did too that's really weird I've gotten citadels on it at pretty steep angles with ships that really shouldn't be punching through there
@@SpartanElite43 I barely ever play her as its not my style but I always found it to be a really squishy ship regardless of the angle especially with a battleship

This is just my opinion and know i leave a few out cause ive never played them however; there are only 4 good japanese battleships i like to play and frequently play the rest i play if i have to or its a buddy challenging my patience. 1 fuso, 2. Nagatoe, 3 amagi, 4 yammy for me thats it japanese battleships worth a crap on a consistant basis tge rest have really ticked me off with thr kongo coming in as my least favorite ship in the entire game

Okay hun I was. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay. Okay
Spartan needs to higher you for this historu lesson perminently
You not firing torps at him from 7km away drove me nuts
Haha I'm sure I'll remember I have torps eventually.. I'm just not used to having them and so it never crosses my mind
What about when he was half a kilometer away 😂😂
Oh yea it has 15km range Japanese torpedoes
Using torps on the yamato when he was coming around the island or when he was beached would have been perfect! Def do not forget about torps like you said Spartan!

They are completely random now.
If I was that yamato getting stuck on the island at the worst possible moment, I would of just thrown my controller to the moon

I just got the Tier VII Akatsuki on PC. Makes me feel like a winner, until I play. Gotta practice, practice, practice. GG! Hail Caesar!
This is a brawler ship, not a sniper. You get no dispersion and goes all over the place. I heavily rely on my torps
Glad I didn't make your highlight reel yesterday 🤣🤣🤣 Great video as always my friend 💯
I don't know much about all the other ships, so thank you ,I use these to research my enemies lol
Knowledge is power
I can't wait to get this ship
Thought the Nelson sister ships was gonna drop immediately, guess we will have to wait, keep doing what you do spartan!
No it comes out mid April I believe
The way the Yami but Got stuck in the Island That was funny you make me laugh Like Spartan facts
I wonder how much distance you would gain on the torps if you ran Gleaves as an inspiration

i really think its a nice looking ship .. maybe tier VII would've been better for it ? not sure tbh
The iwami mami
Great vid as always Spartan 😊
Idk if this ship has been buffed since you did this video.. I just got this ship today I love it but I also don't have a Musashi or a repub
It looks like a fun ship I will see when I get her all games I've seen with it are either really good or really bad
time to call this thing "mommy iwami" and piss off all my friends 😂
Condensed version :
Ship sucks thanks for watching.
It definitely does not suck
Think you will find you citadelled that cruiser due to the higher penetration....
The Shimi lobbies are very annoying lately. 4-5 shimikazes on a team shouldn’t be a thing.
*Presses F for Yamato* ...
The amount of DDs I have killed with the torps this ship has is laughable. They stay in their smoke broadside, thinking they are safe.
Even if the ship sucks think of it as a campaign for 18 million silver doubloons. Plus all the other goodies earned along the way
Great video

Gg I was worried about the ram but yeah once you hit the island there was no chance in a Yamato to survive the driveby
Tbh i think wg messed up choosing this ship instead of the Hizen imo. At least the Hizen is just an alternative to the Musashi with lots of guns.
