    What a beautiful beginning. You’re a total natural, and I can’t wait to hear all about your making and the projects & stories you choose to share with us. As for tech, I record on my iPad, which attaches to a tripod that has a ring light on the top - here in Scotland, trying to get enough light through the darker months can be a challenging thing! And then I upload to iMovie on my desktop, auto correct my audio and increase the volume to 400%, and then I drop in titles and images at the relevant places, before exporting to desktop and then uploading to TH-cam. I don’t generally add tags, but I do try and write quite substantial show notes and include links to other podcasters using the @ symbol with the name of their channel. And then I try and respond to comments as best I can. And I also promote on Instagram and FB. And that’s it! I think you can get much more creative tech-wise than I have. But for my own purposes, it works. I want folk to feel like we’re enjoying a visit with one another. And that doesn’t really require a lot of bells and whistles. Although I would really like to record an intro at some point. But I’ve been saying that for the past year and I’ve not done it yet!

      Thanks for all your help and encouragement, Amy! What you've described as your process is about as far as I want to go into the tech side of things: insert a few images as needed, maybe a little text within the video itself, and (eventually) a catchy opener. I wouldn't have thought to check the volume, so thanks for that tip especially! We'll see how the next one goes! :)

    Your video was a suggestion on TH-cam and the book on Episode 5 sent me rushing over and am starting with Episode 1. I am an older English teacher, knitter, and former Army brat. I plan to teach internationally as soon as I get my daughter settled into her second year of college. I have recently converted from being a news-junkie to a knitting podcast junkie and have found myself happier and less stressed.

    Thank you for a great first podcast. I am recovering from an accident at work- to my dominant hand. I can relate so much to your frustration. It took five months for W/C to approve the surgery I needed. Five months of no knitting 😢. I am currently in a full arm cast and still can not knit. W/C denied an ice machine post op and I am already dreading the next few months when I need but am denied physical therapy.
    Podcasts have kept me sane!

    It's funny - as much as I enjoy learning new skills and challenges, I'm to a point where I need to always have at least one project that's just "mindless" when I really need to relax or am trying to focus on something else. Someday I may feel as comfortable with cables as you are!

    • @knitphen7232
      @knitphen7232 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it's interesting. I wouldn't call cables mindless, but they aren't taxing either, at least not anymore. I mean, I could certainly follow a tv show and have a little wine while knitting St Brigid...and I only made a few mistakes..... 🙄

Looking forward to your videos and think that you adding did bits of what's going on in NY - like Carmen or craft related- would be interesting. Hey Stephen! I too am a knitter, but have not attempted anything as elaborate as you!! Just rectangles, as you called it! (Great explanation BTW) The only non-rectangular item I have made was a stocking for my nephew, (Connie's son) Luke. Are you familiar with the Steiner stocking? I guess Aunt Anne started it with our parents generation, and we have continued with the next two generations. (Which I think is so super cool!!) I wish I knew how to attach a pic, and I would show you.
    I can't wait to see more videos! ❤️🤗

    Great 1st video! I’m new to your channel and also a new subscriber. I look forward to watching more of your episodes.
    I enjoyed learning how you started knitting… We have a somewhat similar backstory on how we started knitting….. First I should start by saying I 1st became interested in knitting when I was a child (I’m in my 50s currently), but no one in my family knew how to knit or anyone else that I knew at the time. Michaels, Joanne’s, etc. weren’t around back then and we didn’t have any independent yarn stores near us back then. Nor was TH-cam a resource as a way to learn how to knit. So long story short, knitting took a backseat and I forgot about my childhood interest in learning to knit until 2014. In knit 2014, I had been given the challenge by a friend to learn something new in 2023 as a New Year’s resolution. After careful consideration I chose to learn to knit. I wasn’t sure I would be able to knit due to an injury I sustained during a routine blood draw that didn’t go away right away and lingered for a very lengthy time. I was eventually diagnosed with complex regional pain syndrome, which effected my right elbow, through my forearm and into my right hand and fingers with an array of neurological symptoms. Suddenly I wasn’t able to do normal daily tasks I use to take for granted. Things slowly got better to where I was able to engage in more activities to the point I could even consider knitting. So I slowly took up knitting and found that by knitting it helped with dexterity, being able to use my hand more and have more range of motion. Knitting became a form of physical therapy if you will. I’m still not the fastest knitter by any means due to having crps and can’t knit for extended periods of time, but I keep at it slowly. With the exception of a 2 year hiatus due to a flare up of CRPS, I’ve been slowly able to learn new knitting skills. I love the creative process of knitting and learning new techniques and skills along the way. I also find knitting to be a way to relieve stress and also relax. I enjoy seeing the finished projects I’ve completed and also making gifts for others. I never thought I’d fall this in love with knitting. I am hoping to make my 1st sweater next year.
    Btw, I like the views from your apartment. Additionally, you are the 2nd person who has referenced he same exact book by T. H. White this year. I will have to add it to my reading wishlist.

    • @lisavitale8410
      @lisavitale8410 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooops, typo! I meant to write that I was tasked to learn something new in 2014, not 2023.

      I was wondering about that. :)

    • @knitphen7232

      That's a remarkable story! You know, my grandmother has knit and crocheted for her entire life, but in the past year joint pain has stopped her. I often wonder at knitting's ability to heal and hurt. Naturally I want to believe that it's physically good for us, although all things in excess can cause harm, but clearly everyone needs to listen to their own body and assess their physical response to any action. She began to experience it as a source of pain, and therefore lost the joy she experienced from it (she is, however, an inherently optimistic and intellectually curious person so she found other ways to occupy her time, which is good). So, for you and me it was healing, for her it hurt. So interesting...
      Anyhow, I hope it continues to be a source of healing for you and that your crps ceases to flare up and cause trouble. You should definitely start that sweater -- you'll love the experience of making it and wearing it!
