Alex Pereira surprised UFC gave him No. 8 Khalil Rountree, insists title bout at UFC 307 will be fun

- Alex Pereira is one of the pound-for-pound top fighters in the world, and easily the most active among UFC champions. The light heavyweight champion will defend his belt in the main event of UFC 307 at The Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, on Oct. 5 against No. 8 contender Khalil Rountree Jr.
Pereira says he is only fighting the opponent the UFC asked him to face, and said he didn't duck No. 2 Magomed Ankalaev.
It's not my fault his fights are boring and no one wants to watch, Pereira said of Ankalaev.
I joked that he is tied for the UFC record in takedown percentage, since he's 1-for-1 in his career on takedowns. He said he has a ground game, though, and that people will be surprised how good it will be if he has to use it.
That's unlikely against Rountree, a noted striker who has attempted zero takedowns in his UFC career.

I've watched many Pereira interviews, and this is one of the few where he actually seemed like he wanted to get his thoughts on the record. I think the fact the fighters are doing interviews from their living rooms helps put them at ease when they speak with Iole.

The UFC delaying the inevitable between Magomed vs Alex. Same thing they did with Omalley and Merab. They made Merab fight Cejudo while Omalley got an easy title defense vs Chito. The UFC squeezing the juice out of their champions who have shit grappling. UFC is getting close to boxing every year ;((
