I think it’s amazing you volunteer at BBBS, Brian! I work with foster kids and their organization makes a real difference in the lives of the kids.
For activities: bowling, movies, go karts, paintball, sports games, arcades, model building/legos, trampoline parks, water parks/swimming, craft classes, museums.
I used to be a cub and scout leader for 30 years in 🇬🇧. Kids liked visits to fire station, police station, ambulance station. Beach visits to collect shells sea glass and other items to make a picture - lay it out first then glue it down. Can be very effective when framed. Library visit followed by burger or ice.
Oh I love that you’re a big brother!!! A lot of these kids need someone like you! I hope you know how much a difference you’re making in that child’s life! Even if it doesn’t seem like you’re doing much, you’re doing a lot! Keep it up! ❤❤❤
Great organization. Mentoring, cheerleading, encouraging, and supporting kids can be so powerful for them as they develop. Just being there consistently builds hope and fosters greater confidence and self esteem when done with compassion.

Some activities for you little kiddo: painting pottery, taking a cooking class, bowling, teach him a sport or have him teach you one that he knows, scavenger hunts are always fun (maybe find clues or landmarks in a local park, nature hunt), local pool or splash pad. Maybe write a book together. You could write the story and he can illustrate it ( you could self publish it and BBBS could use it to recruit volunteers). Home Depot and Lowe’s have monthly kids workshops were you can make things. Michael’s has tons of workshops for kids to make different things. Plant little flower pots to bring to a nursing home. Maybe you could learn how to code together or video editing. Local libraries have programs also. I could keep going but here are suggestions to get started😊

Brian..you are just the best! You heart is so good! Best bet is to just ask him what he may like to do and I’m sure your creative mind will come up with ideas. My son is now 29yo and I as a single parent just tried to instill in him education and to be a good person..he now has a Masters in Public Service! I am very proud of him! Great thing you are doing❤. Since he’s into arts and crafts, see if you can find some local, like street artist to visit, I think he would enjoy that as opposed to an art gallery.

When I was thar age we had a park where we played softball and best of all was flying our kites my brother's had Superman kites ..fresh air exercise and fun that child is lucky to have you Brian!❤❤❤

I have an 8 year old nephew. He loves Lego and soccer. My 10 year old niece is the crafty one! Pick a nice day to go nature hunting- bush, or beach. Draw what you have found. If it's raining, maybe some card or board games. And cool snacks too! 😊
heya brian, I used to be a nanny and for the creative sorts, either take them to a museum first, ask them what pops out, even draw at the museum (bring a small sketchbook). Hone in on a max of 4 artists, as at that age, they can still get overwhelmed with too much, then ask the what and the why...what picture and why they like it and create activities around this creative side. you can also do this at a library or a book store but art is so much larger to kids in a public environment.

I saw where bowling was already mentioned, but that would be a great summer/hot season activity. Would Guide Dogs of the desert welcome visits, where you guys could walk the dogs or brush them; teaching your little bro the gift of giving back?

Suggestions for a 9 year old activities include bowling, skating, chuckecheese, kid's museums and aquariums. There are ceramic or art studio where you can come for a few hours and create an art piece.

We have that here in Arkansas. Also during Christmas kids get to go shop with a cop, the kids meet the officer at Walmart to shop. It was really cool. Then we have an angel tree. All foster children put there Nam on the Christmas. They ask for things they, you can pick any name from the tree buy the gift and take back to the tree.

See if he's into track for basketball football there's a lot of things going on right now Vegas where the upper team was selected into it I don't know if they move around or not if you say he really enjoyed it and they're about the same age and he also enjoys bowling track anything that's outside, I have some time I like to go dog pal with the dogs and pick out a dog by the dog walk the dog call the 211 number and get some great ideas
I don't know about your little brother, but my 9-year-old son loves pokemon. So I'm getting him a collection of cards and the case to put them in.
