I am glad for this woman. She is WISE for identifying what she REALLY wanted in life. It is SAD that she had to ESCAPE to live a life she wanted!!!!! How crazy is that????????

I know Emma's Mom and 2 of her sisters. Emma's parents have also left the Amish Community. Her sister that is my next door neighbor has had 8 or 10 children now. Her sisters do not speak to her. Her Mother is a lovely woman and her Father is a very kind man. The entire family has been changed in fundamental ways.
The Swartzerntruber Amish are a funny group of people, entire church groups are now embracing more modern means of living while other church groups are just kind of sinking into abject poverty. I personally do not worry as much about the youth that have left the church as much as I do the older couples that have, their adjustment is much more difficult.
The Amish that belong to Emma's "Church" are the most likely to leave. The Amish that belong to the other church tend to stay and are now modifing their lifestyle more to meet the pace of the modern world.

Her parents may be lovely people, but not so good at being parents. They never realized (or care} how unhappy she was because they never asked her. Also, that her sisters do not speak to her now doesn't bode well for their modernizing efforts. Like many religions, there are fundamentalists who don't change and their belief system that includes maintaining the rigid values and the fear of others as if they are actually tenets of the religion.

Very brave. These kind of communities seem to be noble on first glance but one also has to realise that the average education, cognitive competences, intrinsic disciplines and intellectual wellthinking are not exactly the highest developed on average. In these communities the people are taught extremely restricted, narrowed and tunneled as well imho. One also have to ask the question, why is it that these communities are in such 'need' of their way... Because they can't handle their true self otherwise...?

God bless you guys! In the beginning, we were at peace with God and had no sin, till Adam and Eve sinned. When sin came, it separated us fro God and we were all subject to death for the wages of sin is death. Eternal separation. Hell. However, God loves us so much that instead of leaving us in our sin, He came to earth in the form of a baby and lived a sinless life and died on the cross to wipe us clean of our sin. On that cross Christ Jesus took the debt of each of our sins by giving Himself in our place. When we believe in Jesus Christ as our Lord/God, and turn away from our sins, we will have eternal life. He is coming back so we all ought to know Him.
