Montana series have largest screen and dual power option. and Dakotas are small enough to fit in a pocket easily. Other things to mention are model number abbreviations: s - has compass and altimeter t - Topo maps c - camera or coastal maps (color on old versions) i - inland lake maps x - extra sensitive receiver (on older versions only)
Hello, They are actually have exactly the same WAAS high sensitivity receiver. In fact most of the 2nd generation GPS (the ones that are not discontinued) use pretty much the same technology. Main difference between models and even series is some other features such as camera, compass, etc. Some new lines such as Oregon 600 series have GLONASS receivers which are faster and more precise. They are expected to be released in a couple of weeks.
Hello, 2nd generation of Garmin GPS are very similar in features. The difference is mostly in the size of screen, whether it has buttons or touchscreen and additional features as camera or installed maps. For example 78 series float on water, Oregon series has touchscreen, 62 series - buttons which are easier to use if your hands are often wet or if you use gloves. 62 has smaller screen but because of that it does not drain battery as fast.
i did my research and decided n the oregon 550t, im doing biking and hiking and the oregon series supports the pedal cadence and such. i find that the oregon is the same as these but in a touch screen version. the 550's camera is only 3.2 megapixel.
Hello. If you purchase topo maps on DVD then you will have an option to upload into internal (SD card) memory only the regions you need thus minimizing required space. Entire TOPO US 100k takes slightly more than 3 Gb and a region of about 100 x 100 miles less than 10 Mb. Topo 24k can also be uploaded by small sectors. A 24k map for WA and OR for example takes about 1.5 Gb. There really is no point of uploading entire map onto the unit. You can save this space for images, other maps and data.
Hello, I was given a 62stc for Christmas. I need to know how to input a coordinance into the unit. I would like to be able to locate the approximate property corners on unsurveyed property I own. Is this possible.? I can not find any tutorials on the web on how to do it. Thanks
I have a bunch of "memory" questions: Is the reason the st only has 500 Mb of onboard memory (vs 1.7Gb for the s model), because the preloaded 100K US map actually takes up over 1Gb of memory space? I'm just trying to figure out how much memory these maps take up. Do you know of any list online that would show the various maps' resolutions and coverage area, along with how much memory they take up on the unit or card? How much additional memory can you get with the 62's external SD cards?
Dated technology and over priced . Garmin are holding back and charging you for the pleasure. Phones are pissing all over these but are not suitable. We want something that does everything .Come Garmin pull your finger out. .

BTW, only the 62s and the 62st have external antenna jacks in the same spot that the camera is on the 62sc and the 62stc.
this was a really good outline on the differences. thanks!
We would recommend 62s, Oregon 450 or 550, Montana 600 or 650
All of them are available at gps4us.com
