im sure adding all this B-roll is a not-insignificant amount of work but as a longtime listener of the podcast, I really find the visual aids here to be massively worth it as a viewer - thanks for doing this!
TH-cam before bed is a terrible idea, unless you have something very specific you want to listen to. Too many times have I wondered where the last hour went because I clicked on a short.
20:14 The somewhat ironic part of this comment and Tom’s epic double video review of Arcs is that neither video were tutorials per se. I picked Arcs up at Gen Con because of Tom’s reviews and have only been able to try it once so far, and my friends and brother and I found that we did several things slightly wrong, but we had a good time nonetheless. I would request that Tom give us this praiseworthy teach that Matt speaks of, but then that’d make 3 videos on Arcs for the channel, which…I would not be opposed to. A tutorial involving the Lore and Leaders mini-expansion would be outstanding…
20:34 Such a beautiful metaphor. Arcs is some of most fun i've had with dirt this year. Daybreak and Earthborn rangers are also still on my list. I feel like your passion fuels my engagement with these games even more. This way I can more easily power through initial difficulties with these systems
I love the videocastpod format! Never gotten along with listening to the podcasts, this way I can see all the shiny colours of the games and your faces as you enjoy your silly jokes. More of this please guys, thank you!
Video podcast is best podcast Love all the extra B-roll especially, but is also just super nice seeing the lovely Matt and Tom be silly and chat about the board games
Is Matt forgetting the hypnotic influence that wind turbines can have on horses? To a horse’s poor eyesight they look just like sexy, sultry, waving lady horses and by the time they’re close enough to see the truth their natural impulse to lick metal kicks in and it’s all over for them.
Its well known that the bases of wind turbines are just littered with dead bats who flew through the blades, and horses who got stuck licking the base of the turbine until they starved.
shoutout to The Time Warp of Dr. Brain (especially Gridlock and the Primordial Soup) along with the rest of the Dr. Brain series, Thinkin' Science: Zap and its electrical circuit puzzles, and so many parts of the Thinkin' Things collections especially that programmable Half Time marching band in the third one and the marble physics bits. oh also The Incredible Machine series
They really make me want to buy all three of the first games. I already bought earth borne rangers (EBR) thanks to Matt's review and probably would have bought arcs from Tom's review if i didn't know that i already likely won't be playing EBR because of the people i tend to play with. Now i want Daybreak as well.
Love this format, I've always found the podcast a bit hard to follow since I can't visualise the game. Having pictures even just recycled from reviews is great
During Arcs, I love the comment about playing a game over and over that you are bad at but have tons of fun because you feel like you learned something new each time. I find all my favorite games to be this way! Hopefully, I'll start winning at some point...
Gaming group with very mixed experience with games. Seven solo plays in, one complete campaign playthorugh, two other people have bought copies in the group. Masterpiece
My friends and I saw your show at PAX Unplugged and it was a great time! My fiancee bought a copy of earthborne rangers and I'm looking forward to trying it out!
I didn’t even watch the video yet, just immediately came in and gave the video a thumbs up because I wanted a TH-cam video podcast from SUSD for so long lol
Would you guys ever consider covering the three Great Western Trails? I think I got into the first one because of an old video from y'all, but picked up New Zealand this year and it's become my favourite game of all time. So wait -- why am I asking you guys to cover something I already love...?
i fear that daybreak is going to get increasingly depressing year by year as the actual powers of the world continue to not do anything about climate change.
@ yeah, that’s hard to do right now. don’t get me wrong, i loved this video and i want to play all these games, but that is a real though i had when i was thinking “should i get daybreak?”
I remember when back in they said we’d all die by year 20XX. I say 20XX because every time that year comes, we’re still alive. Whether or not it’s happening, it ain’t happening as fast as they ever say so don’t be discouraged.
@@fnord3125hey, I hear your and I think it’s valid that you feel this way. I also had this thought, but maybe it’s an interesting game to process and learn about climate change and what possibilities are out there. But it may also not be your type of game to enjoy right now, and that’s okay.
Literally just finished a game of EBR (my third campaign - going for the "bad" ending, lol). Super looking forward to delving into the arcology and using the new classes.
Love this format. I am not that interested in game podcasts because I need the visuals, but this is great! Hope you do more of these! Wish I’d known Matt was at Gen Con and looking for a game. My brother and I were there and would have made that happen! For future reference, there is a lot of open gaming in the surrounding hotels, particularly in the evenings.
For the card swap situation described in Slay the Spire, cards giving you orbs (for example) wouldn't be dead cards, since you're supposed to take the Prismatic Shard card for free and orbs can go on there.
Product of FFG (based in Minneapolis) being parted out by Asmodee after their heyday in the 2000's? Also, boardgame design doesn't pay like tech, the mid-west has cheaper living costs (I live in Winnipeg, about 500 miles north of Minne)
Shameless plug for my friend Adam Rehberg, 😅 who has over a dozen games published by Adam's Apple Games.... based in Hopkins, Minnesota! (A suburb of Minneapolis) Nearly ten years of great game design!! 😊
I'm so sad to hear that Matt because I would have been ECSTATIC to play a board game with you when I met you at GenCon! I figured you were busy! (I was the person you told to keep my pants on lol)
Dune Three-mperium, is what I would've gone for @ 42:10. Also I can't believe you went "They really Thimothé'd my Chalamet". *"DiCaprio pointing at TV meme"* - it's something I've been using for a while (even though I'm the only one who thinks it's hilarious ). It's so versatile too, you can use it for anyone! "Well, I'll tell you what, they really Benicio'd my Toro on that one"
I enjoy the fact you talked about ten games, but decided to make this a top six video. Obviously you did focus on the first six, but come on it's totally a top ten haha
I'm so happy that they came around on Dune Imperium. So many weak reviews say "why won't this deckbuilding/boardgame mix let me ignore the board so that I can Dominion my way to victory?"
Please keep doing these!! I want to listen to podcasts, but I don't feel like trying to juggle multiple platforms and crap. I don't even need video, just put the audio on here with a picture.
The Arcs section made me kind of sad because my partner and my group have been kind of put off of it after we tried it, but I'm still really excited about it. Hopefully they'll come around to giving it another try.
Little does Matt know, Tom bought special pants with extra large pockets specifically so he can carry ARCs in his back pocket. I believe they were from the pants and stuff right Tom?
"Imagine if Batman kissed Superman" wouldn't have been my first thought when playing Slay the Spire: The Board game, but the point still stands lol. Great fan fiction.
Andromeda's Edge is my GotY. Arcs just doesn't sound like a game I would like but my friend "pranked" me and sent me a copy following a BF sale. It shall remain in shrink until who knows when. I'm forward to my copy of Spectral to arrive next week.
Vale is great. Hardly any setup, quick to play, small set of rules, smallish box, good material, even unofficial solo modes...and of course...card combos. I often think...well 20min until x... Should i? Yeeees you should
I've been salivating over earthborne rangers since i Kickstarted the reprint + expansion this march. I bought a butt load of arkham lcg to tide me over but its not enough i need to chase deer around again
But, what happened to Compile? You mentioned it in the podcast version after Arcs, and I switched to the video when you mentioned you had a copy to show to Tom, but IT'S NOT HERE! 😢
I've got Dune Imperium Uprising and love it. Nothing else in this video jumps out at me, though. I have a friend who might like Earthborne Rangers. Otherwise, I'm more interested in exploring games that came out in the previous 20 years :)
im sure adding all this B-roll is a not-insignificant amount of work but as a longtime listener of the podcast, I really find the visual aids here to be massively worth it as a viewer - thanks for doing this!
I like this so much: relaxed discussion and video shots of the games and playing them.
Yeah I get very tired of the youtuber way of presenting this same kind of info. Just talk about the game like a normal person.
You guys have been HOLDING the mics on the podcast this entire time?
This was my biggest takeaway too
Woah, we have weirdly similar usernames
The other end isn't even plugged into anything.
this which EPISODE are you holding up these mics?!!
They spend all their money on games so can’t afford a mic stand. So sad 😢
It's so bloody late, I can't wait to go to sleep, let me just quickly check if there's something on TH-cam
hey! Anyone up late when they should be sleeping? What's on the tube?
TH-cam before bed is a terrible idea, unless you have something very specific you want to listen to. Too many times have I wondered where the last hour went because I clicked on a short.
My exact predicament, friend
53 minutes later...
eeeeeeeee
ooh I'm loving this Video Podcast [Patent Pending] format!

