    A noteworthy location I missed is the Kate Shelley High Bridge in Boone, IA. The train should cross it around 5pm on Thursday the 17th.

    PSA: There has been a change of plans. I heard that instead of taking the Union Pacific line through Boone and Ames it'll be taking the IAIS from Council Bluffs to South Amana tomorrow.
    The special is currently still in Council Bluffs.

      The only things coming back will be the coaches that the steam team is using as living/storage space. I don't know what route they'll take back, but if I had to guess I'd say they'll be attached to a freight going on about the same route in reverse.

    Why are they donating these 2 steam locomotives

    • @genevarailfan3909
      @genevarailfan3909  ปีที่แล้ว

      UP has standardly had two locomotives in the steam program (previously 3985 and 844). Now that 4014 is restored, 3985 is surplus, so they're donating it along with some other equipment they haven't been using. RRHMA has a lot of experience, and plans to restore 3985, 5511, and 6936 to operation.

    • @genevarailfan3909
      @genevarailfan3909  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stephenswift5531 3985 is pretty worn out--it hasn't had a *full* overhaul since it was in revenue service. UP realized that restoring it would be comparable in cost to restoring a Big Boy, which would be more impressive to run, so they chose 4014. My understanding is that the steam team planned to restore 3985 after 4014, but management decided to stick with the usual two steam engines. Hence 3985's retirement, donation, and soon-to-be restoration.
