The surah doesnt actually say they will be forgiven anyway, Allah says that the ones who believed Jesus was a messenger as he said to them will be forgiven, but not those who take him as a god. He is showing us that even the prophets will be asked about what they did and he is asking Jesus (peace be upon him) if he told him to worship him, to show us how severe it is.

Al-Maidah means "The Table full of food" , it was named after that story of prophet Jesus(pbuh) when he asked God for it

1. The scene you just heard in Day of Judgement in the Quran, maybe followed by the scene described by Jesus in Matthew "Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!" " Mat 7-22-23
First they call him LORD!! when he is a Prophet. Second, they say we did these deeds IN YOUR NAME, instead of In the Name of God. Of course the context in the bible is altered, and many would say "No no, Jesus meant this and that it is not about this or that.." Just like when Jesus said "My father is greater than I " they explain this as "they are co equal but he is humbling himself" wow so Jesus is not able to express himself in simple phrase, they need to clarify a mighty prophet words with their words.. when we start interpreting words as we wish, our speech or any text will mean anything to any one. My father is greater than I, is a simple straightforward
sentence, how could this be "I am humbly co equal with God"!! So I am almost sure that God, who knows everything, asked Jesus in the Quran "Did you tell them to take me and my mother as deities " To let Jesus worshipers hear the truth from Jesus himself, denying their claim.. Because there are verses in Quran where God explain that in That day many False Gods and Idols will deny their worshipers in front of them.... And Jesus pbuh is one case here.
2. The reciter cried because it is powerful conversation in Judgement Day, The Most hard Day. He may cry for those People who are on the verge of being condemned hearing this conversation in that day and hearing their "God" Jesus denying their false claim. He cried because it must be a hard moment, at least I cried thinking of this and remembering the Mathew verse that I cited earlier. there are much to say about the verses in themselves.. feel free to disagree, ask etc..

Nice surah. Some of Quran reciter, sometimes they cry while recite Quran...SPECIALLY...when its tell about warning and punishment. Actually the warning and punishment is also a reminder for all muslim...that as a human there are always potentiallity to forget Allah and go astray...

The bible scribes altered many context of key passages but it is about Jesus worshipers!! They will rush and appeal to him, LORD!! LORD!! when he is a Prophet.
Second, they say, "We did these deeds in YOUR NAME," instead of in the name of God.." But the bible is altered, Jesus in the bible said "My father is greater than I," but they insisted in understanding it as "they are co equal, but Jesus is humbling himself". "My father is greater than I" is a simple, straightforward sentence. How could they believe God and Jesus are co equal after reading that!! In the bible, it is reported that Jesus have answered the learned man who asked him of all the commandments which is the most important one? Jesus said "Hear O Israel, the Lord Our God (so God is above him) the Lord is ONE". He did not say 3, or pray to Mary, nor did he say the crux of Christianity faith, believe in my blood or sacrifice, because that would be the right moment to say it if this were part of Jesus' teaching. But many were taught god is composed of 3 persons and even admit it is hard to explain, and if you don't understand it, they tell you "it is mystery!!"
So God, who knows everything, will ask Jesus in The Day Of Judgment , "Did you tell them to take me and my mother as deities " to let Jesus' worshipers hear the truth from Jesus himself, denying their claim (of him being God) because there are verses in the Quran where God explains that on that Day many false gods and idols will deny their worshipers in front of them.... And Jesus pbuh is one case here.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, "Allah Almighty says: Whoever comes with a good deed will have the reward of ten like it and even more. Whoever comes with an evil deed will be recompensed for one evil deed like it or he will be forgiven. Whoever draws close to me by the length of a hand, I will draw close to him by the length of an arm. Whoever draws close to me by the length of an arm, I will draw close to him by the length of a fathom. Whoever comes to me walking, I will come to him running. And whoever meets me with enough sins to fill the earth, not associating any idols with me, I will meet him with as much forgiveness as possible. " Muslim 2687
Being Sincere means willingness to put the Truth above traditions, family ties, jobs (if priests, clergies, etc) or "what would they say If I become a Muslim". Quran mentioned many times that people worshiped (meaning clinging tight) their forefathers' ways (traditions), jobs, family ties etc, which will lead them astray from his path.
