Earlier this year in March I bought a Sony CDP-M19 from a Thrift Store for $15.00. When I took it home I took the lid off so I could clean both the laser and spindle. After doing that it works almost perfectly now. But it struggles to recognize and read a small number of my CDs that play perfectly in other CD Players.
I am going to try using compressed air method now. I also wonder if the belt needs to be replaced even though the tray ejects and loads perfectly.
    Thanks PetesProjects!

Thanks for stopping by and commenting. I have bought several used Sony CD players over the past few years and, in general, I have not been able to get them to work reliably. This Denon is still working with 99% of the CDs.

      You're welcome.
The CDP-M19 I bought is in pretty good condition and I don't think the original owner used it frequently. It plays most of my CDs, modern day CDs, and even burnt CDs perfectly. But again there is a small number of my CDs is has issues with. But I am going to keep tinkering around with the unit to see if I can resolve that problem.
I met someone who had the same problem with another Sony CD player and he wound up replacing the loading belt which resolved the problem. He thought the belt was fine because the tray ejected and loaded back into the player perfectly.
