Withering neatly explains how she manages to not only survive but thrive in the gladiatorial arena. Providing no one becomes suspicious of her success....
Yeah I think we'll need some in-universe clarification on how subtle this spell is. What does the casting look like? How does the physical effect manifest? Probably not entirely feasible to pull this one off in front of a colosseum filled with people.
This is wonderful and I am very happy you are playing Black Sword Hack! Since a few weeks, I started a BSH campaign myself and my characters are currently exploring the ruins of Alissar, once the capital of the Dust Empire. The way the setting is presented in the game is a treasure for the soloist. I am sure your game will inspire me, I really love your style, clear presentation and amazing stories. Welcome back!
Hah! That's awesome. I like how these vague world building concepts and naming suggestions end up developing into completely different directions for everyone playing the game.
@@killtenratsrpgYes, it's brilliant! I hope other designers pick up this style of setting. It makes solo exploration so interesting and I am sure it can work well for group games too. I am looking forward to see how your game proceeds!
I'm really happy you're back! Good to hear that you are well now! Love your way of telling the narrative! PS: I was looking to try some Black Sword Hack (maybe Into the Odd Remastered soon also) solo so this is an awesome surprise to make me try!
It's a brilliant system, very slim and concise but with enough content to sustain fairly lengthy campaigns. The worldbuilding approach with these "prefab components" and a custom map really stuck with me. If any other game does it quite this way, I haven't found it yet.
The contrarian in me was tempted to put them where the Dust Empire ended up and just go "well they were called that by their REALLY southern neighbours off the edge of the map" - but then my desire to put frosty handlebar mustachio'd sword and sorcery barbarians into the world won out and they got their spot in the cold up north.
Hi, thanks for inspiring me to try running my own solo hack game . I have his idea to run a story loosly based on the monster Hunter games . I want to play a barbarian with berserker, herbalist and inventor . I was wondering if you could answer a rule question for me . Inventor says I can build once a week but is it fair to start the game as first week and thus giving me my starting inventions ? Thanks ! Also the cost of living rule says to pay your constitution in coins, would I pay that at the start of my first game ?
Oh interesting! I'm curious how that goes, the Monster Hunter angle is definitely a pretty unique one. Love the games, can't wait for Wilds! As for inventor, the background itself says you know how to make two things, so I'd take that to mean you start with two inventions of your choice and from the start of the game onwards you track your points and play by the rules of the Twisted Science chapter. Same goes for upkeep and cost of living and such, at least as far as I'm handling it. I generally assume this sort of thing is sorted until the point I take over my character and then I pay any kind of other cost as time progresses, so not the second I start playing my character but as soon as some time passes in the game itself.
@killtenratsrpg Awesome thank you very much for taking the time to address rules. I dont wanna take over your comments discussing rues but maybe there is a discord for something like that ? As far as my campaign I'm very new to world building so it might take me a while . I saw there was a plague setting that turns normal animals to monsters so I thought that could add some flavor to the whole monster Hunter thing. I figured my main bad guys have found a way to control some of the beasts and are using them in war to try to conquer the land . Surrounding villages of monster hunters are working together to put a stop to the scourge!
No worries, that's what the comments are for (at least to my mind), I don't really use any other platforms or channels much, only got a Twitter/X account I barely check and a Bluesky one that gets the same treatment so TH-cam comments are probably the best interaction platform as far as I'm concerned! Worldbuilding in BSH is certainly tons of fun, the little toolkit that it comes with and these "prefab" elements that you can drop on your map are quite comprehensive and can really change things up depending on what choices you make and where you put them geographically (with regards to political situation, alliances, wars, etc.). The whole "plague driving otherwise regular creatures mad" is certainly spot on for the Monster Hunter vibe, gives you a nice excuse to go out fighting big beasties without having to resort to just hunting for the sake of a challenge. I like it!
I just bellowed "finally!" in bed and had to explain to my wife what got me so excited 😅😂
Great to have you back, dude.
WE'RE BACK BABY!
My favourite OSRish RPG system.
Been waiting patiently my friend, good to see you back!

Almost everywhere is North of somewhere! Their secret shame could be that they have discovered that they're more accurately the Central Raiders!

Compelling commentary. You get a vote and subscribe as anyone would who describes the Void as an empty place of unlimited states of potential
Thank you very much! And praise the void, hail Sithis, etc. etc.!
