Rocksteady music only lasted for 3 or 4 but I will say rocksteady music is the most influential music in Jamaica's history,it only gave to reggae music but also deejaying started out during the rocksteady era. Dancehall music which came from and lovers rock.
After yesterday's furious 1977 punk explosion, got to relax a bit on Sunday. So it's back to one of ,my loves--Jamaican rock steady. As some of you must know by now, rock steady existed between ska and reggae and only lasted a short time; from approximately the middle of 1966 to the beginning of 1968. Then reggae hit Jamaica and within a few years (mostly on the strength of The Wailers' album Catch A Fire in 1973) this little island would be famous the world over. But don't overlook rock steady. It was the first music the youth of Jamaica could call their own, since ska was generally played by older musicians and many of the rock steady singers were the same age as the youth that were buying their records. I've commented on a lot of rock steady in the past, but not this wonderful, soulful song. By Winston Jarrett & Righteous Flames backed by the studio one house band The Soul Vendors. This is late rock steady from 1968 and a very great song.
Funny, but in just those two short years of Rock steady , they produced so many memorable sounds. Maybe those were some of my happiest years listening to music .

Rocksteady was also the rise of the bass to the front of the mix, Most of the foundation riddims are rocksteady, timeless music.
Somehow how that period 1966-1968 ,were my happiest years everything was going so well. Rock steady ruled until reggae came on the scene .

Those rhythms are still being used, 50 years later. Rocksteady never died.