I love this format! Why didn’t anybody thought of this before!
Lovely presentation of the podcast. Snappy editing, great discussion, love the shots of the games during the convo. Hope to see more of these!
You guys HAVE to do an Arcs playthrough on this channel!
Space Lion Matt from TI4 playthrough haunts me to this day
@@SpackJarrow94"Watching, hidden in the nebula, the space lion stalks its prey."
Maybe ARCS is the definitive crossover with TI4 UNofficial podcasters Matt and Hunter from Space Cats Peace Turtles.

I feel blessed to be part of the Zoombinis generation 😄
Me too. This one is the best game of the video... maybe😅
Zoombinis made me the person I am today. Probably?
@rexsteward of course. I love puzzles and pizzas... quite sure that is the reason of Zoombinis😅
Let's goooooo finally TH-cam podcast!!!! Thank you, this makes listening to them so much more accessible

Wow! I'm so thrilled that you selected Eternal Decks. Thank you so much🦁

Not to mention the chronic affect on elderly spanish Romance nerds
Thank you guys for all your work last year. It's been a delight
First time listening to the podcast, holy shit you are so good at this. What a thoughtful and funny conversation. Conversation goals right here
I had to check it. Zoombinis was an educational pc game in the 90s. I didn't play this one but 90s edu games were fire
I 100% played Zoombinis in elementry school computer lab class back in the day! Never was enough time to get past the pizza making activity though...
It is on steam though🤣

Great video, love the vibe.
Love the Zoombinis shout out at 17:45
Always wanted to listen to the podcast and never did, this is great guys!!! I'll be watching all the episodes on here!
I'm at 2:28 and Tom hasn't mentioned Arcs yet. Tom, I'm worried, are you feeling okay?
Great energy. Great discussion. Love it

What a great video format! Like someone else has written, you should totally have a arcs playthrough. And that you dress upp for all the Fates 😁
Gaming group with very mixed experience with games. Seven solo plays in, one complete campaign playthorugh, two other people have bought copies in the group. Masterpiece
this new format will change the podcast world, amazing
A VIDEO PODCAST!? This is Monopoly levels of innovation!
I Love your youtube chanel & I love your podcast. This is the best of two worlds. WOW! *MINDBLOWN* 💥😍💕

I just finished watching one of your videos and then I saw “36 seconds ago” on this one.

You guys should do a video podcast, but with 100% cuts and edits, no mics, and maybe a script.
It should be revolutionary.
Zoombinis was incredible, your comment meant an awful lot to me
Wow it's almost like Digg Nation!?! Such a fun throw back that no one else has ever done.
